Empower Network: A Not So Favorable Review

Last Update: March 10, 2013
Couldn't believe this review when I was done!

OK, I'll admit it...I was one of those who previously gave money to Empower Network (EN). Fortunately, after about 5 months, I called it quits and unsubscribed, canceling my recurring payment as well. However, it was my introduction to blogging and websites so the time wasn't all wasted.

Lesson Four of the Phase Two Boot Camp training required another review to post on our site. I knew that at some point I would review EN so I decided to do it now...and was I surprised!
  • I suspected that I would score it 5, maybe 6, out of 10 but it actually came out as a 3.
  • I did an extensive review of their promotions so I could see what they were using to draw people in.
  • As I delved deeper, I was surprised, and shocked, with the degree of arrogance they had moved to since I left.
  • And the total cost, if you purchase all their products: just over $5100.00
I think what really hit home was their comments about how new members are going to make money every day, every hour, every minute...all on auto pilot! Granted, I know they would disagree with that simplistic summary but...I'm quoting them. Go figure.

As I was writing my review I couldn't help but compare EN with WA (our lives are acronyms):
  • At WA new members are trained and supported at no extra cost...which isn't bad considering that you can start for free :)
  • WA teaches you to learn before you earn...kind of like "school leads to a job"
  • WA promotes building a quality business. Offering what your customers want, thinking about them...content.
  • WA does not allow spamming nor is it a "get-rich-quick" scheme
All I can say is that I'm glad I'm here at WA...where I'm not called a "wussie".

I was in EN for over a year and then later joined another company called iPAS2 which is supposed to boost sales and enhance promotion of EN. After joining iPAS2, when just a few months passed, I knew this was not going to work. The low-end products were nothing more than motivational audio tapes from top earners in the company. There was no real training, thus there was no value. Additionally, I was constantly badgered to buy more products and I really got tired of being called a "wussie" when I didn't buy. Needless to say, instead of getting "all in" as they say, I got "all out." And I'm so glad I did. I wouldn't be surprised if EN folds within the next 3 years or so.

I agree. That's why I left EN, there wasn't a tangible product. We have to maintain our values and standards when working online, just like we do in our, personal lives.

Well said Rick! I too was a member of EN somewhere around two years ago. I was excited about it at the very beginning but quickly realized what a mistake I had made. After I watched a few of their so called "training videos", I said to myself, "Something's wrong here"! And as you said, there was absolutely no training on how to build a business, just how to promote their own products. There was just something about "Dave & Dave" that just didn't quite seem to be legit, so I got out of there as soon as I could. Which was about 2 months from joining! Also, I got really tired of hearing, "badass" in every other word! Good report! Glad we're both here at WA!

Hi and great to see you here. The vulgarity has gotten worse. I did another review a few months ago and it was really difficult to get past all the swearing. This is not professional and certainly not a way to keep people. All the best to you here.

They give no refunds, either

Nope, their url is still up there. Just keyed it in. I just got out of EN a couple of weeks ago. They keep you linked into their site though for a few weeks or months after you "unsubscribe". Incase you want to rejoin. Their Alexa ranking is 448 at the moment. It was 431 a couple of weeks back. Maybe Google is getting a bit wary of them, or they've lost a few members. Maybe they're not getting the sign up's they were.

Welcome. I'm glad you got out of EN. I was there for about 4 months and always wondered what the heck the product was. I messed up a few things online because of the lousy teaching. Since coming to WA I've been learning the right way to build an online business...#1...learn before you earn. And there is nothing truer.

Jump onto Live Chat if you need any help. There is always someone on who can help. We made the right decision coming over here.

Alexa is meaningless and the fact that so many people within Empower Network gloat about this really shows the lack of knowledge share there about how the internet really works. If you want to find out what Alexa ranks mean, I suggest you check out this post:

Great to have you here at WA and if you need anything going forward, let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi Rick, thanks for the welcome. I just read Kyle's post about Alexa too. I checked out Alexa earlier tonight. Quite expensive isn't it??!!! Yes EN is a bit all over the place. A mixture of nice people and those bordering on almost "fanatical". I don't call any of the core 8 videos at the $25 level training. I mean - video 5 make sure you listen to the Empower Hour, video 6 listen to a positive audio daily, video 7 read positive material everyday, blah, blah. I think each day I am more grateful that I have sense about me and was only there for 2 months. I am thinking of joining WA. You all seem so much nicer here and intelligent. Nobody swears here or calls anyone a "wussy". Ha, ha.

I have just read an interesting forum about EN being booted out of google. Anyone else hear this? I typed "empower network" and empowernetwork.com is not showing up anywhere.

Yes, this has been since the latest Panda update which removed content spam from the SERP's (and was probably Google's biggest search update I have seen in terms of "cleaning out" their results).

I got bombarded to join this "crap trap" but I heard what Kyle was saying so I didn't walk in the door. It is good for you to warn our members to stay away from Internet scams. It's important to listen to Kyle and Carson on such matters. I always check any tempting sites by looking at the anti spam, scam sites. Tnx! John

Thanks John. One thing I found out was that there needed to be more honest and critical reviews done by others, not the members of EN. I searched but it took me a while to find one and then that led me here.

Well, thankfully my credit card is my bank! I have now refuted the charges and it worked. If there were charges, it helps to print out the transaction history from the merchant in question. That's what I did and it saved the manager extra time. I hope that helps for someone else. Thanks for the response, Kyle!

No problem, glad you were able to deal with this. Also, I definitely look forward to working with you and I know you are going to love your experience here within a community that cares. :)

Hi. Glad your credit card worked. I did the same but also sent a message to their Support Center. They actually responded, I was surprised. Still double checked on the next auto-withdrawal date...all good.
Reply
smilley Premium
I believe with most banks the pending of transactions are about 1 to 5 business days from when the transaction went through. This gives you a little time to deal with it, if all else fails. Well, I couldn't reach the merchant during the time. Perhaps this wasn't Empower Network itself, however PureLeverage promoted Empower Network. And the refund police for PureLeverage wasn't clear, either.

What I also didn't know is that I was automatically enrolled in their circle program, which is $100 a month through Empower Network. I'm still shady on how it works when you're under a sponsored team that integrates 3 MLM income opportunities all into one. It was my own ignorance that I wanted multiple streams of income all at once, rather than trying one at a time. My sponsor told me you couldn't really make it without the Empower Network program, which is the viral blogging platform. Even the word viral sounds funny to me. Wanting to go viral shouldn't be your motivation. Engaging and blogging should be! The rest is history.

I'm glad you were able to withdrawal easy. I'd love to hear if others had it easy, as well.

One more thing, whatever number my bank called, she couldn't contact the billing department. She said she left a message on their machine about the dispute. Basically, she handling everything! Either way, I was relieved in the end. I had to sign a document disputing it was fraud. I even gave her the URL Kyle sent me on the rip-off. She said there was no cases concerning Empower Network at this particular branch. I don't think they had any sponsors in my area. I really could rant on, however your time is important!

Contacting your credit card company would be a good start if they don't give you an option to get out of their system.

Thanks for the review, Rick. EN says what most of us want to hear. That catches many of us, at least a time or two, before we find WA. What a difference and what a relief it is to find out that WA is seriously training us to be successful. Refreshing! Dennis

Thanks, Rick for this review. I think its great you are doing reviews here. I have made some reviews to warn people about "shiny-object-sindrom" busineses. I always wanted to help people to find legitimate online opportunities. Maybe their blogging platform is good i dont know, there are not much blogs out there.

I could be wrong, but I think mostly get realed in just because of the opportunity to earn money, not the fact that there is a blogging platform and other stuff. Its like gym where someone says, join and you will get healthy and you don't even have to workout ...

I agree. They provide a blogging platform but the business is not about creating quality content but about selling something, that's it. Gotta watch those shiny object schemes.

From what I've read, I think EN is huge right now. I watched the sales video and it seemed too good to be true. I could see that the founders were making a lot of money, but I sensed it was because their customers were spending a lot of money. Typical marketing funnel where they rope you in at a low price and then upsell you until you are broke. The video was a turn off to me, but it apparently works on a lot of people.
Reply
Rick Jantz Premium
I agree. I watched one video...signed up...watched another video...signed up...watched another video...and wondered when it would end! Fortunately I stopped after the 2nd sign up. I never received any useful training nor any sales. At WA we're taught first and then earn. That way makes more sense to me and is a better long-term plan. Thanks for your comment.

I believe its just like in the movie Back To the Future with M.J.Fox where the skeets always teased him with the phrase "what you can't do? Are you a chicken?" Here did it got him in the second part got fired from his job, and almost got into an accident later on. By saying that i think we dont have to prove anyone anything, only to ourselves.

$5,100 or 15 years at WA, I think that makes the choice and unbelievably obvious one.

Better investment here. And remember, at a recurring rate of $145/month with EN that's another $26,000 over 15 years. You never catch up. Kind of puts it into perspective for anybody wondering if the $47/month to go Premium at WA is worth it.

The main thing I don't like about Empower Network is how most people are sold on it.

Most people are sent to a video talking about how they can make a bunch of money using their "viral blogging system". People buy the product.

However, people who buy the product often times don't realize that the people who sent them to the video are not making their money through the viral blogging system, but by signing other people up. A classic case where it's not about the product, it's about signing people up underneath you.

I know a guy(actually a couple of guys) who will take screenshots of the commissions they earn by signing people up. They then post it on facebook to show how much money they are making. When someone asks them about it they get sent to the video where they are sold the "viral blogging system".

To me that is borderline deception and lying. However, I don't think they would make a lot of money if they told people: "hey watch this video and buy this viral blogging system. But you're not going to make money using the viral blogging system, you're going to make money selling the viral blogging system to other people."
Reply
Rick Jantz Premium
Thanks for this. I think you've summed it up nicely. One of the biggest questions I always asked was: what am I selling? Never could put my finger on it and then my ethics kicked in and I answered myself: nothing! Got out.
Reply
ThomasPaul Premium
I do believe they are selling a product. There is a viral blogging system. How good it is I have no idea since I never purchased it.

It would be similar to promoting wealthy affiliate as an affiliate or any other make money online product.

The distinction to me is you don't see WA affiliates claiming how they make all this money through internet marketing and that people should sign up to WA to learn how, mean while the only money they are making online is by signing people up to WA.

If there were people in Empower Network actually using the viral blogging system to either:

a) promote other products and other niches or

b)use only the viral blogging system to sell the viral blogging system

then I wouldn't have such a big issue with it. However, most of the people I know in the Empower Network are selling the viral blogging system by just posting on facebook and using facebook ads.

I have not come across one person in empower network who actually used the viral blogging system to make money, although I can't say that I have spent much time looking.

I did a partial review of EN on my homepage also at www.whowantstobeanonlinemarketer.com If you take the $5000 for all the products at EN and divide it by the $359 yearly WA membership dues, you can be a member for almost 15 years here at WA!

Makes you glad other folks do reviews. I did look for ones at the time but struck out. Probably because EN folks flood the search engines so negative reviews are pushed to the bottom...that's what I thought at the time anyway.

When I see that sort of promotion I look at it more from the perspective of what are they doing right. What buttons are they pushing to get people to sign on the dotted line.
Emulate that if possible in your own promotions.
Keep it honest though.
