Hi there. My name is Marcel. I joined WA in July 2013, trying to figure out all of this working online business. This is my first time doing anything like this, so I'm always looking for any advice I can get!
I decided to update my profile because I didn't think my first one gave enough insight to how I really got here.
Before I ventured into the world of online marketing, I had worked for a Fortune 20 company as an HR Manager for 10 years......Quite frankly, I hated it.
I found myself in a situation where I was working 70 hours a week to make enough money to pay for a house that I couldn't seem to sell because the market was so bad. I had "inherited" the house when I divorced several years back. I seemed to be stuck, living where I didn't want to, doing work I didn't want to, for money I only needed to pay for a house I didn't want.....and the circle goes round....
So, at the tender age of 38, I ran away from home.
I resigned from my job (with no other job in site), packed all of my things into a moving van and trucked it down from Providence, Rhode Island to Nashville, Tennessee (where I knew not one soul). I took an apartment, site unseen, and started trying to figure out how I could work independently on my own terms.
Some of my acquaintances would suggest that my decisions were spurred on by the proverbial "mid-life crisis". I can assure you that I and my endlessly supportive friends and family would all disagree. I like to call it the awakening.
It's a year and a half later as I write this.
So....major changes. In the last year and a half I basically started my life over. These days, I live in a city that I love. I have a cozy and secure home that suits me fine (that same apartment, site-unseen).
I shocked my friends and family yet again, when 3 months ago I went to Africa and got re-married to a wonderful man named Michael. We are working on immigrating him and his one-year old son to live with me in the states.
I don't focus on money to pay for a life I don't want anymore, but only to support the things that make me happy. I continue in my quest to work independently on my own terms. The community within WA has contributed in a very significant way to my professional and personal progress. It's been a learning experience as I discover different ways to connect with others since I now work independently.
A bit more for extra credit (the credit goes to you for reading this far!) I grew up in various places along the US East Coast. I have a degree in fine art and a long background working in a corporate environment. My passions are art, music, acting, architecture, animals and I love the woods. I am also a bit of an online junkie :) It's fantastic to be here and to be involved in the WA community. I look forward to seeing you all out there in WAU.
