Hey everyone. Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for additional learning/reading/training on affiliate and or internet marketing? I know I can google it, and I have, b

Hey Jason, WA has a lot of training and post which are very helpful. Not sure what you need. :)

But if you are promoting WA, here are some ideas and tips : If you are looking for writing tips and ideas, this may be good :

On the WA Dashboard, on the very top where there is the magnifying glass on the left and on the right side is a star, in between of those two icons, you type in anything you want to know and a selection will come up, you can find many topics there that maybe of interest to you.

Thanks. I search there often.

Welcome

It depends what topic you want to look at :)

Really Just looking for additional Learning Jude. I have been searching for things on additional ways to learn affiliate marketing and internet Marketing and Such. I am happy where my site is so early on and I am learning a lot here at WA. Just feel like I am missing something if that makes sense. I follow Pat Flynn but there's only so much time in the day to listen to podcasts and be productive.

My problem is I do not have a Marketers Mind, I have a Salesman mind. I know they are similar but also drastically different.

I can sell pretty much anything face to face. Its much different putting it to paper though.

I recommend reading Jon Snow's blogging blog.

Will check it out. Thank you sir

I have been racking my brain all day trying to speed up the load time of my website. Followed every how to and training out there. Does anyone know if premium versions load fas

The quickest ways to get your site to load is to have two plugins which you only activate when using and they are: WP cleanup and WP fastest cache.

Also use https://tools.pingdom.com/ to test your site speed then adjust the images that are taking the longest to load or affiliate links such as Amazon.

These plugins have helped me gain great site speed, just activate them when you use them to minimize the plugins on your site as that hurts speed as well.

I have optimize all images and everything else is good. Seems my hangups according to pingdom are these. Everything is is an A

GRADE SUGGESTION
F-24 Combine external JavaScript
D-68 Minimize DNS lookups
C-75 Minimize request size

Cool, glad it helped.

Those plugins are helpful as well but that's up to you.

Need to figure out the above issues. They have been the hang up the whole time.

Hi M8!

Directly to the question: I do not think it makes a difference whether or not the theme is premium, as a matter of fact, you will have more features with the premium theme, which may be even slower...

The host you are using will make a difference...I would ask them for advice on how to speed the loading times....Depending on the level service you have and what you have on your site, you may need to upgrade...

There are things on your theme you could do too that would help too like minimizing sizes of your pictures (there is a plugin for that), using a WP cache (helps load pages used often faster), and getting rid of any plugin you do not need, turning off any shortcodes you do not use, etc...

Also, you could look at some kind of CSS tool/plugin that would minimize the coding size of your pages so they load faster...Check also where you are storing your videos and other external files...This might be slowing you down (i.e. I was using dropbox but found that it slowed things down)...

If you have a lot of files for download that may have an affect on the loading times/download times....You might consider setting up an S3 account with AWS (it is free)....That way everything could be stored together...Also, you could back up any YT videos because you never know when they will block your account...

Lastly, I would do a Google search and see what other smart folks advise, there are likely many more hints and tips that will help....

Good luck!

Dave

Hey Dave!
Yeah I went through all of that as well as Marcus' training here.. It dramatically slowed my speed rather than speeding it up so now I am back to square one trying to hammer it all out.

Not that I'm aware of, in fact, since a lot of them have way more features they are even slower at times.

That's what I figured but had to ask. My site is ungodly slow lol

Have you looked at one of the sites that tell you why?

Yeah I have been using GTmetrix all day. one minute its 20 seconds, next its high 4's. I followed a training by Marcus to a tee and it made it 10 times slower. Added Cache plugin, makes slower. Keeps talking about enabling GZiP Compression which I have on different plugins as I test them and that gets me nowhere either. I suspect it's from Amazon native ads but no idea how to compress those.

Go to pingdom.com and run their speed test, then go to google here https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/rules to fix things.

Although I love my current website, and will keep it around, I realize that it is really broad. So I am debating cutting it down. Here's my question. When working with keywords

How broad, exactly? Semi broad is okay as long as you plan on adding to the site continually in the long term.

As far as keyword usage... I'd recommend watching a few webinars. Start with this one: Go to Live Video Classes and search for "SEO" and "Keywords." That is some great, in-depth training.

Granted, that training is a little more advanced. If you haven't finished the basic training here at WA, click on "Get Started Here" and do that first.

It's a singular sport themed website. Ihave done reviews on products, posts on how to choose equipment, etc. Feel like I need to drill it down to one thing but I could easily do a page based off of each. Figured I'd get more keyword rankings with multiples but monetization is really more toward the product reviews I think.

If it's just "sport theme" then yeah, it's too broad. Making specifically about sporting equipment or a particular sport would be much better. Reviews are key to your monetization here, yes.

Guess I should've clarified more. It is based on one sport. Within it I focus on coaching tips and drills, training equipment (reviews) and so on. I am doing a "series" on drills focusing on one aspect of the sport to learn. That is when I started to wonder about the keyword side. Basically would have 10-20 posts of drills covering just that one aspect. Each additional aspect I will cover with drills will have similar amounts. Hope that makes sense.

Eh, I think that's fine. It sounds like you have some good plans for content, which is exactly what you need. As long as you have a good way of linking to your reviews from your other pages, I don't see an issue

From a content point of view I will have a boat load. Each aspect of drills is actually a Great Keyword Phrase based off of research. Which is where My question lies. I know the basics of keyword usage, I think I am just over thinking it. The name of the page within the site will be the actual keyword. Then each post will be titled with that keyword phrase and an add on of the name of the drill? Thats where I am struggling

Thanks Marion. I ended up having to deal directly with google. As I thought, the redirect was causing issues with the verification process. It's all squared away now. Thanks.

The one basic reason is that it takes 48 hours for google to verify a new domain so if it is 48 hours already, check all your settings and entered it correctly, sometimes a typo error can be the reason.

Yeah it's been two weeks. All info is correct. Had no problem setting up the Analytics side of things. Just can't get webmaster verified. Wondering if it has something to do with the redirect.

The short answer is yes Jason.

It will take the google bots a while to catch on to the move but they will get there.

I was hesitant due to the dual content issue since I am not deleting the other domain as of yet. of course it was indexed within seconds of the move so no concern there. More concerned about losing the rankings I already have but i guess in the end it won't matter since I am not deleting the old one yet and it has auto redirect. Thanks

Yes Jason you are absolutely correct do not delete the old domain. There is no need too. Leaving it in place would be the best bet

and of course, it will not allow me to verify through webmaster tools for the new domain name after setting up new analytics. One of those days ha ha

I was told that it didn't matter if I did it:(. I noticed that Kyle talked about it in the tutorial. I guess I need to back and do it. Thanks so much for asking the question:)

Yes, you will need to go back through the same steps as you did in the original and create a new Analytics report and number.

Paul

I figured as much. indexing the new site won't effect rankings will it?

It depends on if Google search engines see it is a new website or if you or redirecting it to a change? No much help, but it will probably take a hit as the name will change.

Best of luck.
