Have you ever had one of those days?!

I've just had one of those days!

One of those "I want to scream at my computer and throw it at the wall, days!!"

So this morning, I wrote my accountability comment on the SWAG post about how pleased I was with the design of my site and the front page and how it all tied in with my logo, etc, etc, and I was genuinely pleased with all the back stage (that's my actor coming out, darling!) work and design work I had done recently to brand my site and the elements on it.

I have been working on creating a static front page as recommended by Jerry in a recent training, which then linked off to all my content neatly.

I designed 12 icons in Canva and was really pleased with them.

The next thing I know is that my theme seems to be misbehaving and my lovely static front page will now only show part of my content.

I think, I research. I panic.

After a few hours, I work out that if I want the front page content to work, then I have to settle to having all of my blog rolls showing the full posts instead of an excerpt. OR, I can have the blog rolls showing the excerpt but the front page also only showing 100 words!!

So I diligently research CSS, Templates, FTP solutions and still to no avail.

Now I'm looking into purchasing a premium theme instead but that it nerve-wracking as I've had issues when changing themes before.

And to top it all, in my annoyance and frustration, (probably because of them) I've just had a 2 hour tantrum from my daughter because I won't buy her the iphone 6 she wants for her birthday!!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

OK, that's better,

I'm calm, I'm calm, She's calm, We're both

VERY CALM!! CAN'T YOU SEE HOW CALM WE ARE?!

Tick, tock, tick, tock,,,,,,,,,

So finally, both children tucked up in bed, I look around for another free theme that might help and luckily I found and previewed a new one which also solved my header problem from 2 days ago as well.

Thank heaven for Treville!

Now I have a site with all the content on the static front page, blog rolls that show excerpts and it's still nicely branded throughout.

HOORAY!!

AND, I've learned what CSS stands for on the way!

It is now 3.50am so I need to go to bed, but at least I've finished the day less frustrated and I can leave my site, feeling proud.

Tomorrow has got to be better, right?

Glad you've found a good new theme, I know how frustrating it can be, this week, on my latest post, all headings turned spontaniously into links, leading nowhere, I removed de links with the unlink button, updated the post, and they where there again, I removed them in the text editor, updated, and they where back again, quite a puzzle, for some dark reason, I discovered some weird coding, removed it, and everything was ok again, well we are talking about 3 hours through the drain, for looking and searching on Google and deleting those links

Sorry to hear of your frustrations too. I guess we just have to get used to it sometimes. It's still better than being stuck in traffic for 3 hours a day trying to get to work for someone else!! :)
Hope you have a more fruitful time today. Gail

Haha, yes there you're right!

Great story of perseverance and victory, Gail. You made me proud as usual :). There will always be success waiting for you at the end of a struggle.

David

Thanks David. I've come out the other side and I'm still smiling - tired, but smiling! :)

Be happy I'm having one of those YEARS!
And since my theme is Hiero, I'm thinking of changing it. Not sure if this is worth all the work.

I'm not happy that you are having one of those years, but I'm happy that it was only a day for me! Themes are tricky things, I'm discovering and I think it would be worth having a bit more info here about the pros and cons of what they can and cannot do. At least my site is working now so I'm doing other things today! :)
Hope your year gets better soon. Take care. Gail

I am having a very similar problem. Though trying to create a landing page with mailmunch which I use for my sign ups. Got it designed, can I get it to show on my site? No
I am having a battle with myself about changing themes and maybe just going for a thrive theme and using thrive architect but do not know whether I can go through the hassle of all the work it will involve.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

I feel for your Karen. The last time I changed my theme, I spent days trying to clean it up but yesterday, when I changed the theme, everything worked as it should and I think it's much better now. Maybe I'd learned a bit more this time too so things were established in the right place to start with.

I guess one of the lessons here is that all free themes are not the same. I used the preview theme option to see what it would do to my site and tried out a few before settling on the final one. It's still not perfect and I may still go down the premium route at some stage but at least for now, things are working again.

I hope it all works out for you.

Sending 'work, you ***********, work', thoughts to your site!
:)

We all have those days, and yes tomorrow will be better!

It already is. Thanks Melissa. Hope you have a good day today. :)

We all have them- but that soon passes

Thankfully so. Thanks for reading and have a great day yourself. Gail

I had one too the other day Gail! Cascading Style Sheets and themes can be a pain. I'd like to come over the pond and help you out. Thank goodness those days pass!!

Thanks Mike - one day I'm sure we'll meet. Hope you had managed to get over your bad day too. The sun's shining here so we're all smiling again but we are a little jaded.... :) Think I'll have to have an extra strong coffee today! :)

Sun shining in England?? Now I know you are a miracle worker!

Hi Gail,
Sounds like a doosy of a day. You were able to find some positives in it though....so great job!!!.
Keep moving forward.
Without some rain, we wouldn't appreciate the sunny days.

David

Hi David. You're right - we need the rain as well as the sun - today's sunny here now so all good again! :) (I'm a bit tired though....)

Too many to count but it usually turns out in the end.

Yes they generally do. Thanks for your support. Gail

Good job for hanging in there. I can totally relate one of those days... Tomorrow will definitely be better.

Thanks Ha. Tomorrow is here and you're right, it's better: )
