BREAKING NEWS!

Today December 18, 2017 a Brute Force Attack is underway against WordPress websites worldwide. What is this kind of attack?

According to Techopedia, a brute force attack is a trial and error method used to obtain information such as a user's login password. This type of attack uses automated software to generate a large number of guesses over and over again to gain access.

You can read more about this current attack at the below link.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

I think it is safe to say that you need to do nothing in response to this attack. I feel pretty darn confident that Carson, Kyle and the rest of the tech guys at WA have safety measures in place to protect us from this.

One of the many reasons why I love WA is for the protection and hosting services we get here. And for those times when there are service problems, tech support fixes them pretty quickly. I feel safe at WA.

FYI, Before you ask, you DO NOT need the free wordfence plugin mentioned in the article at the link above. It will not work with the WA hosting.

Good to know! Thanks for this! I really appreciate all the benefits we have here such as security and IT support.

Many member do not realize just how great it is to be a member here beyond just the training and ease of website building.

success vampire .

Yup.

Can you clarify about Wordfence not working here? I have the free version on every site I host here and it seems fine. Are there certain features that won't work?

Unless things have changed recently, when I tried installing it a few months ago I couldn't get it to work. But as it seems, I do not need it anyways thanks to WA's security.

Need to find out where that is coming from and drop a MOAB on their punkin' heads...just sayin'...

LOL.

Thanks...there's alot of haters out there!

You are welcome.

Another good reason to not use admin as a login. It's beyond dopey, but I'm going to go watch A Christmas Carol rather than engage in dispute. I trust WA. I also trust me and the added security measures I've learned to use over the years. One should not negate the other.

I agree. I definitely do not use admin as a login on any of my websites and I also feel quite confident in the WA security measures.

Just to clarify, Wordfence does work with WA. I receive my weekly reports from them on Monday, and it is still picking up and blocking malicious IPs every week. It is far less activity than prior to moving my sites to WA, but Wordfence is a reliable addition to the WA security.

Thanks for the heads-up and the reassurance, Robert.

You are welcome.

Thanks for the info Robert. It's kinda scary to hear something like this. Anyway, I also trust the WA team.

Yes. I feel safe with the WA team behind the scenes.

I saw this report from Wordfence. Seems like all is under control.

If it is not elsewhere I am sure it is under control here at WA.

I read that report this morning Robert. My sites are hosted elsewhere and they do have Wordfence installed.

I didn't bother to write about it because I knew that WA hosting would take care of the websites in their care.

Even so, it's probably a good time to do a backup as a precaution.

Good idea Marion.
