Should I be doing extra steps to build out my site?

Hi Linda
Yes follow the training but go at your own speed, use your common sense and if you feel you are not ready to create any meaningful content then do not do it.
Concentrate on creating your About Me Page and your Privacy Policy and Disclosure.
You do not have to Publish anything including those I mentioned.
You are the BOSS Linda and as I said go at your own pace and don't publish anything until you are absolutely ready to do so.
You get stuck, you get in touch but remember the time difference if you want a quick reply.

I'm trying to put together my first content article for my site and I'm having problems knowing how much to include. I get to about 800 words and then while shooting for 1,000
A post should last until you have finished what you wanted to say.
If you then find you have too many words then break it down into smaller parts and do part 1 part 2 etc.
The minimum is probably around the 750 words mark, but you may get a lower word count indexed if the information is useful as far as Google is concerned.
Derek
I have written a 500 words post, run out of ideas to say but went ahead to publish and it still got indexed by google.
Hi Linda- I have written over 100 posts now and each one is different from the next
Some are 1500, 1000, 856, and one which is indexed is only 734 so I think we should write until we have finished and published. This way we do not fill our posts with stuff just for the sake of it and I am sure all our visitors to the site will feel the same way and will appreciate the honesty in your writing
All the best
Vicki
Great information Vicki. I don't know why I fixated on 1000. Trying to do things right, but it just wasn't working. I was having to use fill or go in a direction that would take another whole post.I'm so glad I asked. I got such good advice from people who actually know what they're doing. It's great to know we can be flexible and just say what we need to say without trying to fit it into a preset mold. It feels much more natural that way. I feel so much better about this. thank you so much for taking the time to post this answer. (And to everyone else who responded!) Very, very helpful.
Wow, awesome insight here. Can't thank you all enough. It's reassuring to get input from people who do!
I aim for 1000 words. Sometimes I can say what I want with fewer words and sometimes it takes more. Most of my posts average 1000 words, though. If you find that you can't write more than 800 without being repetitive, though, stick with the 800 for that post.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Karin :)
The goal of 1,000 words is simply a goal. The objective is the content you produce. If you were to write 4,000 words that is just rambling and 800 words that is insightful and engaging, people would gravitate strongly towards the smaller post. It isn't necessarily the word count, but rather the message behind the words.
Try making an outline of your post and then write for each headline. This might help you.

Couldn't say it any better Jerry.
I will use your idea. I sometimes get lost as to how I'm gonna
end it. This is the solution. Thanks!

I know you given up Jerry, but I have not done any of your dishes, been crazy busy. I told my wife about your recipes.
I guess when you least expect it I will pm you about it.
Sorry, my brother!
