My page speed insight scores are low and I'd really like to improve upon these performance issues starting with converting my images from JPEG to webp, as recommended by page s

Hey Chris,

WP Rocket & Imagify are now blacklisted at WA.

So, you can convert to WebP externally first, using the tool that Jovo has provided, and then upload to your media library.

The only other image optimizer plugin you can try is Smush, which seems to work just fine with WA Hosting (although it will depend on how many images you need to optimize, as there are limits with the free version of Smush).

Partha

Thanks for the info! I had no idea it was black listed here at WA so that’s good to know. I will try out those methods. Thanks again

I agree with Partha, he also recommended Smush to me.

However, keep in mind that Smush (at least the free version) cannot optimize WebP images, so that's an issue.

Good day, Partha. How did you discover Imagify and WP Rocket cannot be installed through WA?

Hey Matt,

I have them both on all my websites, mostly hosted externally.

Once I "hit" a certain level of traffic I installed them both on one of my WA hosted sites, everything ran fine for a year or so, and then I started to experience issues with speed.

That website was at a very high traffic level by then anyway, so I transferred it to my main host.

But, ever since the WA "updates" to what plugins are and aren't allowed (Kyle did eventually blog about this, can't remember the title of the blog post though, LOL), other members have noted that their WP Rocket "stopped working" or they were unable to do any updates on them.

As for Imagify, I have a number of accounts, and over the years I have added it to other WA members sites just to "help them out" without them having to pay for it.

Tried it on someone's website around 2 months ago and nothing, so we came to the conclusion that as Imagify has fantatsic optimization and caching abilities it must be one of the plugins that can cause a potential conflict with WA caching and hosting abilities, and is therefore blacklisted.

Partha

Thank you for the explanation, Partha. I appreciate the information. I will try the offline method with Jovo and look into Smush. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
-Matt

Unfortunately, I believe the Imagify plugin is blacklisted here on WA hosting, although I heard great things about it myself.

Please let me know if converting to WebP boosts your speed Chris, that'll be helpful.

Thank you! I’ll let you you 🙏🏻

So far I converted just one of my images to webp and it boosted my score by 30%!

That's great Chris.

What you converted was a featured image, right?

Yes, so far they have been featured images and a few images on my homepage. Next, I'm going to work on reducing unused Javascript

Sounds great.

Let me know how that goes. 😁

Thank you!

I'd like to change my website's theme but I want to back up my site first. Whats the best way to do this? Thanks!

Yeah, as Jeff states, contact site support.

To change your theme, here is what to do.

You may go to Appearance > Themes and add new.

Input what you are looking for, install and activate.

Your content will be left intact; you may lose out on CSS styles and social media icons if, however, with a bit of tweaking, you are done.

We always recommend leaving a backup theme; you may do with the Twenty TwentyThree.

I hope this helps

Ok, just did. Thanks Jeff!
