I've Taken Drastic Action!
Hi everyone,
Even though I have had an increase in visitors over the last few months it's not as much as I would have liked.
I've tried everything. Made SEO improvements to my site and posts. And tried to be more social.
But still wasn't getting the results I was after.
So ...
I've changed themes!
Although my site was above average when it came to speed. I thought I could do better.
I tried tinkering with coding and plugins and this helped a bit, but ...
I decided that I needed a quicker loading theme.
I didn't really want to do this because I did buy the Pro version of my theme. But I realised it wasn't cutting it.
So in that respect I made a loss with that investment. But you live and learn.
In the long run it will be worth it though ... hopefully.
It's taken me 3 hours to fix up my new theme but it's running faster and that should make Google happy.
Onwards and upwards.

Interesting. I too am thinking of changing themes for my travel blog. Do let us know how this move turns out. It will help us to decide too. :)
Changing themes can definitely be a good thing! I changed my theme about 2 years ago because I had a major problem with the previous one in the comments area that I could not get fixed. Well, it turned out changing themes was the solution to the problem after all as I did not see that problem any longer and the newer theme seems to fit better with my niche.
Yeah my new theme seems to fit my niche pretty well. Makes my site much more professional. And I’ve noticed that people are staying longer on the page, so that’s good.
You may not have a loss on that investment, even though you bought the Pro version, you were able to see the ins and outs of that theme and that helped you with the intro version on that theme.
Jerry
Yeah you're right there Jerry. I didn't want to get go of the theme though as I did purchase it, but at the end of the day I needed to make a tough decision.
I wasn't getting anyway really, so hopefully this new one will be better for me. It's faster and better optimized.
Thanks. I don’t see why this won’t. Both optimization and speed are excellent with this new theme.
Thanks Kev.
I didn't want to get into the specifics with my post about timings and what theme I chose but if you want to pm me I will fill you in.
Well, I have been working hard over the last few months improving my site. And it does look better for it.
Problem was that it just wasn't enough.
So this change I hope will help me.

I too am thinking of changing my theme.
I purchased a pro theme some time ago which was very limiting so I switched back to a free theme which is OK but as my experience has grown, I want to do a lot more with my website which this free theme cannot do.
I'm going to do some research before I fork out any more money.
I'm glad the theme change has worked out well for you.
I started with a free theme when I first joined WA. I realised I could do more if I purchased the Pro version. Also, it helped me to cut out all the plugins.
Problem is I didn't even know that it took a while to load up for visitor.
I tried optimizing my pictures and everything.
But I realised I couldn't do anymore with it, so I needed to make a change.
I didn't want to lose my money but at the end of the day I needed to do something that will get The Genealogy Guide site noticed by Google.
You did the right thing.
I too am looking for a theme that will reduce the need for plugins.
I want to make the change sooner rather than later as I know that it can be a pain to switch.
It was a pain setting things up. Took about 3 hours to do, and I'm still tweaking here and there. But it was definitely worth it.
