How Can We Help Members If You Do Not Read The Question

Mini rant here people.

I understand that we want to be a helping community but how is that possible if you do not understand the question?

Now granted, many times a member will not be clear in their question, making it difficult to give an answer. But when the question is CLEAR, how can everyone read it wrong?

Take a look at a question just posted by Vijay. He clearly asks for website names. Now read the comments below mine.

If you want to help your fellow WA members, make sure you carefully read what they are asking for before you reply.

When giving domain ideas, try giving domain names that are available. Most times the names people suggest are already taken.

You can easily go to a website like NameCheap or some other registrar, type in a domain name on their home page and see if it is available.

Rant over.

Hi Rob!

In my humble opinion, I believe it is possible that people may have read the Question but not the qualifying additional info that followed.

The Question was:

"I want to start a Travel Blog. Any suggestions?"

That is possible but to not read the whole body of text is irresponsible.

I usually get very few responses when I post a question. The answers I do get are sometimes very generic and don't even address the question, so I hesitate to even ask. Maybe it's a "me" problem, and I don't ask the right questions. I also notice that the "flashy" post titles seem to get more responses, but I have been scolded before, when I used what was called a misleading headline. I was just trying to get some people to answer my question.

Steve/Kris - It can be very frustrating if you don't get an answer to a question but do not give up. If it's a simple question and you need a quick answer you can ask in the live chat. It can sometimes be hard if there's multiple conversations going on and someone might say to you to blog your question - but it's worth a try.

I don't know how good you are at using the search bar to find the answer you want. A lot of people don't use it and pose a question first. There are an an awful lot of answers already out there.

But as I said at the beginning do not give up. You should never be afraid to ask - even if you have had some duff replies or none at all.

Beverley

Just be as descriptive as possible, even if it takes a couple of sentences to get your question out.

And many of the responses I've seen are just plain wrong, no other way to put it. Or they are the "Go here, go there, see that guy." responses.

There are also the rank chasers that MUST get their 2 cents in on everything. These type even post questions so they can critique the answers.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you sooner. Yes, I use the search bar frequently and then I turn to live chat or pose a question. Thanks for getting back to me. I didn't get this notification for some reason.

Thanks for the rant, it's needed...:)

Totally agree

*sighs*

I noticed that...

Well said.
Many newbies in the house too.
update:
Just checked, actually not a newbie

It boggles the mind, Rob. There is a HUGE difference between "name" suggestions and "niche" suggestions.
I haven't suggested anything , myself. Your suggestions are were pretty good!

Simply ridiculous.

Good point.

It's mighty hard to find a domain names that are good coms and not already parked for sale for a ransom. I suggested rojalraj.com and was appalled at the price!

Every .com name I suggested was less than 10 dollars.

I suggested few domain names that are available

Yes, you did. But others before you and I did not.

btw, the name you suggested was a good one.
