Buy more printer ink or just buy a new printer?
Here is where it pays to shop around. I recently went to the store to purchase more ink for the printer. When I got there and looked at the pack of color ink for my old Epson, they wanted $47 for just the color ink cartridge! Shaking my head with disgust, I turn around to see brand new printers, in the box, including both black and color ink cartridges on sale for $35.
Right then and there, I decided to weigh my options. I browsed the printer aisle and ended up leaving with a brand new printer for less than the cost of just the color ink cartridge for my old, outdated printer. No, it does not have all the same bells and whistles as my old printer, but who needs to send a fax these days anyways?

Ink cartridges and toner are where these companies make their money.
Laser printers, while more expensive up front will help you save in the long run. Toner cartridges can print up to several thousand pages before needing replacement. Ink cartridges can print in the ballpark of 150-250 pages.
Ink is exhorbitant here in Australia so we have started buying it on line. That way it is way, way less.
Its funny you printed this Steve,as I have an epson printer.I have not been able to connect it with my laptop,I did try for a while and then I got fed up with it.It is now sitting on top of my desk doing nothing,I have not needed to use it as such but it is good to know that you have the facility when you need it.
I have noticed this for some years now, it is normal for printers to be cheaper than the cartridges but I switched to a laser printer which is cheapest of all
I got a cheapy a few years back that is great, the Samsung ML 1665, likely has several updates by now. It is a bit of a joke complaining about landfill when they sell products that way.
Very true. I can remember my grandma washing aluminum foil so she could use it again next time.
I'm going through the same process now. The cost of ink cartridges can sure add up. A mono laser option would suit my purpose. ~Jude

You are so right Steve, this what I would do too. Nowadays it is cheaper buying a new printer instead of the insane expensive ink cartridges.
Unfortunately it also adds to the "throw away" culture that is exponentially adding to the garbage heaps of the world unless they are recycled. Cartridges can at least be refilled. However I know precisely what you are saying.
Sad but true
