Happy Winter Solstice 2017! Choose a word for 2018!
Happy Midwinter everyone!
What is a solstice?
Because of the tilt of the Earth's axis, we experience 4 seasons and different amounts of daylight in the same place throughout the year.
The winter solstice is a phenomenon is Astronomy which marks the day of the year with the shortest amount of daylight, and consequently the longest night of the year. In the Northern Hemisphere, this occurs in December, while in the Southern Hemisphere this is the June solstice.
Winter is officially here!
I hope all of you, in some form or another, are self-reflecting on 2017 that's rapidly coming to an end.
Personally, I like to reflect on each year's goals I set for myself every December. During the holidays, I find some quiet time amidst the busy-ness and festivities and check up on what went wrong and from which mistakes I can learn something.
I also don't forget to congratulate myself on the things I did accomplish, and locate the areas I need to focus more on during the coming year.
Most importantly, I check with my Higher self to see if I have stayed the course; if all my decisions and actions during the year were aligned with my personal values.
But I'm not afraid to change direction if I see that my current path is not satisfying any more! Wants and desires can change as we keep growing, and there's nothing wrong in trying new things and adopting new beliefs.
We have to be honest with ourselves, and as long as we stay true to our Core Values, then everything else we do is adding experience to our lives, or leveling us up if you will. Everything ends up as either good memories, or lessons in case of failures or decisions gone wrong.
Choose a word!
Everyone has made New Year's resolutions at some point, and some of us keep making them. Usually we find that they don't work, not unless we hold ourselves accountable somehow (not just by keeping our goals updated in a To-Do list).
Maybe, after seeing the same and same goals in each year's new Resolutions list, we've come to the conclusion that it's never going to work, if we only make lists just to make them, just due to an arbitrary change of numbers on the calendar, without being self-aware of WHY we want to accomplish each goal.
In this spirit, I read once in a self-development blog that it's more effective if we look inwardly and find one word or phrase, just one, that will encompass the direction we want to take in the next year.
And whenever we are in a decision-making mode, we check with the word we've chosen and our actions should reflect that one word we chose to focus on during the year.
I've tried it in past years and it's worked! I'll follow this advice in this year too, and I've already contemplated my word for 2018.
I chose the word CREATE!
During 2017, I realized I've spent most of my time in "consumer" mode.
Consuming articles, books, TV shows, movies, blog posts... Consuming while my income and savings were dwindling... until I found myself without savings in the end of the year. And without significant creations of my own!
For this year, I aim to spend most of my time in "creator" mode!
Whenever I'm in a dilemma, I will remember the word CREATE and it will motivate me to take action.
Create new blog posts, articles, drawings, trip destinations.
Create abundance, new sources of income, wealth, ways to help others more!
So, what's your word for 2018? Let me know in the comments below!

Very thought provoking Nicky,
After careful deliberation I think the word that best sums up my aspirations for 2018 is "nurture".
Happy holidays everyone.

I'm still in learning mode, since I came to Wealthy Affiliate late in the year. This will change as the year goes on and I continue to work with my goals and grow.
Happy Solstice, Nicky!

Best wishes Nicky,
"Organise"
Thank you!
Yes, I'd picked up this word for a past year and it really helped me with gaining some clarity and not having my mind scattered all over the place!
It's really helpful if you're aiming towards minimalism as well, let go of everything that doesn't serve you anymore - be it unnecessary things or toxic relationships.
And of course it can do wonders when you have an online business!
Happy, organised and Prosperous 2018 :)
Thanks, Nicky, and you too for 2018 and what is left in 2017.
