Ditch your expectations - replace them with goals

I had a discussion the other day with a friend. He is not an entrepreneurial type, but that's ok. He holds a normal job that works well for him, but it's a job that would make me go crazy because there are no challenges, just routine.

We talked about the things I do online, and then he asked me; how much do you expect to earn?
That's when it hit me. About the huge difference in mindset between people. It's just an innocent word but it may make the whole difference in how you approach your online efforts here at WA.

So I told him that I don't expect to make anything.

To me, an expectation is a wait for something that will happen eventually, without me having to do much myself to achieve it. Something like if I want to take the bus to town. All I have to do is go to the bus stop and then I expect the bus to come.

Before entering this business we have all read about people who are successful and make money, some even a lot of money.

So if you start up here with the modest expectation of making even just a fraction of what the really successful people are making, you will most likely fail.

Why? Because you are waiting for the bus.

To succeed you have to set goals. On what you must learn, what you must build, and then on what you will earn.
A goal is committing, it requires engagement, dedication, and focus.
Having a goal is being offensive and active, having expectations is being defensive and passive.

Now you may say; yes I know that. I'm just saying expectation even if I know I have to put in some work.

Well, your subconscious is a treacherous companion. It will constantly remind you of the common definition of expectation, and tell you that now that you are at the WA bus stop, all you have to do is wait for the bus of money.

So define your goals and make very concrete plans on how to reach them

Excellent. Thanks a whole lot. I am beginning to look forward to your inspirational content on a daily basis. :)

David

Thanks for reading. We'll see how often I will publish - I need to get some work done as well :)

Great post J, thanks! I've been an entrepreneur for 20+ years and many of my friends still think I'm bat s#&t crazy! lol Meanwhile, they gripe about their jobs, their pay, when they can take vacation or tend to family events, etc. And I think, who's crazy??? My bride and I knew going into this venture that I may not make any money for the first 6-12 months. But we weighed that out with the true potential, I established goals and press on ahead. Thanks again for your post J!

Hey Bob you surf? Not a question pal just lookin' at your name.

Yes, you are correct. I'm looking ahead. I knew coming in for me this was gonna take time. 6-12 months? Never thought of that but I'll take that into consideration.

Good luck Bob! Hey ain't this guy J. something else? I look forward to his articles/blogs/posts whatever you can call it!

Mahalo!

Glad you've enjoyed it. I guess we all need to be a bit crazy to achieve our goals.

Hola brother, no surfing for me any longer. Truth be told I was never very good at it anyway! haha But 2 years ago I was nearly killed when a guy rear ended me at a red light, lifted me airborne and spun me into the oncoming highway, where I was rear ended again. God spared me from that for bigger and better, so onward I go. I still go out and swim and tread water, but no more board action for Bobby! :-) Peace my friend.

Hey Paul "crazy thoughts" are where all my ideas come from, don'tcha think?

Thanks for being there Paul!

Great post!

There really is nothing passive about being successful. Set your goals, dedicate yourself, and grind away!

Thanks

The only way to be go driven is goal driven!

Very well said :)

Thanks for this inspiring post.

Thanks for reading

Well said! Another reminder that the platform here at WA is not another get rich quick scheme, where you expect the money to start pouring in with little effort, just because you bought a high-end ticket and you invested heavily.

No, here is an affordable golden long-term opportunity that all of us can take advantage of, only if we follow it the proper way: by setting goals, going through the training and putting in the hard work :)

Good point Nicky! This is the first time I scrolled down and read any posts. I should do it more often.

Mahalo for being there!

Absolutely correct. Thank you Nicky :)
How's Thailand?

Thailand has been awesome but I'm back in Greece for the past few months! Preparing for the next adventure, plus I wanted to experience Christmas and New Year's with snow and cold and Christmas markets, since I spent the last 4 holidays in Asia's heat and humidity :)

I find expectations can sometimes set me up for failure..I hope and give it my all but don't expect.
Great post

Thanks

I was just writing content about "it doesn't work, if you don't".

"The subconscious ous a treacherous companion". Ain't that the truth!
Thanks for the post!
