Amazon has Gone to the Dogs

While researching deals for Prime Day, I ran into an error and found out that Amazon has gone to the Dogs. This is what showed up on my screen:

I refreshed it and got another dog. Then, I typed in Amazon.com hoping to get back to the deals. I kept getting more images of dogs. I'll share a few more just in case you would enjoy them as I did. Otherwise, scroll to the bottom for the rest of the post.

There were several more. I don't want to spam this blog post with pictures, but I thought it was a great idea. This has inspired me to come up with something relevant for my 404 pages to make it more fun. I am not sure how to make them rotate like Amazon did. It certainly beats going to a typical 404 or 503 (as it was in this case) page.

I'm not sure if you can replicate the 503 error but this is the link I had when I got the error: https://www.amazon.com/stream/...

If you want to meet the dogs of Amazon, here's the link dogsofamazon It didn't work for me at the time, but I bet it will soon.

Thanks for sharing. Nice image.

You're welcome. Hope you had fun seeing that :)

Lol!

That's the first thing I did- laugh out loud!

Interesting find Becky!

Thank you! I thought you might enjoy it as much as I did.

Very cute and such a neat idea!

I agree. It was a lot of fun refreshing to see what came up next.

Cool idea!

That's what I thought! Thanks!

That's a great idea! It definitely is way nicer as a user when you come across a 404 to have a nice message instead of the simple, boring 'page not found'.
I personally have always like the cute ''oops, something went wrong and we're trying to fix it'', with the emoticon and similar.

But now I'm confused; for a site owner to put something cute or polite on the 404, they need to know they have a 404, and if they know they have one, then.. why not just fix it? (Or maybe it's not necessary if it relates to a page that was moved or deleted on purpose by the site owner?)

A page not found (404) could also appear when someone uses the search feature on your site to search for something you haven't written about (say your site is about dogs, but they look up a breed of cats).

Of course, most site owners would love to fix the problems. But there are times when the site owner isn't aware of a problem, so it would be good to have a fun 404 error page.

So funny Becky.
Maybe that's a good omen for my dog site!

That would fit in nicely! I'd like to know how you implement it.

Becky, I'm not sure what you mean about implementing it.
I haven't done anything with Prime Day, if that's what you mean!

No, I wasn't talking about Prime Day for your site. I was thinking you could add a dog picture to your 404 error page if your theme offers that option.

That's a great thought Becky. Thank you. I'll have to look at my theme.

Wow, that's so funny!

That's what I thought, so I had to share! This is the first time I ever saw something like this on Amazon.

Sheriff's my favourite

After I wrote this, the link to the Dogs of Amazon started working. Here's some fun info about Sheriff.

And he's a Golden-Aussie mix.
What a coincidence he's an Ozzy like me

I Like Corbin the dog..LOL

He looks like a fun dog!
