HTML for beginners 2 - HTML editors
Hello to you all, as promised I will continue my series of blog posts on HTML for beginners and in this post we are going to talk about HTML editors
So what are HTML editors?
HTML editors are software programs for writing web pages, there are many types out there but because there are so many, I am only going to talk about 2 of them which are the free ones
There are also ones called WYSIWYG editors such as dream weaver but theses types are very expensive and used for web developers that build sites for client from scratch using HTML code
Mostly I will be focusing on learning HTML, so you can utilise what you learn within your WordPress site, as all of us use WordPress
So we will talk about the 2 most popular and in my opinion best ones to use
The first one is called note pad and is installed on every windows computer, it is available through going to all programs > accessories and you can then pin it to your task bar, for those on MAC sorry but I have no knowledge of MACS, but I am sure if you do a Google search you will find one for MAC
Note pad is widely used and is very simple to it is popular amongst internet marketers for copying, holding and transferring information to websites
The main reason to use HTML editors is that they are capable of saving files with the correct extension such as .txt or .htm and .html where as, Microsoft word uses .doc and is not compatible with WordPress, I will be doing another post next on website file structure before we get into HTML code itself, so you can understand the importance of file extension in websites
So, what about the next one then, would you like a few more bells and whistles with your html editor, well you can and its 100% free, introducing Notepad++
To put it in simple terms, if HTML editors were cars, notepad would be a 4 door family saloon and Notepad++ would be a formula 1 racing car.
As can be seen here, it has a lot more functionality built in, and even has plugins that you can add, to improve it even more, but the real big advantage, is that it has a built in FTP client, which is a way for you to transfer files direct from you computer straight you your website file location, without the need for a separate FTP client, such as Filezila
You can download it here
Its completely free, no catches and no trial offer, like all software you learn by playing with it, so its worth downloading it and having it in your, now, what should be growing arsenal of internet tools.
Free tools, Free tools, we love free tools
Hope you now feel a bit more enlightened, when it comes to HTML editors
Until the next time, keep on blogging
Barry

Like it alot, Barry! Do you recommend the one with the installer or without? Just curious.
It was great - just returned from Tennessee where my grandson graduated high school - got a full ride to pursue his dream - MUSIC! Very proud of him, obviously!
How's it going with you? Good, I hope!

Good one Barry. I have downloaded it.
Masirois, You mean that it is already there in my Windows7?
Good info Barry. FYI - the equivalent for Mac is called Text Edit, and like Note Pad on Windows, it comes automatically installed.
