See through the happy hashtags of Social Media

You are having an off day and you are going to surf your Social Media sites. Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.

How depressing that can be!

The happy #hashtags are flying around your ears... and you.... you are looking at a pile of laundry and the sink full of dirty dishes.

See through the happy #hashtags of Social Media.

Your friends are

  • Camping with a van in the bush
  • Hang gliding above the South of Africa
  • Bbq-ing with lots of friends
  • Biking in the mountains
  • Canoeing on the Amazon river
  • Having a tour in Tibet
  • Visiting Disneyland with the whole family
  • Displaying their financial successes
  • ...

What they are not telling you is their life story behind those pictures.

  • The doctor just told him about his blatter cancer
  • This is probably the last Bbq because she lost her job
  • After a terrible fight and operations against breast cancer, they bought a van
  • They lost all 4 parents last year and decided to get free from it on the Amazon
  • They worked 80 hours a week to gain financial success
  • ...

Happy #hashtags with pictures does not mean their lives are happy all together. Every house has its cross to wear.

Enjoy your life as it's presented to you!

Enjoy the hug of your grandchild. The cup of tea in your garden. Enjoy the daily call from your mom (you still got her), and the buzzing bees on the beautiful flower. Enjoy the little breeze on a hot summer day and your spouse cooking dinner.

Enjoy your life, even when it has nothing in common with the happy #hashtag pictures which are floating over your laptop screen. You know in your heart, you wouldn't want to trade your life for theirs.

Your friends really need to have this break!

Enjoy your day!

Always have to consider under the covers. Core feelings advertise themselves without any Twitter hashtag showcasing!
Thanks for the great perception Loes!

That's right, thanks Michael:)

Thanks.

You're welcome John:)

Loes, my wife always says, "people only show you what they want you to see - so don't make assumptions"

Your wife is right:)

hi Loes, you are so right. Irv.

Thanks Irv.:)

You are so right about this Loes. I used to get so annoyed with people who are always posting about their amazing vacations and summer soirees until I realized that of course their lives aren't perfect. Comparing ourselves to others is useless and we all should count our many blessings instead.

That's right, I just read a story in a magazine about author and Google topman Mo Gawdat, he lost his son (21) during a routine surgery. He has a top income, that he has, but he lost his son.

You are exactly right!! Never assume anything and always enjoy the small things in life!!

When you see that, you are a blessed person:)

You wrote this post out beautifully, Loes...and you are so right.

Thank you James:) Much appreciate your reply:)

It is the little things in life that makes us happy. I have learned to be grateful for them. :). As for social media postings, it's like Kaju said, it's been proven that people tend to be less social and less happy because they're comparing their lives with everyone else's. We do have to learn to see through those posts for what they are... Thanks for the post Loes!!

Every person has his own cross to wear, those are not displayed on the internet

#swimming in the Adriatic sea this week.

Think one second of me while swimming:))

That is so true Loes.

People only show their BEST moments on social media. And because of this, too many others on social media think their lives are dreadful by comparison and this causes depression.

It is proven that social media has made our lives unhappier. Its for this reason, we think we can never measure up to our friends lives. But it is all a myth.

This is why I stay away from "social" media much of the time, unless I am using it for business.

That's right, only the best shots are shared. Take a profile selfie of your self, and you need 100 shots to pick out one reasonable one to share. That's how it's on Social Media too
