Trouble with Gravatar for new Website

Update:

I tried setting up a new email that is not forwarded and I still do not get a confirmation email from Gravatar. I made sure to add the email addresses Gravatar my use also to make sure they don't get blocked and checked spam.

I had no problem adding my Gravatar image to both the default Admin and my Jessica User profile for thrivingcat.com.

Now with my second website I made it work for the default Amin profile but it won't work for the new Jessica profile.

I have been fighting with it for hours and even contacted Site Support but I am still lost. Perhaps one of you has been through this and can help?

Site Support telling me I need to set up yet another email but I don't understand that. I didn't need to with my first site. I only had the default jessica@thrivingcat.com and have it forwarded to thrivingcat@gmail.com. I was able to set up the Gravatar for both user accounts, which go to one each of the email addresses. I tried this time to make both User accounts go to the same email but that was not allowed.

I just don't understand why it would work for my first site and not the second. They have the same theme. Both are forwarded to a new gmail account. Everything should be the same.

I went to Gravatar and tried to add a new email address (which is what we are supposed to do) but the email doesn't show up. I assumed this might be due to the forward but I don't know how to access the original email just the forwarded version at gmail. Does anyone know how to access our Wordpress email or how else to get the Gravatar email to come through?

Thanks!

Jessica

Hi :)

You published this 3 years ago and I am happy to read you were finally able to solve it.

I have been using Wordpress and Gravatars for some time and hadn't had this problem. However I had it today and this was the way it got solved. It may be helpful for somebody.

Have a nice day. All the best.

Thank you for sharing this!

Have you read this page:

http://en.gravatar.com/support/no-confirmation-email/

They suggest resetting your WordPress.com password and say that doing that will automatically verify your account.

~Jude

I have a question for you Jude. I was about to change my wordpress password but I have always been afraid to do that in case it prevent me from being able to login to my sites through WA. Is that ever a concern?

Yes, I read that page.

Thanks

No concern with that. Because it refers to your password at WordPress dot com (which manages Gravatar).

It has nothing to do with WordPress dot org or logging in to your sites through WA.

Go ahead and reset the password as they advise. You might still end up having to send them a support ticket, but let's hope the reset will do the trick.

Ok, thanks!

For your first website, you must have set up a forward to your gmail.

In Atmail, you cannot have the same email address as a 'forward to' address and it also be listed as the website email. It has to be one or the other.

You don't even need to have a website email listed to use the forward feature in Atmail. Not sure if this is what you are asking about. ~Jude

I tried a brand new email that is not forwarded and I still don't get a confirmation from Gravatar.

I have my sites set up the same way (with different email addresses). 2 addresses on the old site. 2 different addresses on the new site.

As it's your second site you could use an email address which is already registered at http://gravatar.com as your admin email address. Go to Users > Edit my profile (or whatever it says) and change the email address.

I will try this Marion.
Thanks,
J.

I don't want my Jessica username to have a gmail address though. If I switch to a different email for the Admin user then I would still have to use nutrientcures@gmail.com for the Jessica username.

I don't think it's possible to verify your email address while it's forwarding to another email address. Switch off the forwarding while you verify with Gravatar then switch it back on later.

I wanted to do that but that doesn't appear to be an option here...it is very frustrating.

I also set up a new email account for my new site (a third) and did not forward it. I thought perhaps I could get the Gravatar verified, then forward it. The email confirmation never came through for that either. I went in and added all the recommended email addresses to the contacts also as suggested on Gravatar's help page. It still doesn't work.

Did you send yourself an email using your new email address? Check if you can send and receive emails and if not contact Site Support.

I use Thunderbird (free) so I can keep up with all my email addresses without any forwards and without logging in and out of several accounts.

Yes, I did and it still hasn't come through 5 hours later! So I just sent SiteSupport another question to ask if it is working.

Is it so impossible to log in to the wordpress email? Nobody can tell me how to get to it. I can only log in to the forwarded destination email I set up with gmail. Does anyone know how to login to our website email?

If you got a non forwarding email address here hosted at WA for one of your domains, you can login at webmail.*. In other words webmail.yourdomainhere
You can find the link at site manager, site email.

Gravatar is supposed to send an verification email to the new email address provided. It can however happen to be busy or something else went wrong at their side.

Perhaps you need to wait for the email a little longer.
Otherwise it could have ended up in spam folder.
When you send email to a forwarding address, email should still arrive at the destination email address. Check if this works first. Gravatar emails should also come through with forwarded email addresses.

If you need additional help, I'll be here.

Steven

I have already tried all of that and more. Nothing has worked. Forwarded email, new non-forwarded email. Checked the spam folders, added the recommended addresses so they would not be filtered etc.

Thanks though!

If you have tested the email address that it works, it is out of your control. It is then Gravatar at fault.

Contact them.

The email is not working though. I sent myself a test email and it didn't go through. So I asked Site Support to check it.

I see. Then that's the problem. Did you delete the forward to recreate it as an email address? This weird bug happened to me once. Sitesupport is definitely the right place to go for the WA specific technical questions.

Steven

Site Support told me the email works now. I just resent the Gravatar confirmation email and it popped right up! I also resent it to the original email that is forwarded and it popped up there too! So hopefully all is well now! Site Support says they didn't do anything! Maybe it was something on Gravatar's end!

Thanks!

Labman is right but for your personal satisfaction contact Gravatar here.

That doesn't quite make sense to me since it worked for my first website but it isn't working now.

Gravatar advises checking email spam filters. That is what I want to do but I don't know how to login to my website email. I can only log in to my forwarded email.

If you created an email forward, you can't log in to the forwarding email address directly here. So that email Gravatar would have sent is going to no man's land...if I am understanding you correctly.

David

Yes, that is what I am afraid of.

If you check your email forwarding settings, you will notice that there is no setting for "Incoming Mail Settings," only "Outgoing....."
Hence, no password for incoming, hence no mail to store there.
The password is on outgoing, however, to allow access to your "recipient server's" (personal) email.
David

So I wonder how this all worked out when I set up my first site exactly the same way. I am so confused.

The forwarded email address goes to another email address I am sure. The Gravatar email will therefore end up in the end station. Check both inbox and spam filters for the end station email address.

But also check on Google whether Gravatar is having problems.

Have you logged out of WP and logged in with the new user-gravatar? Perhaps it needs some activation of some kind? Just think out loud...

Yes, I have. Still doesn't work. Thanks Loes.
