Do Not Fetch As Google Twice In 24 hours LOL~!

Hey there!

I had posted an article on one of my sites the other day. After I 'Publish'ed it and 'Fetch[ed] as Google', I realized that I forgot to do some stuff like adding featured images, meta info, and some other info.

So I wanted to recall Google to the article and 'fetch' it again. I posted a question about it and got some encouragement to try it out so I was pumped!

I made my changes and 'Fetch[ed] as Google'. lol, BIG mistake!

My ranking immediately dropped. Then I also figured out that it must keep track for a while after you fetch because I made some other changes that effected that immediately affected the ranking (or at least it changed again in 24 hours).

However, these changes HELPED my Bing and Yahoo rankings when I 'fetched' the second time. I wouldn't make it a habit though because you'll likely get flagged for spamming.

So this little experiment was quite fun. I sort of feel like a kid pushing the limits a little just with Google and Bing instead of, say, my parents, lol!

Hope this helps others with the same question :)

Hi Marlinda, thanks for sharing your experience. I have never tried to Fetch as Google twice but you raised an interesting point about spamming. :) Yes, it does sound reasonable that the same request made too often can be seen as rather spammy.

Hi Marlinda

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! That is what this family is about.

I've read this article of Dom - which is not directly related to your issue (as I understand it), but which can maybe also be of help. ;-) May you enjoy a lovely day and may 2018 be a good year for your business!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

As far as tips for SEO and so forth, I would go back and watch the Live Video Classes that Jay (magistudios) Neill has been doing the last couple of months. There is a lot there about what you should be doing in 2018 to increase your rank, build your brand and increase your authority in 2018. It does take some time to watch them, but it is well worth it!!!

All the best to you in 2018!

Happy New Year!

Anita

Thanks for sharing, this is good to know!
Happy New Year ;)

Hie-I may ask a simple question but the answer will help me-can you explain in simple terms or step what you mean by fetched google

Hi Lucious,

It's part of the Google Search Console: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

"Fetch as Google" is listed under "Crawl", along with "Sitemaps" and it alerts Google to crawl your new...or newly updated...pages and posts...for faster rankings.

Jim

There shouldn't be any problem with the frequency in fetching, as far as I know.

I think Eric is correct, Marlinda. I've done the same thing as you did many times and I see it improve my ranking.

Normally my changes are improving keywords on the page several times while tweaking it. I have fetched the same page up to 3 times in a 24 hour period.

Jim

That's interesting. It improved my Bing/Yahoo ranking but my Google dropped 7 points. I might try it again some other time but still, I don't think it's a habit I'd recommend making. Tfs :)

I don't think there's actually any downside to fetching as google since they give us something like 500 fetches per week. Don't quote me on that number, but I remember it's high. If there was a downside to it, I don't think they'd give us such a high allotment.

I'm not saying not to fetch the same page multiple times. Just not within 24 hours. It did make my rank drop and I didn't add any affiliate links or anything like that. I'm just sharing my experience and I still don't suggest doing it multiple times in 24 hours. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm ok with that in this case.

Yeah there’s no warning or caution flags regarding how many times we fetch as google or Jay and the mentors here would have covered that in the fetch as google training, know what I mean? In fact, Jay’s the one that says most don’t take advantage of it as much as they can, and with google’s allotment of 500 fetched per week, that’s allowing for way for way more once per day.
