What is an API Key?
Good day to you all :) Today I like to give you a little insight about API keys.
What is an API-Key?
An application programming interface (API) is a collection of definitions on the basis of which a computer program can communicate with another program or component.
An API key is an abbriviation of Application Programming Interface. It is a code used by computer programs that call our API to identify the used program. API keys prevent malicious use. It is a unique identifier for verification. The user of an API-key gets often special rights too.
Een Api-key is working through a webfleet.connect account. It simplifies access to Webfleet.connect. You do not have to have an account with Webfleet.connect yourself, the company you work with has an account there. They ensure that you get access rights.
Nowadays people use data through different networks, geographical areas and devices. Web applications are used every day to shop, order food, check the weather, read the news or communicate with friends and family.
How can these applications enable users to use data from different applications with different devices around the world? How do the data come from one place to another? In most situations the answer is: they use APIs to communicate.
An application that communicates with the database via an API is often called a client. An API can easily be secured by means of a password. This is called an API key.
To put it simple
An API ensures that different systems can communicate well with each other and works with a password, in this case called KEY.
Enjoy your day:)
