Procrastination is my middle name
Procrastination is my middle name,
I tell myself I’m taking time to do things properly or I have to think about something a little longer before coming to a decision. If anyone asks, I was just going to do it!
I ask myself ‘but What if...’ What if it’s all wrong, What if I make a complete fool of myself if I ask a question, What if everyone else but me can do this, good thing not everyone thinks this way, nothing in the world would get done.
I am getting on with my website, I have read, listened to videos and completed quite a lot of the steps required to bring my website to fruition...and yet...
Here I am writing about it, procrastinating again.
Earlier this week I felt a little deflated...what on Earth am I going to write about?
Well today alone just from unconnected conversations with my clients I had ideas for at least 8 blogs, that doesn’t sound a lot probably to some of you but I think it’s pretty good and those little kernels of thought boosted my confidence.
Amazing how it all suddenly seems better.
I am not a techie..is that even the right word?
Building my website is challenging me in totally different ways to what I am used to.
I get frustrated easily but I’m learning a lot and this evening while it’s quiet and I can concentrate I will complete the next stage and then the next and so on...
But let me just open this bottle of wine first...

I believe it is a very common issue for a lot of people. I had the same problem as well. It all because of thinking too much.
I still have a little bit of a hard time to make a decision, sometimes.
Especially, my son is more like me, when he has to make some long term decisions. I would immediately give him the advice of don't think too much. Meanwhile, I'm doing the same thing, think too much!
The change started the day I joined WA. What I did was to set a daily goal and a long term goal. It worked for me. I am much better now and more productive.
What I learned was, just do it, stop thinking too much.
It must be a little overwhelmed in the beginning. Everybody is going through the same stage. You will be fine and soon feel better when you follow the training and write more.

I admit that I was overwhelmed at the start by all the training and trying to put it into action. I found that if I do each step on my website build...then watch the next bit of the video and action the next step...it make more sense for me that way.

Like you said, concentrating on the next steps is best for all of us who procrastinate. And the best news is when we do just that, it keeps us moving forward. It may not seem like we take big leaps but we for sure take each step with confidence.

You don't have to be a techie lol, if you get any ideas make a note of them either write them down or make note on your mobile.
Stop thinking about the "What If's" focus on the "I Can's".
Keep things simple and do something daily it doesn't matter what, for example writing for some isn't easy, So write 50 words, then do the same the next day and so on.
Break everything down into easier stages that way you won't get overwhelmed.

Luckily I can write, its just sometimes I don't know where to start, once I get going I write reams, I write poetry too!
I always make notes, I have to or I forget my thoughts, maybe thats because of the wine lol.

We share the same middle name lol I am with you, I feel frustrated all the time when I work on my site because I am not a techie.
I am a people person, put me to a client, I’ll talk his ears out and make him buy something lol
Do you know what the best part is? You are aware of your procrastination though :) as long as we are aware of it, we will be just fine. I might take us a little longer but we are ok. We need to ease into it instead of just jumping in the cold water.
Let me have a glass of wine as well before I start writing lol

You are absolutely not alone, Louise. Many, many new members at WA have little or no technical experience (we included) and unless you are a truly natural writer, getting started with the writing is usually a challenge also. The good news is that all this does get easier. Just be patient (and don't forget the wine).
