Shortly after I post an article I've been sometimes showing up on the third or fourth page of Google. Then I'll search a few days later and I'm not there anymore. Is this becau
You have to wait for Google to rank your posts on their 'rightful' place.
The first results you will see, shortly after having published your post, will always change over time so you should wait before checking your rankings not to be disappointed. Fluctuations are common and will happen over time.
If you have done a correct keyword research, used a keyword with low competition, used all SEO skills and shared your post on social media you did everything right to rank high.
Sadly, it doesn't always work that way. I had the same experience where I thought I had THE perfect keyword and that post has never been ranked at all ...
Google works in its own strange ways sometimes and I hope for you your post will rank back int the first pages but you never now...
Have you used to Google Fetch tool to index your post faster?
Build up your site more. Google is mysterious, but it will go up and down. We all hope it will move up. Keep going
Is there a rule of thumb quantification of some sort for having a site that is "built up"? I am a new website owner, still going through the WA training, and I realize I need to keep steadily working on adding content. I have 5-6 posts on my site currently. This question caught my attention because I found one of my articles ranked on page 4, and then later I could not find it. And an article I just published a few days ago, yesterday I found on page 7.

I see that if I update my wordpress theme I will lose any customizations I made to the code so I do not want to do that. Wordpress suggests that I create a child theme by makin
Normally, I do not make customizations to the php code. I try to pick a theme that has all I want. When I do make a change to php, I save a copy of the changes in a text file somewhere. What type of customizations have you made?
I have changed some text color, text sizes and removed spacing after paragraphs so that i can customize that more. I also added google analytics code. It's not too much customizing so I could just save it all in a text file and go in and change it again. I was just wondering if maybe there was a better way.
I am a little confused. Did you go behind the scenes (the Editor) and edited the .php code? Otherwise updating themes do not usually change the text color or text sizes. I change themes all the time. Those types of customizations stay.
Yes, the free version of my theme does not allow many customizing so I go into the editor and change it in the .php
I do not use child theme so updating is not a problem. You want to have it modified then you will have to make a child theme. The way you are doing now is not the best, you cannot keep the theme as it is indefinitely, it must be updated.
Yes, I didn't realize that the theme would update so often. I am going to look into making a child theme otherwise I will try to cut down on my customizing. Would you say that I should definitely keep up with the updates to my theme or can I keep it the way it is and not update it?
You have to update, there is no other way. Hackers use old versions to break into system, I have read about it in a blog here.
I have not used child theme, Marion has training about it. The idea seems to be that you do changes in it and this remains; updates are added without affecting what you have modified.
