Siteliner : Broken Links And Duplicate Content.
I was reading through a member site and came across a referral to Copyscape that scans your site for duplicate content. After the scan I got a message of 'page not found'. I was then given the option of navigating to 'Siteliner', which I did.
After the scan, I got worrying results. A total of 19 broken links and 56% duplicate content within my pages. So I clicked as they tell you, and the results came up on each page with the little nasties highlighted. I go to my site, click to check, and only 3 were broken that linked to other pages, as I had changed and updated a few.
All the others are working fine and still very valid. Now they tell you that their crawlers are similar to Google's, so is G going to find the same 'results' and penalize me for it?
The duplicate content astounds me, it's not from other sites but a certain amount of the same 'words' that occur on different pages, in my case with my niche being homemade preserves, words like, pickles, jams, chutneys, tomatoes etc. How do you avoid repeating these, and once again, is G going to move me down the ranks for it?
Any answers from you clever people out there? I am so confused at the moment.
Lydia.

Lydia, I agree with Davidi92, that it's about copying a whole sentence, or even more, not just a single word.
I use http://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/
Whenever I do new content I put it though plagiarism to see if there is any duplicate content. If there is you usually only have to change a few words maybe only one or two words in the sentence to make it unique. I do not think it is just one word but the whole sentence, try it you might like it :)
Hi Lydia...looks like you got good answers to your questions below.. Just keep that great content moving!
Hello Lydia, I saw where Siteliner is new and its a demo so its not that accurate.

Don't stress. In this world of ours there is always going to be some re-use of common words. Totally unavoidable. Pickles can mean the vegetable for you, but be the name of someone's pet Great Dane :)
Nothing worth the stress. Just focus on your topic, keep on writing and it will all shake out. Cheers!
You're welcome :) Sometimes it just takes a moment to step back and laugh at it all. I look forward to reading your stuff. I'm a vegetarian myself (though not a pickles fan) :)
I often feel that some of these people who say we viruses etc and we go check often it is just scare mongering before I worry about any of these type of things will be asking on here first, hope your few broken links are ok now
I know that this is not the answer you're looking for but thank you for this information about Siteliner. :)
Hello Lydia, I wouldn't worry about that. Of course you are talking about YOUR subjects and there is nothing wrong talking about jams on different pages or posts.
Don't let these "free" things worry you
John
You're right John. I realize that I probably worry too much about the nitty grittys. Lydia.
