3 Misconceptions About Online Marketing

There are a lot of things you can do wrong as a newbie, but one of the worst is to have the wrong mindset! Here are three simple things that trip up newbies all the time, but shouldn't.

You Have To Learn SEO To Make Money

#1 on the list is definitely this whole "SEO" thing. Yes, knowing SEO can help you earn money online by allowing you to outrank your competition. But knowing SEO isn't a magic bullet to making money.

I constantly run into websites ranked on page one that have their images named Screenshot_01-03 or IMG_004_Canon. They'll have three different h1 tags on a page, or won't even be targeting a keywords. It looks like they didn't do anything to optimize the page, so how can they rank?

There are literally millions and millions of potential searches and search engines just do their best to find the most appropriate results. The whole "search engine optimization" thing is kind of a guessing game too, and the rules we learn aren't set it stone. They're just guidelines and best practices.

In other words, there's a lot of variance we cannot control, so even being an SEO expert wont' guarantee you a page 1 ranking.

The best we can do is try to create content with a specific audience in mind. Of course, there's steps to take to help your content reach that audience, and that's what we're learning in the WA training.

However, the core concept of what we're doing is creating valuable content for readers. All that SEO stuff is just bonus.

Low Competition Keywords Guarantee Rank

Keywords are not the end-all be-all to ranking and making money. They are just one tool in the toolbelt (albeit a powerful one). Finding a "good keyword" doesn't mean you're guaranteed to rank for it though! Again, there's a lot of variables to consider.

Sometimes, stronger websites can outrank with authority alone, even if you target a keyword based on all strategies we learn here in WA. This can be frustrating as a newbie, but the tables will turn as your webiste gains authority.

After six months or a year, you'll write one article, but rank for many different phrases related to that term. Just look in Search Console!

Pro Tip: Look for low competition keywords, but also make sure that it's something people search for online, and written in a way that makes grammatical sense.

Low competition keywords are a great way to find a concept you want to write about, and the approximate (or exact, if possible) phrasing for it. Don't get caught up too much in the numbers though!

Need To "Learn Wordpress" To Have A Good Website

Why do people search online? They want information. If you can devlier that information, then you have a profitable website on your hands.

At the very, very basic level, the only thing you need to be able to do is hit the publish button, and you can make money with your website. If you can write, you can earn money online. Here's my basic 500 word essay training that will help you get started if you are having a hard time formulating a full article based on a topic/keyword you researched. Double that, and you now have the minimum word count of 1000 words!

Keep in mind though, all that stuff is extra. It's stuff you can do to improve upon what you already have. What you should already have at the outset is a solid article on a focused topic. With that very basic strategy, you can make money with affiliate links on your website!
