About Dagrinsonis

My name is Donna and I own a thriving massage therapy practice in the Beachwood, Ohio area and we recently got rid of our old website and paid to have a new site designed for us. We went from using a free sitebuilder to a full-blown Wordpress website that now has a full blog. It is the blog part that got me to seek out Wealthy Affiliate. I have always known that one can make a good income from blogging and now that I finally have my own blog, I want to immediately start the learning process so that I can make it successful from the very start and ultimately launch some additional blogs.

The blog as it stands right now has several different "categories" and those are the topics that I will be focusing on. One of my main topics will be for my prenatal clients and new moms. Another topic deals with health and exercise. Each topic within the blog relates directly to something with regard to our business model. I cater to high-end clients and I am planning on plugging them into the blog. We do sports massage and because my daughters are Health Coaches with Herbalife, we help clients with sports nutrition. My daughters actually head up the Herbalife side of things so they help our clients with weight loss and health-related concerns which is the reason we have a whole section for health and exercise. We will be showcasing the free workouts at the huge nutrition club on the west side of town and the free workouts on the east side of town but I can also recommend and review a lot of sports and exercise related products. About 50% of our business is couples massage so we have a whole section that will focus on things for couples and topics that will interest them. There is also another section that is not showing right now because I have to write some topics for it but it is called ALL THINGS CLEVELAND and this section will focus on highlighting great things to do in Cleveland: it will give info and links to area restaurants, attractions, hotels, and malls, etc. This section is one that I am hoping I will be able to grow enough so that we will get a lot of general readers prior the upcoming Republican National Convention coming to Cleveland in one year. I am looking to be able to target some unique products and affiliate products through that part of the blog. That section will also give exposure for our massage therapy practice.

My ultimate goal is to get this blog fully functional and making money then venture out to create additional blogs. My biggest focus will be in monetizing the blog with the Amazon Affiliate program and some affiliate products that are appropriate for my audience as I learn to implement affiliate products. I also need to quickly increase my traffic and then consistently get great traffic because I want to be eligible to participate in the Vitamix affiliate program but they have certain new requirements and right now I do not qualify. I have owned a Vitamix juicer for about 15 years and I have referred a LOT of people to them over the years but they changed their requirements so now I must “qualify” to be a part of their program. For now, I know I can use the Amazon affiliate program because Amazon sells Vitamix products.

Anyway I am ready to learn. I love to write. I have a lot to say as you can see. All the writing on my website I did. Over 90% of our massage therapy business comes through my website. The hardest part I believe will be in trying to stay committed to writing and blogging as I know that this is not about a get rich quick type deal. Successful bloggers stick with it. So I need to see SOME success right away so that will help to keep the fire burning….
Dagrinsonis's Goals 3
Money Goals
Right now I would be happy earning an extra $2000 per month to supplement my massage therapy practice income.

I would be ecstatic earning $5000 per month or more because then I could afford to travel and live my life the way I imagined living it. All my children are grown and I walked away from corporate America over 4 years ago to enter the healthcare field as a massage therapist. After a year of working for high-end spas, a wellness company and chiropractic clinics I opened my own practice. So I have already started on a new path where I do not answer to a boss and I create my own hours. A higher income will allow me to be able to travel to tropical islands and resorts with my therapists and experience massage in other places so we can bring techniques back to our own clients.

I am willing to invest 5-15 hours per week to building this additional income.

Hi Kyle. I am a little annoyed. I got a bunch of "lockdown events" notifications in my email. I have not had a Wordpress site for several years and this is the first time I have had this happen.

Other than that I made some progress today and will go through the videos tomorrow.

Sorry, what do you mean by lockdown events? Please clarify and I will help you out here. :)

Hi Kyle. I apologize for the long note.

I found out the lockdown events were triggered by one of the security plugins connected to my new blog. I tried to private message you but it takes you thru a whole loop designed to have me search for my answer.

I need a little guidance about how to approach my training. I am currently going thru the training module by module, however, I already have a multi-subject blog that is connected to my business. It was created for me. I am learning to use it. I did all the writing for my site and blog but the functionality I requested and the web developer made it happen. I have already started writing blog posts and I have a ton of other subjects within the blog to write on and those subjects can be monetized with amazon affiliate products. I am already signed up with Amazon and ready to go. One of my goals is to start seeing some significant income before the end of November. The reason for this is I do not want to get discouraged and be tempted to jump onto some other project. I have a ton of ideas all the time and the only thing that keeps me focused is me actually making some income from a current venture. That is what happened with my massage practice. The first year I charged only $35 -$40 for an hour massage and my income was not that great that first year but it was steady. Now I command between $70-90 for an hour and up to $150 for a 90 minute session and I have a steady influx of clients. The initial income kept my interest.

So my question is if you were in my position with a new blog you just created that needs to be monetized but you also have another domain you could turn into a blog and monetize it - would you use the training to build out the new domain (just purchased) or work with the new blog relating to your business or would you do both? Because I am capable of doing both. My business blog is located at www.ohiosbestmassage.com and it has multiple sections relating directly to my massage practice. Our practice deals with massage, health, prenatal, sports massage, and since we are in Cleveland and the Republican National Convention will be here in less than a year, I have a whole blog section called ALL THINGS CLEVELAND where I will highlight things people will want to know about when they visit here. I will use that section to showcase the massage practice but I can also monetize it with affiliate links for luggage and hotels.com and all kinds of things relating to travel.

I have a ton of ideas for blogs but I just came up with one relating to woman caves because I wanted to have a blog where I could link out to high-end products like electronics and furniture. Plus I am a mom who raised 4 kids pretty much alone and I worked a high-stress career and went to school twice and I want to advocate for women creating a true space in their home for themselves. A woman cave. Amazon has a lot of this type stuff that I could recommend and I just purchased the domain today.

Anyway, I obviously need help clearing away the noise and focusing on a certain path and since you are an expert I thought I would reach out to you now before I got overwhelmed trying to FIGURE IT OUT lol.

You could definitely do both Donna, you could use the local marketing training here at WA to further get your massage website indexed into local searches. There are MANY awesome live classes on this that will help you out with your local marketing campaigns:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/webinar

Do a search there for "local" and you will get lots of results. Jay, whom does the live classes, runs a very successful local marketing business and is an absolute expert in the area.

But you can also start something new as well. It will be a fun project, you just need to define your niche and keep your website niche specific. ;)

Here to help you every step of the way and if you need anything else going forward let me know.

And yes, you don't need security plugins here at WA, we handle all of this from our end. ;)

Kyle. How do I transfer my 2 juicing domains from Godaddy and Homestead over to WA? I want to play with those for training purposes.
Reply
Kyle Premium
You will need to update the nameserver settings to that of WA.

ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

Upon updating these, you should be able to build your website within 12 hours, often times far quicker (within 10 minutes or so typically). These are also known as DNS settings. :)

Hope this helps you out here Donna!

Hi Kyle.

How are you? Enjoying the training. I went ahead and wrote my first post for my juice blog. Please let me know what you think. http://juicingsecretsforlife.com.

I added the SIMPLE SHARE BUTTONS ADDER plugin. There is no SAVE button so I clicked the save button that is hovering on the right side of the screen and none of my changes take. I am trying to add the twitter, facebook, linkedin, pinterest, and email buttons to show up underneath each regular post. I like the default icons. Can you help me with this and let me know why it was not working for me?

So far so good Donna. I do have a few suggestions:

(1) Smaller paragraphs. It can be very difficult to read large blocks of content, in particular with the fact that we are living in a 140 character world.

White space within your content (smaller paragraphs) will lead to much better readability and more people will read your content as a result.

(2) I recommend that you use more visuals within your content. Most people are visual by nature and when you create content, you should have associated images that reflect what you are talking about.

This will lead to more engagement, a higher reader rate, and as a result, more conversions.

Besides that you are off and running and heading in the right direction here. Now it is just a matter of creating more content and continuing through the training.

Hi Kyle. Quick question: What parts of the training will help me deal with the visual parts of the theme I chose? Right now I have no pictures in the background or anything and I know my theme displayed a lot of visual stuff. So not sure what to do. I know how to add pictures on the pages and in posts. I am talking specifically about the theme-based background and/or banner picture area.

This is going to be covered as you move through the training, no one lesson specifically but it is all going to be covered.

There are many ways in which you can find and add images to your website. I have outlined this within a video walk-through that I created on images. This is very thorough and will give you a lot of great ideas as to how you can find and incorporate images on your website. Also, do know that if you are an affiliate of Amazon you can use any of the images (product) from their website on your website, which opens you up to an image bank of MILLIONS of images.
Reply

Yes. I am signed up with Amazon. I will get to learning about images. Is there anything you guys have not covered?

We cover everything you need to know and if there ever are any "gaps" they are covered within the weekly live classes that you can partake in (and you can watch the 100's of hours of past classes). :)

Hi Kyle. I hope I am not bothering you too much. I keep asking slightly advanced questions because I am both building my new juicing site from scratch but also dealing with my already built site/blog. I feel so blessed to have found WA. It has solved a HUGE challenge for me.

One of my tasks today is to get through and complete 2-3 more lessons in the certification course lineup. However, I had a question in the interim:

I was wondering what is the best way to track activity on my blog so I can see what people are clicking on and their behavior so I can immediately start adjusting what I am doing in terms of the types of links I am including and where on the page. I want to be able to determine what is converting and why.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Not bothering me at all, that is how we learn by asking questions. ;)

The best way to track your website activity is through using Google Analytics. It is free and here is some training on how to add this to your website: This will give you some insights into your traffic. As for conversion tracking, this will be based on the affiliate programs and the type of link tracking they offer, some will offer you quality tracking tools whereas some won't. It all depends.

Whew! I am enjoying Level 2 certification training. I am also skimming through my Wordpress book as a reference.

I just did something really SCARY. Thanks to your teaching on how to manipulate the menu items and order of the menu items I was able to adjust the menu on the website I paid to have built. I never even realized the items were not in the right order! I was literally holding my breath as I moved the menu items around because I did not want to screw up my site!

Anyway, I figured out by misstake how to do the submenu items. I have created the entire structure of my site. Can you take a quick look and let me know what you think? I know it is a lot of pages, but this juicing site is actually my baby. I have been sitting on this site for 4 years and because I did not have anything like Wealthy Affiliate I got discouraged in trying to create it.

The only thing I need help with now is figuring out how to create categories underneath my BLOG page. I want the main blog page to be a static/blog roll and then I have categories I want to create for the blog. Can you assist me with that part?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Wow, sounds like you are making some really good progress and learning lots Donna. I would be more than happy to have a look at your website. Share your website URL with me and I will definitely check it out. :)
Reply
Kyle Premium
Off to a really good start, I like the theme choice and the initial framework.

I do have a few suggestions here:

(1) I would always suggest making your homepage a blog roll versus being a static page. The reason for this is that when you add a new post to your website, it will automatically show a snippet of this on your homepage (within your blog roll).

Not only does this make your website appear to be much more active and interesting to a visitor, it will also lead Google to quicker index your pages and also rank your content higher as your website will always appear fresh.

(2) Do not build out your menus before you create the content. Build them out as you are creating the content.

(3) Target keywords within every page or post.

Each page or post on your website should have a keyword focal point. Keywords are what lead to rankings and what lead to traffic. So when you are looking to come up with an idea for a new post, do some keyword research and find a phrase that is related to your niche.

As you build out your content and start getting rankings under these terms, you will see your traffic (and revenue) cumulatively grow. Just know that not every page will rank, but over time a good percentage will. The game of numbers!

Definitely heading in the right direction here though Donna, nicely done!

Ok excellent points. Thanks for taking a look at it. I have some serious work ahead of me.

Question: On the blog roll page, is there a way to make one post stay at the top of the blog roll? Or is it better to just have the home page be a blog roll with no introductory paragraph or introductory post and nothing else special about that page?
Reply
dagrinsonis Premium
So the HOME page controls how many times Google ranks a website rather than the other pages (when it is updated or things are added)? Because I have been wondering about this. With my www.ohiosbestmassage.com site which also now has a blog, every time I would spend a lot of time updating the HOME page all of a sudden I would have my phone ringing off the hook the same week I did it.
Reply
Kyle Premium
For a local marketing website (like yours), you might want a static homepage as you are not going to be adding new content all that regularly.

For a niche website, you will want a blog roll to be your homepage as you will be regularly adding content and that will make your website appear to be very active to Google which is a good thing for rankings.

Do I need to "block" the search engines from crawling my site while I build it since it is so large? I do not want to take down the various pages I organized already. A lot of work.

If I DO need to block the search engines is there a training somewhere on this? I don't want my site getting penalized.
Reply
Kyle Premium
No, you never want to block search engines from visiting your website. If you do, your site will never rank. I have never, ever blocked my website from being ranked in the search engines, that is counterintuitive and there is no reason for it.

Hi Kyle

I tried asking this question in the community but did not get responses so I am sending to you also because I am working on an important page on my juicing site:

I have a question about keyword use within a page's content:

I understand that when you pick your keywords that you are to use the keyword in the title and in the first paragraph on the page so that your page can be properly indexed by Google for that keyword.

However, what if you use another good keyword later on in your text? Does this also help your rankings in Google or nah? Because I am working on one of my pages right now and I just noticed in Jaaxy that one of my subtopics I will be talking about is also a good keyword.

Donna

A natural byproduct of creating content is that ALL of your content has the potential of getting ranked. You don't want to focus on targeting many different keywords within the same post, but as you build out more and more posts on your website you will likely get ranked under keywords you never "planned" on.

It is one of those cool side effects. :)
Reply
dagrinsonis Premium
Ok, cool. That was what I was wondering about. I did not plan on it being that way; I just discovered that one of my subtopics was also a keyword when I got back up on Jaaxy this morning so I just wanted to understand the dynamics. Thanks Professor Kyle. You are the greatest!
Reply
dagrinsonis Premium
Ok. I was not actually TRYING to put extra keywords in my page, but discovered that another keyword was one of my subtopics on the page.

Kyle: I am trying to finish my first Vitamix review of the Vitamix 750, which is my favorite of all the Vitamix blenders. One of the folks online who does reviews had included a YOUTUBE video on her website and I would like to do that as well. Can you check it out to see if you can figure out if this is Vitamix's video or this website owner's video? The website is: http://blenderinsider.com/vitamix-750/ and it appears after the subtopic POWER. Can I grab any video that is on Youtube or if it belongs to Vitamix off Youtube? I am trying to navigate all this stuff and I realize this is an advanced question, but I like the idea of having a video until I am able to produce my own.

Lastly, I just calculated and realized that my original Vitamix whole food machine is now 18 years old! Is this something that I should highlight on my review pages? I don't know if people will care or not whether I have owned a vitamix for almost 20 years and the thing is still going. If it does matter, then, if you were me, how would you highlight this fact on the review posts and pages? Should I put a picture of myself with my old machine on the pages or on a separate Vitamix page? Just not sure what to do. Donna

You can put any Youtube video you like on your website, that is completely up to you as you can embed any content from Youtube on your website through the embed feature.

Here is some training on how to do this: Avoid overuse of Youtube videos on your website. Unless it truly adds value to the current content or helps explain something in further detail avoid using Youtube videos on your website.

They can lead to traffic leak (as people will go off and watch Youtube videos) and they can also detract from the quality content on your page. They also can hurt rankings in Google if your site is littered with Youtube videos, so just be careful.
Reply
dagrinsonis Premium
Oh ok. I wondered about that part. I will make a note of that.

I am almost finished with my very first review. My goal is to publish it today sometime. A little scary. I am sticking to 5 text links or less.
Reply
dagrinsonis Premium
Kyle,

1) I cannot figure out how to add tab spaces on my page.

2) I also cannot figure out how to make some content single spaced. I typed both in the white search box and got on Google and could not find an easy explanation for these.

Here is the page I am working on: http://juicingsecretsforlife.com/vitamix

The part I am trying to tab is that list at the beginning with the specs on this juicer. I also want that to be single-spaced.

I realize I have a LOT more work to do. I have to add my links. I have to add a few photos. I may add a picture of me at the top with my original Vitamix. I have to change the page that appears in the url as I renamed this page. This is the only review where I will get more personal in the beginning talking about my original Vitamix because the Vitamix 750 is my FAVORITE of all the Vitamix juicers. My other reviews will be more cut and dried.
Reply
Kyle Premium
I see you have added some spacing to your content. If you hold down SHIFT + ENTER you can add single spacing whereas just ENTER will create a whole new space.

I think you are off to a good start with your website and I do like the headline you have for it.

I love how your personality comes out in your content and this is something that you can do within ANY content, whether or not you have personally used it, you always have a personal opinion about something and that should reflect in your content. It makes it that much more readable.

I am having a really HARD TIME with 2 things:

1) I cannot get the text link thing to work in Wordpress. I want to be able to highlight a word or two and have that link to my product on Amazon. I copied the code from Amazon and when I LINKED it to the highlighted text and tested it - it said NO PAGE FOUND.

2) I cannot figure out how to link a plain photo that I inserted in the page to a product on Amazon.

The way that you are doing it on the video is not working for me in real life.

Hi Kyle. I was messing around with the keyword research on my juicing site and came across a CRAZY low hanging fruit keyword:
TOP 10 SMOOTHIE RECIPES - 3640/619/50 QSR!

I found it first by using the alphabet soup technique and then searching in Jaaxy.

So I can target this right since it has a QSR of less than 100?

Thanks Simon. I am getting ready to transfer over my 2 domains relating to juicing. I think I will play with those for learning purposes. I have my main website which has a multi-category blog so once I get into the monetizing portion I will start playing with that blog. You can see it at: www.ohiosbestmassage.com. I have started doing some blog posts but I have a ton more to write. I keep a Word document with all my post ideas but I took a little time away from it to get going with WA and to finally get the website live. The site above is my site relating to my massage practice and it HAS to have multiple categories so I will have to navigate how to make a multi-category blog work. In the meantime, I will focus my learning here at WA on building a blog focused on one topic or niche.

Anyway, I appreciate you reaching out to me Simon. I was overwhelmed but now I am starting to feel a little bit more focused in what I want to accomplish on here.

Also, when I do a blog post does the entire community see it or only those who type in particular tags? I also had issues with my blog post getting errors all thru it when I hit PUBLISH and not sure why.

Hi Simon

Do you have blogs where you promote Amazon.com products? If so, what I am wondering is how you incorporate the links into your blog posts? I am getting ready to post my butt off so I want to know some of the best ways to link out to Amazon. The only thing I have tried thus far is creating a little Amazon box that has multiple products in it so people can pick which product they want to click on to get to Amazon.
