The story is standard 'DearJohn' was the common saying among the US military for the kind of letter thathas now been replaced by a "goodbye and good luck" missive.

Another brilliant post. This is going into my book of newly found wisdom and knowledge. Phrases are important especially when they are short as they stick in your head. I found myself many times using phrases that other people in my circle of friends and influence use and with out consciouly knowing it you start mimicking them.
