Hi Everyone,
I am sure this is a really basic newbie question but a couple of days ago I had a couple of "referral" visitors to my website. What does this term actually mean

Woohoo, congrats, that's really great work. (As in referral links to your WA)

Now, you've got to greet them, make them feel welcome, and answer any questions they may have.

Suppose they later upgrade to a premium or premium plus subscription. In that case, you get commissions, provided the transaction follows WA guidelines and terms of service, and they remain subscribed to the platform.

Otherwise, you have FANTASTIC responses here; kindly let us know if you require additional assistance.

Thanks Abie but it was actually a visitor to my website that was through a referral and i couldn't figure out where they were referred from. Have it sorted now though and learned something new in teh process :-)

Cheers
Pete

Thank you, Pete :) I am aware, but I wanted to share another perspective... I am glad you have it figured out now.

Hey Pete,

How many different platforms are you asking questions on!!!

Hahahahhahahahaha!!

I answered this "elsewhere" for you, but here's the copy and paste:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

referral traffic = your link has been placed on another website and someone has clicked on that link and arrived at your website.

This could be a social network where it hasn't registered on "social traffic" in analytics, this could be another website that has linked to an article on your website, but the most likely for a WA member, who has a fairly new website, is that another WA member has clicked through to your website either from you requesting a comment, requesting feedback, or having your website url in your profile.

Thanks Partha - really appreciate the help, both times :-)

Hi Pete! I am trying to answer to your question!

Generally, referral visitors are those who reach your website through a link generated in an affiliate program.

For example:
I have a shop on Zazzle which is part of their affiliation program. When someone wants to promote my shop, that person creates a link with his/her identification number so that > every person that comes to my shop thanks to his/her promotion is shown in stats as "referral" (and if I have a sale thanks to the traffic they brought to my shop, they will get a commission on my sale).

Have you registered your website in any affiliation programs?

Thanks Suomii,
I am registered on a few affiliate programs but only for me to recommend them not the other way around. I was trying to figure out who might have referred someone to my site. I am sure there must be a way to track this in but I haven't figured it out yet.
Cheers
Pete

Around the end of the year there was a lot of talk about Amazon Associates and how the site stripe function was being ended. I never replaced this yet as wasn't

Well, I have it bookmarked, but I have not used it. Great response and feedback here from Frank :)

Hi Pete

I use non-clickable product images that I don’t get from Amazon and put Amazon affiliate text links below them.

Frank 🎸

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the feedback, I was thinking about doing this. Where do you get the images from and do you use exact images of the Amazon product or just something similar?

Thanks again
Pete

Hi Pete

I get the images for products for my guitar site from a variety of places, including musical equipment manufacturers' websites.

Many times, Amazon gets their images from the same place, but they don't own them, so they can't stop you from using them. The key is not to add an Amazon affiliate link to the images. You need to use their API if you want a clickable image.

Thanks Frank, really appreciate the info

Hey Pete,

Whenever I have an issue with Google, I go to Google's search engine with my question (see screen print below...).

You can see for yourself that others have had similar questions that may provide you with the information you seek.

Here's a link to the most recent support thread that you can see in the screen print, dated 2021: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/117532152/how-does-new-canonical-url-affect-the-old-indexed-one?hl=en

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks Trish,
Thanks for the info, I normally try Google first myself too but have started finding that with website questions there seems to be a lot of conflicting info available, whereas there are a few people in WA that are really starting to become reliable sources. I often find the answers here much better and more up to date than i can find on Google :-)

Thanks
Pete

If and when that turns out to be the case, that's when I head on over to DuckDuckGo (where I go for ALL other tech type help) to see what they guide their users to.

Check out the screen print below...

I have never used DuckDuckGo yet but will give this a try

Thanks again Trish
