Beau Jessup is a 16-year old girl from England who earned $64.000. How?

By helping the Chinese parents name their children English names.

She owns http://www.specialname.cn/ site.

She tapped into the Chinese culture where parents name their new-born based on the elements. Her service includes

  • assigning personality traits to English names,
  • selecting the gender of the baby
  • sharing the three chosen names with family and friends on We-Chat to help make the final decision,
  • printing each suggestion on a certificate with its meaning and an example of a famous person with that name.

You know what's the best part. The entire service costs $0.80. By the time of writing this post, she helped naming 235.334 Chinese kids.

Do your math. Amazing, isn't it?

What a wise 16-year-old!

Very much.

Wow, Mudre - It shows that the trite saying "your imagination is your only limitation" is much more than just a trite phrase!

Thanks for telling this story!

Steve

Very right, Steve.
You're welcome.

That's a 16-year-old with a bright future ahead of her in internet marketing. Get her an internship in Kyle's office ;-)

Cool idea. Marcus.

Very clever!

She certainly is. Cheers, Angel.

Good for her - a definite entrepreneur :)

No doubt about it.

I am puzzled with the other side. Why would anybody want to pay for such a nonsense, regardless of the ammount? But obviously many are paying. Strange world, cannot understand it.

It's a part of the Chinese culture. Many middle-class parents in China see their children's future in prestigious western high-schools and universities. They want to ensure they get accepted easier.

I can understand this. Everybody wants to be a part of the decadent western world which is dying without knowing it, as usual for every empire, but why to pay? English names are everywhere. Anyhow, good time for the clever girl.

I couldn't agree more on the declining power of the West as we know it. However, such shifts rarely happen suddenly, and while it's still there many Chinese obviously want to take advantage.
There are other reasons too.
Here's an interesting article if you have some spare time. It talks about cultural patterns you wouldn't expect to see:

Very clever indeed, I'm sure she'll move on up in the online world.

No doubt about it. Thanks Tommy.

That's really great that a kid that age could come up with something like this. It would be unusual if an adult did it because it's so unique. Pretty amazing!!

A fantastic girl. She's going to be a star in the years to come.

Yup, I read that and thought well done to her for "creating" her own little niche and making some excellent money out of it.
Amazing isn't it, small amounts multiplied tens or hundreds of thousands of times equals a whole lot of income.......something for all of us to consider and maybe try to emulate
Mark

It's truly amazing and the ultimate proof people can make money online.

WOW, if she can do it why can't all us adults. Awesome, hope she has success after success. She deserves it.
Cheers Kev

That's right Kev. Cheers.
