I Have a Niche, and I Need to Scratch It

See what I did there? I have “an itch”. Get it?

I’d like to start this post by first sending out a huge THANK YOU to Carson & Kyle for all the personal attention and help you've given me recently during my niche picking dilemma (here and here). Believe me guys, the support is appreciated more than you know!

And of course, I can’t leave out all the incredibly helpful, caring, and responsive folks here at WA. Your feedback has been extremely beneficial. Thank you!

So, the reason for my post today is simply to announce that I've finally discovered my niche (ie. my audience)!

As a matter of fact, I discovered three distinct niches I feel passionate about and that appear to have great potential to generate income. Two of the ideas are being shelved as future projects while I focus on my first site.

Why the sudden revelation? Well, it definitely wasn't all that sudden… I got started here at WA about 2 weeks ago on Thanksgiving, and I've been struggling to select a niche ever since.

Eventually, I had a private discussion with Carson which turned on some light bulbs and encouraged me to start asking myself better questions. Then along comes Kyle with a blog post that was a total eye opener and really helped put things in perspective for me.

On top of all that…. I just spent 9 hours in the car driving over the past 3 days. I do my best thinking while driving, and the voice recorder on my phone is always standing by to capture the occasional brain nugget.

Part of my revelation was also the realization that I needed to let go of the “personal finance” niche (which wasn't really a niche at all). Yes, it’s true. I've decided to abandon “Mauder’s Money Matters” and move on.

Could I have narrowed it down to a proper niche within the realm of personal finance? Of course, and I had actually done that. But something about it still didn't feel right. The passion honestly wasn't there, and I knew in my gut it was not the right thing for me to focus on.

Who knows… Someday when I’m truly a “Wealthy Affiliate”, I may return to the topic of personal finance and launch another niche site to add to my portfolio of income-producing Internet real estate.

Now, you’re probably saying, “OK Dave, blah, blah, blah…. Get to the point! What is the wonderful new niche you found?” Well, I’m not tellin’ just yet. Sorry!

Let me get a good start on the new site, and then I’ll reveal it here with another blog post. I’m going back to do a quick review of Level 1 & Level 2 training as I build out my new business. This is not a race, and I’m in no hurry. I said from the beginning, I want to do it right, and I’m committed to doing just that.
