I have been wondering if it is better to change the speed setting to extreme rather than accelerated. I can't seem to find any info

What are your thoughts?

Marion

Hi Marion
As Abie points out, the difference between Extreme and Accelerated in SitePlus+ are clarified on the website. However, I appreciate that many people don't understand the meaning of the words in the explanation.

Here is a simplified (although it might not seem simplified) explanation of what this is about...

Without any Caching, whenever somebody tries to visit a site, many instructions are issued to the server holding the site, and the site is constructed "on the fly" in order to render it on the visitors computer. This is inefficient in terms of use of resources on the server and in terms of speed of loading the rendered site.

So, a cache is used (the simplest form being some space on the server) to store a copy of the rendered site so that the next time someone visits, the site doesn't constantly need to be completely reconstructed. This is provided under "accelerated" in WA SitePlus+.

(You'll see that WA provides a "Clear Cache" button)...
The contents of the cache need to be rebuilt whenever changes are made to a site. This often happens automatically when the site is "called" however,..
When you make changes to your site it's sometimes necessary to clear the cache, for it to then be rebuilt, before you see the changes.

Then there's the issue that certain code, typically Javascript and CSS can slow down the rendering of a site... so minifying is a process that removes unnecessary gaps in the code in order to speed up the executable code. This is provided by WA "extreme".

(There are additional reasons for slow loading of sites, and techniques that can be used to speed up rendering of a site, that I won't go into here).

So you have 4 options in relation to improving site load speed in WA;
1. Turn on "accelerated" to take advantage of WA cache.
2. Turn on "extreme" to take advantage of WAs minification of code.
3. Add additional methods that can run with WAs Site Speed methods. This has to be handled with care because some additional methods will interfere with WAs SitePlus+.
4. Turn off "extreme" and or "accelerated" and implement your own solution. Some members do this, usually at a financial cost though.

Personally, I use WA SitePlus+ "extreme", plus some additions that are free and make a difference for my site... but the thing is that there are many possible causes for a slow loading site and each site needs to be tested and improved separately.

If in doubt, try speed testing without SitePlus+. Then do speed tests with "accelerated" for a few days... then turn on "extreme" for a few days more testing. That's the only way of finding out what will work consistently for your site.

Thank you.
As you say, I didn't understand what the explanation meant. Your clarification is really useful.

You're welcome, Marion.

Hey Marion,

Whether you use "Accelerated" or "Extreme" largely depends on what else you have on your website, especially in terms of plugins.

Site Speed is most typically affect by Javascript, and this is why Javascript is often minimised or delayed in some way.

That being said, there are certain plugins (and even themes) that may conflict with the caching capabilities of WA hosting.

As an example, I have a site that has WP Rocket and Imagify, both of which have caching and minimizing Javascript capabilities.

For this website when I used "Extreme" it literally broke the site, simply because my plugins were conflicting with the WA hosting.

So, I actually turned off Site Speed completely and the site worked fine.

I have since tried using "Accelerated", and this seemed to be okay.

Basically, as long as don't have caching plugins on your website (WP Rocker, W3 Total Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP Optimize, Hummingbird, etc. there's loads of them), you should be fine using "Extreme" with WA hosting.

Realistically, with WA hosting capabilities the only plugin you really need is an image optimizer plugin.

However, as your website journey grows, we all generally tend to add more plugins for various reasons.

These plugins will make your site more "heavy", which can slow down it's performance, so it makes sense to switch to "Extreme" as your website grows.

Hope that makes sense?

I want to offer done for you websites as part of a membership site. Am I allowed to use my websites for this. I can't find anything in the T&Cs

Yes to your clients outside WA.

I currently have the annual Premium subscription which I grandfathered to in March 2020 so have a great deal. I am considering upgrading to Premium+ on a monthly subscription b

I remember Kyle saying that if within the first month of upgrading to Premium Plus you can go back to your Premium membership - and you will not lose anything on your Premium membership.

Now you can always PM Kyle and confirm things just to be sure.

Good advice, thanks

No, I believe you will go back to whatever price you were grandfathered at for premium.

Yes, you will, Joe.

That's great, thank you

Thanks for the backup :)

Anytime :)

Always, Joe!!

I could always count on you :)

Of that, you can be certain. 🙂

Hi

If you upgrade and later decide downgrade, your grandfathered would remain same as long as you do not discontinue your subscription.

If you discontinue, you would lose your grandfathered status.

Or $49 first month then $99 monthly afterwards for premium plus + tier subscribers.

I have removed a plugin from my site but have been left with some pages it set up in the menu. How do I remove this?

Try to ask Site Support to help you to remove the data.

Thank you

Go to wordpress.org and find the support forum for the plugin that's causing the problem.

Thanks, now waiting for response

When you are at the Wordpress page, choose "plugin" from the list of options on the left hand side, after choosing "installed plugins" you will be directed to a page with plugins you've installed. Just choose that you would like to "deactivate".

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have done that but unfortunately I've been left with data which I can't find a way to remove
