Verify Your Website With Google Search Console Using Yoast SEO

The easiest way to verify your website with Google Search Console/Google Webmaster Tools is with the built-in feature of your SEO plugin.

This quick little video shows how to verify your website the simplest way.

Thank you for watching.

As always I'm here to help you,

P.S. If you have All In One SEO then the video for that is at Google Verification Using All In One SEO

Hi Marion. I'm still struggling with Google analytics so thank you Marion for this training.

One question, I had verified my website earlier when it was http. However, more than a month ago, I activated SSL and it became https and since then, I'm having problems with Google analytics, actually ongoing problems. I think this is the reason, correct me if I'm wrong.

I've just added another property which is my website with https but all my posts and pages which were indexed already by Google, will they be affected? Do I have to use fetch as Google again?

Many thanks in advance for your help.
Mona

Google wants you to add all four versions of your website:
http://
https://
http://www
https://www
Then you'll get a message asking you to choose which version you want to appear in the search engine results. Choose the httpS version without the www.

From then on, only use the chosen version when you submit your sitemap and Fetch as Google.

Your indexed posts and pages should not be affected as your site should automatically redirect to the https version.

Yes, resubmit your sitemap and do a Fetch as Google for your httpS version of your website.

Hi Marion,

Yes I did it before on my other site with all in one SEO but now i am working with Yoast seems much more complicated. Any other method if I don't want to add a plugin ( child theme ) or use the Filezila ( FTP method) ?

Do you know where I can access the home page editing as recommended by Google? Here is the screenshot but I don't know where is this editing of home page..

Thanks a lot!

Google needs you to keep your website verified even after you verify it the first time. If you place the code in the <head> then it will get overwritten the next time your theme is updated.

There are 3 methods you can use to make the verification permanent and I've done videos on all of them. Sorry that's all I know.

Marion, i have already verified my site with ALL IN ONE SEO. Now i have switched to Yoast today.

Do i have to verify Google Verification again using Yoast SEO, if i have already done that with ALL IN ONE SEO?

Thanks.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Usually Yoast finds the AIO settings so you shouldn't need to re-verify. Check into Search Console in a couple of days just to make sure you're still verified.

Marion,
I have 2 sites they are both verified but I can go no further.
When I try to get my sitemap I always get this. I have read so many tutorials and seen many videos. Still can't find how to get this done.
I have used All in One and Google Sitemaps plugins.
I am afraid to try Yoast since I do have them verified.
It is interesting one is through Google Analytics and one is verified through HTML Tag. Then this is what I get every time:

Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

Please help me.
Bobby

What is the URL for your sitemap? It should be yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml or yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml

If it's dot HTML then it's the wrong format.

I'm sorry, but I think I did something wrong. I got the congratulations that the website was verified, but I'm concerned.

I added the Yoast SEO plugin and activated it and deactivated the SEO All in One and XML Sitemaps plugins. I followed all the steps in the video.

However, when I check the Google Search Console it tells me I have no data? It also tells me I have no sitemap for this website. It's been 5 hours now and nothing. Should I have a sitemap for my website?

Please Help!

MarionBlack Premium
The instructions for verifying using the All In One SEO plugin are at To enable sitemaps in Yoast go to SEO > XML Sitemaps, Enable and save the changes.

I need help! When I go into the SEO General Settings I don’t see a Webmaster Tools Tab or a Google Search Console section. The only thing I see under Webmaster Verification is the Google Webmaster Tools. It states Enter your verification code here to verify your site with Google Webmaster Tools

I look down below and I think I'm suppose to be downloading the Yoast SEO plugin and deactivate the All In One SEO Pack?

I did yeah, but hey Marion, the user interface has changed with gwt. They've swapped stuff about a bit and it's in a different layout.

An updated video, perhaps?

take a look at what they swapped.

The html tag is now under the first tab instead of the second.

Threw me out for a few minutes I was scratching my head.

Got there tho!

Hi marion,

Thanks for this tutorial. I was struggling with this. I managed to do it for Google but do you know how to do it with Bing Master Tool?

I tried to follow he same instructions and added a new website and a sitemap I already had. Tried with a new one but it keeps on showing me a dashboard with the site activity.

I can't find the code anywhere....

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Marion.

Is it "Yoast SEO" plugin by Team Yoast that you're using?

I already have "All In One SEO Pack" by Michael Torbert and "Google XML Sitemaps". I understand that I can or should deactivate "All In One SEO Pack". But will I need to deactivate XML Sitemaps, too?

If I install Yoast, will I have to start all over with Google/Bing Verification?

I'm trying to figure out the proper step-by-step instructions going from "All In One SEO Pack" to "Yoast SEO" (without messing up anything or missing a crucial step/action).

Thank you for the help. Nice video training. -Tina
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Yes it is Yoast SEO by Team Yoast. If you change over to Yoast you won't need the Sitemaps plugin so you can deactivate and delete both All in One and XML Sitemaps. As far as Google and Bing verification are concerned just paste the codes in the right spots and they'll find it you don't have to tell them to go look :)

Thank you for clarifying and explaining. It's a relief to know this may be a smoother transition than I thought. :)

MarionBlack: I tried everything, cursed, prayed, slandered, and told God I would go to Syria to fight ISIS (well maybe I would) if only I could get verified. This training using and HTML Tag worked!!! I only had to watch the video training five (5) times (I am a little to a lot slow) but the last time I touched the Verify Button God Google told me that my website ownership had been verified. You are the one! You are a knowledge monster. Thank you, thank you, thank you. DAN

It says the connection to my server timed out. I've had this issue before. Do you know why?
Reply
betcha Premium
This has been happening to me lately even when I just opened my computer. My thought, I need to buy a new computer or probably I need a clean up and defrag.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
It's possible that you're trying to connect to a very busy website. OR, you may need to turn your modem off for 15 seconds and turn it on again. OR, you may need to reboot your computer. The first thing I try is to connect to a different website. Then I use Ctrl+ Alt+ Delete to get into Task Manager and check the Performance tab. Either the CPU or the RAM could be maxed out, in which case a computer reboot is the only way to fix it.

I've noticed that having too many instances of Chrome or having Skype and/or other programs running the the background can cause performance problems.

Thanks for the tip. Marion. I'm really considering of buying a new one soon. But I will do whatever it takes to make it work well again.

"Server Timed Out" is a server error, meaning your hosting has reached the maximum of its allowed simultaneous connections.

This happens when too many people (or bots) are making too many requests to your server, especially if it is a shared hosting server which has limited number of allowed connections available to prevent the server from going down.

It has nothing to do with your computer, modem or internet connection.
The word "server" here says it all.

Hope it helps,
L
P.S.: When in doubt, Google for it.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Thanks Louie. This is the result I got from Google.
Reply
LouieLuc Premium
Precisely "network hardware error" meaning the "server". :))

Servers are simply computers (they might be more powerful than your personal computer or not -- I could use my own PC as a server).
I.e., "server" = "computer that serves / is serving on a network".

And theyre also connected through routers and use firewalls.

I occasionally see that issue on some of my sites and it's caused by some script making too many requests to the server. Some of scripts that I developed myself (and need fine-tuning).

Thanks Marion! This is excellent! I will utilize this tonight when I get a chance to work on my settings.
Does this just let Google know that we own the site or does it help with getting us found in searches quicker? (Apologies if you already addressed that and I missed it.)

Kyle's covered the explanation Google Search Console used to be called Google Webmaster Tools. And verifying recently got a whole lot easier with the updates to the SEO plugins.

Connecting Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools and my blog is one of the very first steps I take when I launch a new website.

Yes, there are tools there (on Google Webmaster Tools) that you can use so that Google crawls your entire site or just a selected page.
