Why I run a "mini" newsletter (and how it works with Medium)
In this article, I discussed how I use my 2-step system:
Step 1 - Write articles on Medium
Step 2 - Send out a daily newsletter
Your articles send traffic to your newsletter.
Your newsletter sends people to your Medium articles (which gives you more views and reads, and therefore more earnings).
Affiliate marketing can be used in either one.
But this time I want to explain why I send out a "mini" newsletter.
Do you have a newsletter?
First, if you don't have a newsletter, I would recommend that you start one.
Why?
That's where your true fans are. These people took the time to sign up to hear from you, and they're more likely to trust you and want to hear from you.
Do you have a newsletter/email that you send out? If not, why not? I'm just curious!
Why I started a "mini" newsletter
I struggled with my newsletter for a long time.
When I was heavily promoting WA, I half-heartedly sent out emails, but I wasn't consistent enough with them.
Eventually, I just let that list die off.
Then I thought it would be a great idea to do the story-based emails, but I realized a problem:
I suck at telling stories!
I started paying attention to these short emails I was getting from a couple of marketers, and I loved them! They just have a couple of links in them and some of those links are curated.
I thought, "I could do that!"
And then my Mini Newsletter was born. I call it a mini newsletter because it's very basic. It has 2-5 links in it. And I usually add a P.S. with a promotion to something. Here's a sample of what it looks like:
I love this style of newsletter because:
- It's easy to set up
- It's easy to manage (I can get it out during my first cup of coffee in the morning)
- I can send it daily with no issues
- People enjoy it because it doesn't take a lot of time to read
The average open rate and click-through rates are pretty good too:
(Once I clean my list again, this will improve.)
Final Thoughts
I just wanted to share this because I don't know how many people know that this is an option.
I struggled with starting a newsletter, being consistent with it, and growing my email list. Now everything works together and it's so much easier to manage.
You have to choose whatever works for you and your niche, but I wanted to show you that there are simpler ways to do things. (I'm lazy and I like it when things are simple! lol)
Hope this helps someone! Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Christina, that is a great idea and a necessity to have. I would like to create a newsletter chain for three to five years in advance and send them out weekly on autopilot via Thrivecart, Mailchimp or similar platforms.
How can I quickly create a complete chain with short evergreen emails? I don't have the time to jump around to different microtasks daily or weekly to write it manually on the fly.
I have heard of this lady who provides weekly emails to build such a chain for $9 per month. She also provides other benefits, so I will consider joining. She initially sends you five or more to start with.
I don't know anything about that. I haven't heard of an email chain except for those ones we used to get back in the day... "send this email to 10 people or else you'll be cursed forever!" lol
No, I mean... You get businesses, freelancers, and subscriptions from digital product sellers that provide you with an entire email newsletter chain for the next few years so you can just use and edit the template tailor-made to your audience. Set it on auto-pilot in Mailchimp or a similar app and let it send out the emails weekly, monthly, or whenever.
I didn't really know that this was an option Christina, but then again I have never looked into it!
We must all do what works best for us after all, but I will certainly investigate this strategy further!
Appreciate the share my friend and enjoy the rest of your week! :-)
I didn't know it was an option either until I saw come through my inbox. And that's why I wanted to share it here.
Great idea, Christina! This will really help me with my new website. I need to start a mini-newsletter for it.
I'm a Medium member but haven't taken advantage of posting on it yet. This gives me more confidence to try that, too.

Glad I can help. Let me know if you have any questions along the way with either starting your mini newsletter or with Medium.

I like your suggestion of hooking your newsletter into "Medium." Just trying to figure out what that's all about, and can see that you have found a way to help with your newsletter. Wish there were more hours in my day...trying to write a memoir, and it's eating up lots of time. Perhaps I could figure out a way to turn topics from that project into a newsletter. Aha! A new idea! Thanks -- will consider that.
Writing a memoir sounds like a big deal! Good for you! And yes, there are so many hours in a day. Your memoir is probably most important right now.
