About Genelda
Joined May 2018
Hi. My name is Genelda and I'm Deaf. I live in Arkansas, USA.

I use hearing aids for assistance, but still can't hear very well. You can call me Gina. I love gardening, animals, and writing, just to name a few.

I have an AS in Management Information Systems, but it's been hard to find a place to hire a Deaf person after I lost my other job when I got diagnosed with cancer. Not to worry, I'm a survivor. I beat it! :)

My goal is to make a decent, sustainable living online and make it to where I never have to worry about my disability getting in the way ever again. I love to help people and try to be morally supportive for others.

Hi Genelda, thank you for following me. I will be following you. You have an inspiring story for sure. I can relate somewhat. Since I had a hearing loss at age 5. I got to the point I could read lips. Then I had surgery and it was a process when I got my hearing back. Then at page 36 I had another hearing loss of my left ear. I think you would do well since WA can be very compatible to your challenge to help you reach your goals.

Best of success,
Jud

Hey Gina, thanks for the follow! I hired a guy a few years back that was deaf and used hearing aids for assistance so he could slightly hear. It was interesting. I found out I'm a "loud talker" so him and I became good friends. We're both in different jobs now, but we're in constant communication still. Great friends we've become and he's opened my eyes to disabilities in the workplace, that's for sure!

Cheers,

Dave

Hi! You're most welcome. Thanks for sharing that. Not many people have an opportunity to experience what it's like being around a Deaf person.

"Loud talker", eh? I don't know why but it made me grin from ear to ear. All the best!

Happy Saturday to you, Gina, my name is Ken and I welcome you to WA and I thank you for the follow. I'm following you back.
You know many people come here to learn about a better way to earning revenue, whether it is part time or full time employment. If you actually do what is taught in the lessons you will be successful. The amount of success is totally dependent on your niche and the amount of hard work you do in marketing your skills as an online marketer. I am one of these people. I'm looking to eventually replace my income with a work from home job instead of my current full time employment as a printer. My part time status is improving my skills and collecting monies, emails and friendships. As I age I see my potential gaining traction and looking forward to the day that I can retire for good.
I am wishing you much enjoyment and success in your online journey and helping you gain authenticity in your online journey.

Genelda,
I have come to visit your profile through you pushing the "follow" feature on my network. Thank you so much for this kind gesture, I welcome you to WA.

There are unlimited opportunities in a persons life to meet a challenge and stand to the test in victory...disposition is the quality that defines inner strength to overcome obstacles.

I sense that you are most capable of meeting any challenge you find worthy, your life seems a living example of it. This is is encouraging and I do hope that you will share your insight with us, going forward in writing your posts.

I have in my oldest brother Billy a remarkable relationship that has been made more valuable because we have never found his being deaf an obstacle. He is one of the kindest souls. I look to him for a humor strength and support in life.

I am grateful for one because of his difference and what that brought me in understanding others in culture and diversity.
There are many colors to our rainbow and I can't imagine living a life without.

To your pursuit sharing your passion I wish the best and encourage you... Shine Brilliant!

Respectfully

Hey Gina I can relate to being deaf almost. I wear hearing aids but I am getting worse. Some tones I just can not understand a lot of people hang up on me at work just because I have to ask them to repeat that. Gets old after awhile but I do my best . Good luck with WA....

Ah, mine is too. Declining in time...not gonna fret over it like I used to when I was younger. I had learned to accept and love myself for who I am. It was a struggle to come this far sometimes.

I do understand where you are coming from. I haven't even talked on a regular phone in years and occasionally I might just talk in the cell phone but someone else has to tell me what's being said on the other end unless I TEXT. Period.

Best of luck to you too! :)

Hi Gina. I'm a Doctor of Audiology and have been for 20 years. Hearing aid are wonderful devices. Here's wishing you the best. By the way I don't consider Deaf as a handicap...it's just a little more challenging. You can work through it..believe me. I've seen many of my patients move on to a very productive life. One patient is totally deaf and plays the violin in "tune."

Here is the best to you...just keep "positive."

Hi Bill. Agreed! I see it as a challenge to overcome when things try to get in the way.

That is great! I have tried to play the violin a few times, but rather play the guitar. I learned in high school by my music teacher to sing (in tune) by putting my hand on the piano to feel the vibrations. It's pretty neat.

I'm intrigued as to the niche you have chosen for a website. Is it related to hearing impairment?

Hi Gina
Thanks for adding me to your follow list, I've added you to mine as well. I also want to congratulate you for becoming a member of WA. That is a big step in making the decision to start your journey to become your own boss.

The investment is worth everything you put into as long as there is action. The more we take action to build our knowledge the closer we'll get to success.

I'm glad that you have overcome some heavy obstacles in your life. It's obvious that you're not a quitter from what I'ver read in your bio.

You sound like someone that could be a mentor or motivator to those who struggle with what you've experienced through your personal life. I truly believe that you can succeed once you find that direction of where you want to be.

The community here is amazing so you won't have to worry about not finding support in a timely manner. You will get help without a doubt.

If there is anything I can do to help I'd be glad to assist you in any way that I can. If I don't have the answer or you find that others don't have the answer, keep asking until you find someone that will help answer your question.

You also have the help of the founders of this awesome platform. They are present and supporting all members in the best way they can.

Here's a link from a member who offers some advice to most newcomers coming into WA. It's a good piece of advice and I share it with those who I know are new to WA. Before you do, go to the grey search box on top of the screen and type: @onmyownterms once you find him follow him as well if you haven't already done so.

Here's the post from OMOT: He's an experienced marketer and will help guide you in the right direction too.

Hi, Gina. Enjoyed reading your interesting profile. I had a friend in college who was deaf. She spoke with a bit of an accent that I now recognize as how the hearing impaired sound. I thought she was a foreign exchange student. She was amazing. I had no idea she was deaf until she told me.

Thanks for following me back. I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Carol. Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed the read. I speak "with a bit of an accent" as well.

It's interesting to me when I hear about how others meet a Deaf person. Not all of those have a good ending, but there's always a chance of a great friendship developing. An understanding if you will.

You're welcome and thanks for the follow back. I look forward to getting to know you, too.

The last time I saw Yvonne, she and her husband, who is also deaf (as a result of a car accident) were visiting us in St. Louis. We went to St. Flags Over MidAmerica, and they were conversing in sign language with people several feet away from us in line for one of the rides. She did not learn sign language until she went to the Kansas City area to attend Occupational Therapy Assistant school. KC has a large deaf community, and she became very active in it. The last I knew, she was an interpreter for the hymns at her church. I've lost track of her over the years because I've moved several times, but would love to know how she's doing.

Maybe you can find a way to track her down. I use ASL (American Sign Language) when I can and I do use my voice, too.

I have been around those areas. I used to attend workshops/meetings in the KC area and St. Louis, too.

This friend of yours, I wish I could meet! Well, you too. :)

Wouldn't it be great if I could find her and the three of us could have lunch together? I can't remember her last name, though. It's been at least 40 years since I left St. Louis, and the last time I saw her was before we moved to FL. I just remembered her maiden name. Maybe I could find her that way.

Or I might be able to find her by contacting the alumni office at McPherson College, where we went to school together. We both transferred, though, so don't know if they would have info on us or not.

Hopefully, you can find her. It sounds like you have a good start on how you are going to be locating Yvonne.

That sounds lovely. It would be awesome.

Good luck!

It would be. Where do you live? Maybe we could meet up 1/2 way somewhere, depending on where she lives. Carol

Hi Gina. Being deaf can be a hindrance and a curse but it can also be a blessing. I have a granddaughter that is 75% deaf but you would not know it except that she signs quite well for a 2 year old. She inspires me on a regular basis. I know that you will be able to do this. Follow the training and you will go far. Be patient with yourself if you don't understand something right away. We all go through this. If you have problems reach out to the community for help.

Welcome, Gina!

Although I am not deaf, I've been wearing hearing aides for almost 10 years now. It sometimes feels as if hearing loss is one of those forgotten disabilities.

How amazing that you were able to find Wealthy Affiliate to learn how to create a profitable online business. All the best to you, Gina!

Hi Gina

Welcome to WA - we are so happy to have you here! :-)

Here is a little trick on how to utilize other people's posts to earn commissions, while you are building your own website: We found that if we watch a video, pause, then do what Kyle has done, watch, pause and do again, it is almost like watching over Kyle's shoulder and before you know it, you'll be well on your way.

If there is anything that we can help you with, please feel free to give us a shout!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
