I've recently been taken to the woodshed for too many plugins, so i'm looking for opportunities to remove them. I've been using the All In One Favicon plugin but it seems like

No sure if that would help you for what you are looking for, but I send it to you anyway. this article shows how to do it, not sure if it talks about a plugin. It's worth a shot.

Yes. Not difficult to do. Just need to upload your favicon using FTP. Then add a small bit of code to the theme header to tell it to display it.
