Never underestimate the importance of the images on your website

Images are an important part of your website, as most visitors will look at headlines and images long before they look at the main content of a post or page. Back in 2012, I wrote a blog and designed an infographic about it called - Tips For Making Your Website Images Count. (If you haven't seen it - it's worth taking a look)

Why revisit images?

Well Ive been reviewing a lot of sites recently and almost without exception in my feedback I've suggested that people improve their images and add captions. Feel free to ignore this piece of advice but if you don't have captions you're missing out on a key opportunity to draw your visitors in and encourage them to carry on reading and hopefully eventually become customers.

Captions should be relevant

Just as you've read an image should be relevant - so should the caption. It's pointless putting up an image and then giving a description of what it is. People can see that with their own eyes. What you want to do is try and highlight a benefit of the product or service which your readers will be looking for.

Hope you find the infographic below useful

Oops, I have some images to caption. This was really useful and I liked your comment about captions being relevant as well as the image. Thanks

Thanks Rick. I think I probably have too or at least some of them need reviewing!

Beverly, nobody can teach info graphics better than you..thanks...:)

Thank you. That's kind of you to say so.

Absolutely agree:-)

Thanks Digger!

Thanks for another useful article Beverly. This seemingly minor detail can only be to the advantage of any website (owner) who follows it ;-)

Thank you. Yes those minor details can make all the difference.

Thank you, great idea that I hadn't thought of... Will keep this in mind for future posts and articles...

Thank you. Hope you find it useful.

Great tip!

Thanks Patric

I had a similar discussion regarding this subject yesterday. It reminded me that often times we upload profile pictures with file names like Ac0003546 when we really should rename them with the actual name of the person in the photo as well as caption them with the name. It's often the little things that get past us in our hurry to publish. But all those little things can add up and not only help with search results but also provide content that is perceived as valuable. Thanks for the reminder Beverly.

No problem Trish. You're right. It's very easy to overlook these things.

Your pictures just explained exactly how effective the differences in captions can benefit the posts. Thank you for the tips.

Thanks Gordi. Hope you find it useful.

Thanks. Will surely keep in mind and revisit and edit my images.

Good for you. I think we all need to revisit our captions from time to time. I know I do!

Thanks Beverley…we had a member with a problem putting captions on his pictures. Here is the link…maybe you have the most knowledge to assist him…thank you.
