What in IM scares you most?

I was doing some thinking (dangerous I know) and thought back to when I first started here over a year ago now.

I was pretty much scared of everything to do with Internet Marketing, not the building of the websites part, but everything else.

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of things another curved ball would come flying my way.

But you know what really floored me? List building. Yes, those words terrified me. Once I'd discovered what an actual list was, and why I needed one I was stumped.

So many options, figuring out what an auto-responder was, follow up series, broadcasting, re targeting, op-tins, traffic, pop-ups, it scared the c**p out of me!

What on earth could I offer that would have people wanting to subscribe to that "list".

Little by little the pieces started coming together with more than a few tears of frustration along the way. I stamped my feet often! My late hubby always said I "wis like a dug wi a bone", I was determined not to let the fear overwhelm me.

I think I've got the bits figured out now, am still learning but am no longer terrified.

The reason I'm writing this is to ask if anyone else has felt the same. What is the biggest thing that scared or still scares you the most on this journey? If you've overcome it, how did you do it?

Those darned ' what ifs' ..my little horde of nagging you're going to fail in the long run gremlins....what I have learned is I can only fail if I allow it.

I think the word failure should be banned. There's no such thing, it's a comparison word. It's a learning experience that you keep tweaking till you get something you're happy with. ;)

I am scared of conversions... I have 90 unique visitor, organic search but none entered my affiliate links so far!

It will come Stefan!

Hi Kathy
Social media still scares me, everything else l can deal with in time but social media just confuse me.
Of course there are more areas but SM is my weakest area.

Are you doing anything to help with the social media aspect?
I'm a long time member of Facebook but the others have been a real challenge.
I decided to do one at a time and am still trying to get to grips with G+.
Twitter was a real challenge, trying to write such short "tweet" and I don't really bother so much with it now. I wasn't getting traffic to my sites through Twitter so decided my time was better spent trying other social media. :)

What scare me the most is all the ad-block apps.

good point!

Yes, good point Marith!

Building a website, learning the keyword thing, and about everything else, failure too. Haven't even gotten to a list yet and I've been here awhile. Some of this is getting easier, but I'm still working at it. Don't want to quit. :)

What do find helps the most Judy, the thing that stops you from quitting?

I think it's reading others success, that it worked for them, it should work for me too if I don't give up. There's a lot of encouragement going on here as well. :)

That's it Judy, and what makes this should a good environment for learning. :)

Can relate to that Kathy the whole thing scared me as it was so different from anything I have ever done, and the list thing still gives me the hebe gebe's but I am working toward it for I know it is something we all need to do at some point, think we have been here about the same amount of time and despite the up's and down's I am glad I stayed and I am progressing

Yes, we've been travelling this journey together Katie, I'm getting on well with the list building now. :)

that is great have not started one yet but no rush I am behind due to a few challenges glad its going well for you

I was real scared of writing. Every time I wrote I was always kind of like "I wonder if I should press publish."

My english really sucked at the time. And everything I wrote only had 300 words or less. hehe

Now I'm good. I'm pretty sure I'm at least 20x better at creating blog content. :P

I remember you being here when I started, I agree your English is very good now!

@JSakanee - if you need help with English, I've set up my website to help those in WA specifically. Let me know if you need assistance.

Figuring out what an auto-responder is, follow up series, broadcasting, re targeting, op-tins, email marketing still scares the c**p out of me!

I just don't understand programs as Aweber etc. they might as well talk arabic

Is it something you'd like to understand?

:)yeahyeah that re: I was asking for:) at the moment, not really, just focussing on content right now

Hi Kathy I am most scared of writing a blog, English is my second language and I make so many mistakes when I think in french(can not just be translated) So content is me as the barbecue...

Ah, that's a hard one, I think Loes can identify with that one, I know she uses a translator. Have you used anything like that? https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/loes

@Daniel - have you seen my site, it's setup specifically for people like you. So take a look and let me know if you need any further help.

Hi! I am also scared of almost everything but at the same time it is really fun and exiting. I think I'm most afraid that I will fail, that no one will like my pages

I know what you mean, the fear, then the excitement, especially when something goes right!
