History in the making
I will keep it short today the UK awoke to the news we are leaving the EU a big step and a lengthy process.
Seems a country divided however it is my hope that not matter what we voted for that we as a nation will come together and work out all the changes to help move forward.

United communities make for a stronger community much like WA working to achieve a better future, learn and grow.
Wish everyone a happy weekend and hope you are all progress towards your goals

Have a great weekend, too, Katie. I hope the fallout from Brexit isn't as severe as it could very well be. All we can do is hope for the best. It's going to take some time for things to settle one way or another. Hopefully not too much time and equally as hopeful it all works out okay. I'm choosing to be optimistic.
there is always concern when change comes around however we will get through it we have a history of up's and downs and we still come on
Living in the US I really don't want to comment on the decision itself. That is really for the people of the UK. I doesn't effect us much here except that our stock market is taking a beating today. I'm sure that is a short term reaction and will right itself soon.
What I would say is that the people of the UK have survived upset and division many times throughout history and I am sure you will get through this as well.
I hope the short term pain and turmoil will bring you all long term prosperity and a greater unity.
Tom
That we will Tom and I am certain the stock market will level out, whilst it is daunting for many change does not mean negativity we are survivors and it will work out once the panick settles life will go on and we can work together no matter what the vote and get the country where it needs to be. coming out the comfort zone is never easy we learn that here at WA.. have a good weekend and thank you for commenting
Yes - I couldn't believe this when I woke up this morning. We have a deeply divided nation. Only now Scotland has just said there will be another Independence referendum, Sinn Fein are now calling for Border Posts to be put up in Northern Ireland is it will be the only land border between the UK an the EU.
Quite sure, a step like this will have a great impact on future developments, the first anti-Europe Dutchman are standing on the barricades right away, to order a referendum in the Netherlands too. The Netherlands is THE transit country for all European countries that are landlocked, we would create a catastrophe when we leave
lol Loes we can all run our own affairs and maintain good relationships with europe, my word Loes are you all thinking of being a rebel lol
I know we can, but will it benefit us? I know for sure, when we get out of the EU, France will be at the frontline to take over all harbor income from Rotterdam per example. They are trying to undermine our airports already. That's the big example that Europe isn't one by long
Do you think your country will leave then Loes ? always difficult to unite nations with different cultures and different idea's of how it should be.. hope the new grandson of yours is doing well
I have not really been following the debate even though I am English. However, I now live in Australia so there is not much news here apart from local news - accidents, murders etc. Australia does not seem to have a great international news coverage!
I remember when England joined the EU and most people were against it then. I don't really believe that this EU business has really helped Europe as a whole. There has really been no basic cooperation and no real trade or political unity.
I am sorry that David Cameron has decided to resign. As I said, I only have local news here and there is an election going on at the moment. Again a bunch of weirdos only after their own self satisfaction.
I am not into politics really anymore but I do actually think that David Cameron is a genuine guy. I am not too sure about Boris Johnston.
I think that Britain will survive but, again, it is important to be united. There is no point i Scotland or Wales leaving Britain - economically and politically. Our battles go back to the 15th century t- a long time ago. Great Britain is rather like a marriage - maybe you have made the wrong decision but you do need to stick together!1
lol I agree I have family in England, Ireland and Wales and I do feel we can do just fine , have a good weekend
I agree Katie I hope for the same, I'm feeling sad today for the future, crashing pound, Cameron stepping down, cries for Scottish and Irish independence, not sure our country has made the right decision here but as you say now its done we have to get on with it and pray we can stay united and make this work for our kids sake. Interestingly the majority of our younger generation voted to stay!
I looked at both sides, did my research and made my decision and I am sad that David Cameron cannot see how we can build up the UK we did great when we were part of the commonwealth so why can we not have good relationships with our neighbours to benefit our people
Thats right Tracy, and `i think it was the duty of older people to take into consideration what the younger members of their family wanted, especially those just too young to vote. They will be affected by what happens in the future far more than the older generation. We all had long discussions in our family, and we all voted the same way for that very reason.
Interesting in the Republic of Ireland we have worked so hard to reduce borders with Northern Ireland and facilitate trade and travel between the two countries. Now there is potentially a further divide?
I know in Ireland without the intervention of EU employment, equality and environment laws there would have continued to be massive exploitation of workers and the environment.
Having lived in various locations in England I can understand why they want to come away there is massive unemployment, poverty and large areas that cannot cope with the shear number of people,, if we all work together it can be worked out
Yes, much good has come out of the EU in those areas, but in the campaigns it seemed as though no one bothered to mention them.
always the way Chrissie however the sad thing is we have many area's in our country that feel no one cares, and they cannot cope with all the extra people, funding is constantly being cut and services that matter are not being met.. When the common market started in the 70's it was about trading agreements over the years it has gotten away from that and we are being made to do things that keep adding pressures onto the communities I am sure we will still have good relationships with our European neighbours.. and changes is needed not just for us but for other communities
Don't like to get into political discussions but as an outsider I believe leaving the EU will benefit the UK longterm. Lot of struggles to start with but eventually you will be back in control of your own destiny. Just my opinion. Whatever happens I hope everything settles quickly for the sake of the British people. Cheers Kev
I think it will benefit us in the long term we have survived worst and we will do fine that is what I feel, thanks for your input and I am with you I do not like politics, I like usa's take " for the people by the people" and put our own people first then help others out, we have area's of mass unemployment, poverty and lack of care for our elderly
Hi Cathy - looks like the majority in Scotland (all regions anyway, and most of the people) wanted to stay - so I see another independence referendum happening soon, and depending how that goes, Scotland possibly looking to re-join the EU.
Wish we could have one big world nation - without all of the politics and other factors that segregate us from each other.
All the best, Mark
we would have been part of the EU still if they would have been supportive of what the UK needed, we are a small country and having lived in high density populated area's around England I know the way the government has not risen to help build communities and industries, I personally do not want another referendum anytime soon and I cannot see the point of Scotland saying they want independence then being subject to the politics and laws of another nation.. independence means just that in charge and controlling your own affairs.. I really do not like politics.. have a good weekend Mark
I know - I hate politics - you never know who is genuine, and who is spinning something for their own agenda. Watching commons debates is worse than most school playgrounds, and you (I) really wonder what these people are really doing for us.
I'm sure there are the ones working away behind the scenes, not seeking the limelight, that have all our best interests at heart - without all the theatrical nonsense that is the face of politics.
Would be nice for every country to run its own affairs, and treat every other country as you would a person living in your street. One big community. You let who you want in to your house - but you wouldn't see a neighbour down on their luck, without trying to help them.
Cheers Cathy,
Mark
I agree Mark we can all work in partnership with our neighbours without running their lives.. we need good investment in our country for the future of the children and good skills and if we are having people move here it needs to be the same rule for everyone wanting to work and live here

Things can't stay the way they are. Some people will know this others not so much.
Hanging on old traditions (even hiding behind it) sometimes isn't the way to go.
But, we have to make the best out of it. As a former European lol, I once thought of a strong united Europe, even with one government, like the U.S..
But, Europe is an old one. The countries have thousands of years of making and culture, in comparison to Canada and the U.S.
Each country sees itself as one first, before as the "One" country/ continent in an EU sense.
I think, the EU has gone under and you can see it in how the Refugee crisis was handled, shameful to say the least.
My concern though is, will this referendum have a ripple effect?
Do you think Katie, Scotland will try it again to leave the U.K.?
We certainly do live in some exciting times, only the same will tell it. :)
