6 Medium Tips To Get You Traffic and Earnings
There has been some good discussion regarding Medium lately, and I wanted to share with you some of my tips if you're interested in writing there.
I've been able to use Medium to:
- Earn $500+ per month with their Partner Program
- Send traffic to my newsletter list
- Refer people to Wealthy Affiliate
I also created a Medium ebook that went live last week, and I've been able to make over $300 so far. All thanks to the platform and what I've learned there!
Medium has over 100 million active users per month, so it's a fantastic place to grab some traffic!
Here's an image I created for my ebook to help you understand how I use Medium (and how I recommend it be used):
I call it a 2-step system, which includes:
- Step 1: Write on Medium
- Step 2: Send out a newsletter
You can send traffic to your newsletter through Medium. And your newsletter can promote your Medium articles.
Affiliate marketing is sprinkled into both your Medium articles and your newsletter.
Here are some tips to help get you started:
1. Make sure to join their Partner Program. When people read and respond to your articles, you'll get paid! For instance, here's an article I posted recently. You get paid based on the number of reads, views, claps (claps are similar to likes), and comments.
2. Consistency matters. This is something that we're taught here at WA too. You have to put out content consistently. The Medium algorithm loves it and will put you in front of more people more often.
3. Format your articles so they're easy to read. Again, Kyle teaches us this in the training here at WA. You want to use plenty of subheaders, bullet points, and numbered lists. I also use a lot of screenshots and images to break up my text.
4. Engage with others. I wrote about this in this blog post, but you want to engage with others. Medium is a social media platform as much as it is a writing platform. Help other people grow, and they'll help you grow too! (This is a pretty standard life lesson, right?)
5. Be sure to provide value, then add your call-to-action. Again, this is a lesson we have learned here at WA. When you're writing on Medium, it's no different than writing on your website. You want to help people out and provide value, then you can add your call-to-action (link to your newsletter, affiliate product, etc.). This is how you get people to trust you.
6. You can use SEO (but you don't have to). Since Medium already has a large amount of followers, you don't need to use SEO. (Instead, you would use tags on your articles so people can find it easier.) But you can use SEO for an extra boost.
I just wanted to be clear. I don't make any money if you join Medium. I just really like it! I think it's an awesome site to grow and build your affiliate business.
I want to share because it's the first place I've been able to grow consistently, and I really think it would help a lot of people here.

I write a little on my website, but my main blogging is done on Medium. I'm not too worried about it. I can always pivot if something happens there. And to be honest, something could happen with our websites too.

Thanks for sharing this info about your experience with Medium and congrats on your success there.
I have a couple of questions:
1) When I used it a few years back, there was a problem with people copying other people's articles. Have you seen anything to do with that?
2) I noticed that you're a Friend of Medium, which is a higher level membership. Do you think that influences how successful a person can be?

Hey Stella!
1. Sometimes I see people copy other people's profiles and try to scam people (they get thrown off the platform pretty quickly), but I haven't seen anyone complain about someone copying their work.
2. There is a lot of discussion about whether the Friends of Medium account helps with earnings. Some people say yes and some say no. I think the jury is still out on that one. I personally think it helps, but I don't have any proof to back it up.
