As an affiliate marketer, we need to be a bit choosy in what products we are promoting. This is important to make sure we optimize our affiliate commission. While this strategy is not necessarily possible all the time, it does most of the time.

How much income we earn from the affiliate program we joined not only depends on how much traffic you get to your website or what is your conversion rate but it also comes down to another factor, that is what are the price point of the products you are promoting.

In this short blog post I want to share a strategy you might want to implement in your marketing efforts so that all your hard work gives you the returns you are aiming to get.

So what is the price point you should look at?

Volume Game?

If you are promoting low priced items, say $13.00 per item, if you make a sale with 4% commission rate, that's come to a measly $0.52. You need to sell 10 of those items per to get $5.10.

Now compare to a product with a price tag of say $70, with one sale at the same 4% rate, you'll make $2.80 per item and you only need to sell 2 of that items to generate $5.60 which is more than what you earn selling 10 items above.

Some niches, for example lady's accessories, most of the products are at the low priced range. In this situation, what you can do is to have related products that are higher priced items.

Work Smart, Not Work Hard!

On the other hand, you do not want to promote items that are highest priced products!

Depends on your niche, you should be able to figure out what is the lowest and the highest price range of products you are going to promote.

How to find those products within the range of the prices you are targeting to promote?.

With these simple 3 steps, you should be able to find the products within the range of prices you want.

Amazon provides a very comprehensive search filter. You should use this features when searching for products you want to promote.

Step 1

Lets for example I am promoting tees on my fashion site and I want to look for items with prices in the range of $50 to $120.

Once you come to the category of product you want to search, click the category to go to the specific section, in this case I go to Top & Tees which gives me a handsome 7% commission on each item.

Step 2

On the product page, scroll down where you can see some options to filter the products you want to be shown.

In my case, I choose to only show product with 4 star rating (Important!) and priced range between $50 and $120.

Step 3

And here are the results of all the products that meet my criteria, which are rated 4 star and priced between $50 to $120.

By adapting this strategy, you should be able to optimize you affiliate commission.

Hope that helps...

Work Smart.

Thanks for sharing these tips, Joe. That's very helpful information.

Thanks.

Great tips... thank you Joe.

You're most welcome Monica :)

I have one question: How do I determine what the commission is?

In the affiliate program, the advertisers are setting up the commission for the sales of their products or services. You need to check this information on the websites.

For Amazon Associate program, there is a table on the commission rates.

Thank you for replying so quickly with this valuable information. I guess I am just so excited to get going and I haven't reached this part in my training. I am sure I will be asking you more questions in the future. Have a great day!

My pleasure Mario

You are right.
For niche research I would go to the Best Seller section and see what products people voted as good products.
