The POWER system

Many of us, if asked would have a lot of goals and these goals would fall into many categories. I have looked into these categories a great deal and keep arriving at the same groups. i have changed some of the headings as i feel that a) way too much emphasis is placed on goals around the 'financial; area and b) there needs to be an area for the goals 'not of this earth' or of a 'spiritual' dimension. Now you can call this personal empowerment, self-help, religious but I will be calling it something a little different.

P is for Physical

We all should have physical goals, be it to stay in shape if you are and to get in better shape if you're not. These goals may be as simple as implementing an easy at home routine or getting your self to a gym or training for the next triathlon. Physical includes your eating regime and alternatives and your alcohol intake, this may include beating the white sugar or caffeine addiction or managing an IBS or Crohns problem.

As we get older the physical aspect should include your routine doctor checks at 40, 50, 60 and beyond. If you are suffering from an ailment or a disease process then maybe your P could include a treatment regimen.

P is Physical and it's Personal!

O is for Outrageous!

We all have goals and dreams and then we have GOALS AND DREAMS! This is the fun one, this has been called the BHAG or Bee-hag, the Big Hairy Audacious Goal.

This is the beach house in Malibu, this is the condo in the Colorado Rockies, this is the 3 week Maldives holiday or maybe the new boat.

Now remember we will be discussing the SMART testing of goals in a later lesson so your goal still has to pass the 5 point test.

Example of a goal too ridiculous - I want to be president of the USA, well I am not an American citizen so that will never happen, I want to have 10 million by next week, not going to happen and I also will not be the next quarterback for the Denver Broncos at 50. So have a wish, walk with your loved one and think BIG! Just dont think RIDICULOUS!

O is for Outrageous and Out there and OMG

W is for Work and it includes WA

We all, well most of us have work and even within work we will and should have goals. Work is so vast an arena that I will leave work goals up to you and your family to decide.

W does also stand for WA and includes the training, ranking, followers, posts, sites and so on.

Remember 10 yrs could be that change in career or stopping altogether to sit on that boat in the Med that you planned under O.

E is for Ethereal and Entertainment

Ok I know, 2 subjects, well it is and it isn't. I think that Entertainment includes your family life, your social life, your hobbies and your fun time and I feel that your religious or spiritual life slides in here nicely. So I am sticking by my E for Ethereal and Enlightenment.

These goals include goals for your family, this may be time with your lovely spouse or significant other, time with your children. It includes your social life, maybe its lacking or maybe its taking over. Do you want to develop any hobbies or fun activities. E is also the ethereal, the delicate, the out of this world goals of spirituality and enlightenment, we need these too.

E is your Entertainment and yourEnlightenment.

.......and for once financial comes last

R is for Rewards and Return on investment

Rewards include the money, you may spend most of your time here, dont know why but people do and these are the goals that they focus on. R is the income, the raise, the bank balance and yes, it is very important, it is hard to fund your other categories with zero income. Return on Investment by the way is the concept of an investment of a given resource (Time, money and/or energy) and the yield back to that investor (i.e. - you) in the form of a reward.

These are the goals that will need to be tracked monthly to achieve the yearly to achieve the 5 yearly and so on.

So there you have it, the categories in which we will play, learn and change our lives.

"Remember if we don't set the goals then someone or something else will set them for us"

Tasks 0/2 completed
1. Understand the POWER system of classifying goals
2. Think about your specific goals and dreams

Hi MikeyB-just confused myself. Ha. It is better to start with Skyhorse's goal course, then yours, correct? Thanks a lot.

Lol yeah. We both talked about it and mine goes into the mental aspect and more on obstacles and such with your goals, then his is the goal setting. Although mine does do goal setting as well. They are a tag team event.

Mikey, you have no idea lol. But both the theory and practical experience is important. You can't have one without the other.

@Jenna, well thank you. I try to be active!

Excellent in every respect, Mike! There's a saying: "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there." Thanks for providing both a path and a guiding light.

WOW, what a powerful course. This is what I have been in need of for the last year or so.

I have been jumping around all over the place and not accomplishing a blasted thing. So, I am bowing up and getting things organized and my goals laid out with weekly plans so that I can progress.

THANK YOU for this valuable course. God Bless you richly. :-) Jerry Mc

What is an A4 notebook?
What is a "coppers jotter" (A7 notebook)?

In the US most people are used to sizes - - an 8.5 inch X 10.0 inch notebook is most common.
Smaller sizes/measurements are available.

You will need a notebook about the size of a regular sheet of paper. A lined common notebook. A copper jotter is the small flip type pad, this is your daily notetaker and pad that is with you for notes and ideas

How can we run them through s SMART test if you want them to be vague and not specific? They will fail because, "be fit and healthy in 10 years" isn't specific. Yes it is achievable, but no its not measureable, and only the person can say if it is realistic or not.

So how many do they need to pass for the SMART test then?

They can SMART test a vague goal absolutely. The goal at 10 years is vague by design as life changes and SMART testing at 10 is a futile exercise. If 'be fit and healthy in 10 years" is not specific at 10 this is ok as it becomes more specific at 5 and 1 and immediate. Getting goals down in a form that can be realised is a first step. I would not 'specifically' know the house I want in 10 but I know I want one. The S in SMART can also be Simple. The course is an exercise in getting these goals down on paper, this alone is major for most people.

Skyhorse, I have amended the 10yr goal SMART test with an addendum to specificity, thank you.

Ok, I forget that sometimes. I have studied goal setting for several years now and even have taught workshops about it. So sometimes I forget that others don't do what I do. Thanks!!!
