hantaah,

Got an email that you replied to me, but the link showed that the blog doesn't exist!

Sometimes when you post a blog and then delete it, then it is gone and you can't find it because it does not exist anymore. I think that is the cause of it.

Hello to all my fellow WA's!

I have put more material (and corrections) into my Web site and have added Posts. Also, Google Ads accepted me and I have t

We're talking about http://www.judaicaartcrafts.com

Thank you.

Thanks to all you great WA's I have changed the photo sizes in the posts, and changed the Feature Image on my Site - it was quite difficult to find a relevant picture of the size recommended for the Theme, i.e. 940 x 200 pixels, so I adapted something close to that to 940 x 300 pixels.
My question is - does this look better now? I have been searching for a way to write a Caption under it, to explain that this is a Medieval Sephardic Synagogue interior - but there doesn't seem to be a simple way to add a Caption!! - Anybody have any ideas?

You can add a caption by opening the photograph in a photo editing program (Photoshop is one) and using the text tool and typing it in. Or, you could go to fiverr.com and pay a graphic designer $5 to do it for you.

BTW - how do categories work with blog posts, i.e. how can you subdivide posts by caegory?

Categories allow you to divide your content in to related areas. If i do a post on chartfords i dont put it into karatbars. It also keeps it good when someone goes directly to my category search and they chose the category, they then see all the posts i have for that category and none of the others.

You can setup your permalinks to show the category however thats not really necessary, if you put on your widgets sidebar the categories then people can click that and see what is all in there for that specific category.

All is well Jenn - I had to Approve the new Comment on the WP Dashboard before it could appear on the site publicly! Thanks again, and visit often!

Thanks, Peter, for your very constructive comments - I'll try to apply them all!

Oh no, Chaim. I left you my comment but it doesn't work. Not sure what is happening. But I really like your website. Learned something new. Will surely drop by for more. :D Thank you.

Jenn

Chaim - a compelling niche and some excellent writing ... left you a comment too.

A few thoughts/suggestions:
1. A header image more relevant to your niche
2. Bigger versions of your images on a page - they are well chosen and thumbnails tend to get overlooked
3. The ad in the sidebar distracts - bin it and replace with a banner ad for your eBay store
4. Rather than a broad BLOG menu item where all your interesting stuff is lumped, develop some categories (Fakes & Forgeries, Datings, etc) and have these as menu items.

Keep it going - you are on a winner!

Cheers, Peter.

Peter - so far I have done 1 and 2 of your helping suggestions. Do you think there is a change for the better? As for 3 - I have checked out on eBay and there is no such thing as a banner ad for an eBay store! 4 is work-in-progress.
Thanks.

Chaim - the site is looking terrific.
The header image is a stunner although it seems to be only displaying on your home page (perhaps a theme setting?).
As for the banner ad, just make your own with an eBay related image and suitable text (as on your Shop page). and insert in the sidebar.
Let me know if you get stuck.
Peter.

You have a good site so far. Lots of good information and use of images. If you want more traffic from Google, I would say more content.
I didn't start to see decent amounts of daily traffic until I had 25 pages on my site.
With so many websites out there now, it can take a few months of consistent effort to show up on the Google radar.

Thanks a lot Steve for the encouragement! OK - so here's to rolling up my sleeves and simply getting down to adding content!
Cheers!

I left a comment on your website. I believe you have a great niche. I wish you every success.

Thanks a lot! Checking out your comment now...

Chaim I agree I think you need to give more material on the reviews and reduce the adverts....

Hey Chaim great site and informative too...well done

Hi Chaim

Well done for getting your site up and running. Here are a few things that you will want to think about.

1. Keywords - I cannot see from the pages that I looked at that you are using keywords properly. (Feel free to correct me). You should be using a keyword in the heading and in the first paragraph.

2. Images - the quality of your images is poor. They are far too small and are not adding to your writing which is a pity. People will look at headings, subheadings, images, captions and look for keywords before they will tackle your text. Only 16% of people will read a whole webpage. So your images are important. I would address this as quickly as possible. You might find these two resources of mine useful :

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/bis/blog/adding-relevant-captions-to-your-images-will-encourage-more-readers

3. Dense text - You don't want to have too much dense text without break it up with subheadings and/or images. I notice you're not really using subheadings. You're post re: Jewish religious articles could certainly do with some as could your home page.

4. WIIFM - The question most people want to know when they visit a site is 'What's in it for me? - I know your site is in it's early stages - but it wasn't obvious to me as a visitor what I would get. It may sound obvious - but you actually need to spell it out. Am I going to be able to buy products, solve a problem, expand my knowledge.... you don't say.

5. Too many adverts - you have far too many adverts on your eteacher review and it is spoiling what you have written. Suggest you cut it down.

6. Review - if you're going to do a post called a review then you would be best to do a balanced review. Your review of e-teacher doesn't give someone enough information. Should I buy it? What are the good and the bad, is there anything that could be improved ....

If you're going to be doing a lot of reviews - stick to a standard format. You might find this of some help.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-create-a-product-review-on-your-website

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/bis/blog/writing-product-reviews

7. Main picture. Change it to something more relevant rather than the standard wordpress picture.
Hope this helps :) Beverley

Thank you Beverly for your time investment in writing all those important points that you made! Now you've given me a lot of homework to do... ! Relating to your points:
1) My main keyword phrase was "Judaica Art Crafts" as in the domain name. I will go over it all again to make sure it gets better exposure.
2) What resolution is usually recommended? Sometimes I took larger pictures and "dragged" their corners inwards to make them smaller - so you are saying they should be bigger, or the resolution is their problem?
3) subheading sounds a good idea!
4) WIIFM - I say up front that I want to expand peoples' knowledge on the subject - apparently I didn't get that message home if you couldn't find it!
5) I put those other language ads there (French, Spanish, Korean...) in the hope it would catch Searches for people looking to learn the lingo in those languages - I appreciate that you thing it was overkill and wouldn't achieve what I had wanted!
6) Will do
7) Okay - though perhaps I ought to explain on the site that my choice of picture was deliberate - it sort of conveys for me the long journey that our people have come through the ages. I guess that the connection to the site's theme is too vague, in that case.

And thanks again!

Chaim, As always, you are welcome and will do. Cindy

Chaim, Yes, you did it! Your menu blog now has snippets. Fantastic job! Cindy

Thank you Cindy - the credits go to Cindy's pointing that out to me! Keep pouring out that Constructive Criticism, please, Cindy and all you fellow WA's!

That looks great my friend. I love your site. You have done a great job!

Many thanks fellow WA! Encouragement goes a long way!

Not a problem. Keep up the good work.

Does Google rank pages by using the individual words within the keyphrases separately , or as a phrase ?

I think google uses algorithms to factor in everything it takes to rank a website on the first page. They determine which websites are the most useful and consider which ones are relevant to content searched for.

There are many important factors I've read on SEO. Important factors range from keyword usage, Site Structure, Speed, Time Spent On Site, the Number of Inbound links, And Quality, among others.

I think once you get all these things happening at the same time, the single key word will not make as much of a difference. But I use key word phases to make sure I have enough of everything going on! lol

I'm not saying key words are not important. I think we just tend to get bogged down in this area instead of just taking the step. We over analyze what happens if we are going to fall, instead.

So advice from myself and failure? Spend more time on posts and writing, then worrying about how google see's your keyword. Some key words fail no matter how well written your content is..so to be successful we will always have to create new content and work on getting other key words to just fall into place. And they will, eventually.

That sounds very convincing Rick - thanks very much for the clarification!

Hi - as a phrase - a single word is unlikely to rank well, purely because of the sheer number of web pages and posts that would contain any given word.

Cheers, Mark

Hi - keyword is not a single word, it actually means "phrase".

So whenever you see "keyword" think "phrase" - and you'll be on the right track.
