How do we measure productivity?

A wonderful blog by Kyle is inviting me to write my first longer blog. Yes, yes. Not the full moon yet, almost.

And also as result of comments from others, hard to hear... but understood. Yes, some opposition helps to face reality.

For those who missed Kyle s' blog, here it is: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kyle/blog/help-others-but-dont-forget-to-help-yourself. A fleek description on how helping others can stand in our way and delete or delay our own productivity. Which is almost the same. Kind of endless pause without action.

The same can be said about those who wait and take no action. Sitting aside and just watching is not an option either. Unless you are a bird watcher, of course.

But back to productivity. What is it and how to measure it?

A definition

Before answering the question of measurement, it is perhaps useful to remember what productivity is.

Today there are two possible definitions.

    • Productivity expresses the efficiency of production.
    • It is a measure between input and output, income and outcome, resources and results

    Two examples

. In industry, productivity refers to the effectiveness of production, as measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input.

. In ecology it is no less than the rate of production of new biomass by an individual, population, or community; the fertility or capacity of a given habitat or area.

Knowing that the earth does no longer regenerate itself and that we have entered a dangerous phase in our civilizations and cultures, we can no longer blame others for our own choices.

This being said... a new approach implies both definitions, called our ecologic footstep. What is the real price of a jet flight? Measured in terms of ecology?

Piling up the waste is becomes embarrassing.

    A measure

Knowing what productivity is and implies, how do we measure it?

Again in terms of industrial production or service the best way to gauge productivity is quality.

And in terms of ecology its consequences for the environment, the real price is what we pay for the loss of water, air, materials. And it is huge!

    In real time?

A deterioration of our environment by lack of values and ethical choices. Pollution of minds and earth unseen in the history of mankind.

The loss of species and irreplaceable natural resources.

When it comes to production A new circular economy imposes where recycling is the major asset. Recycling of materials, re-use of objects. Exchange of services. Gauged by ethical values.

New insights, new ways of Working, inventive and innovative approach to save time, money and resources.

What has this to do with WA?

The internet has become our new common place. A way to save time, money and resources.

The solution provided by the founders of Wealthy Affiliate is simply genius. Providing the learning materials in an experimental environment with free trials!

For the newbies who read me, and the premiums who doubt their own result. It is a safe investment in your own future. A key to learn the basics and improve by doing. Rome was not build in one day either. Learning comes before earning. There is no quick solution, nor quick money. And if so, often stolen and bad stuff.

For some, especially from poor countries, the sacrifice is huge. Perhaps, given the outrageous number of spam, we need, as a community, reflect on how we can filter the best elements and give them a chance to grow. A kind of scholar sponsorship . Your insights will be more than welcome.

    What is my point?

Gauge your productivity in function of value and quality. It is your ethical footstep... and it will leave its traces, long after you will be gone.

Some make it a political or religious issue. It is not. It is our common human destiny that is at stake. A way of seeking solutions for growing global issues...

We do not live for us alone. The planet has become a small place. And ego trips have become far too common. They need to be exposed and condemned. The global urge concerns us all. It is about us, we all together.

How can we make this earth a better place for all to live on?

Our own choices in the first place. Whether we like it or not compromise and dialogue are other words for peace.

    Epitaph (means PS)

    And above all.

Be not a parrot, become a master!

The future belongs to those who dare go for change.

    Good Morning Fleeky,

Do I understand correctly you faced some opposition? I thought that WA was such a peaceful place.

Yes, being a bird watcher is nice and I am lucky as here in my garden, there are still many. As my neighbors have also green farms birds feel happy here. Fact is that 75% of songbirds are in decline, I wrote a post about this sad happening.

It is all our fault. The speech Greta Thunberg gave at the UN explains it very well.

Yesterday evening on German tv I saw a reportage on waste. On the Malediven is the biggest waste dump in the world. One complete island of waste. Every day it gets 850 tonnes delivered.
Each week we consume the equivalent of a plastic credit card and this plastic remains in our body.

Global control our minds included is here already. It has sneaked up on us and we did not even notice.

Thank you for this good post Fleeky!

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

All so sadly true Taetske...if we join efforts, it will change and starts in our own backyard

    No chemical pesticides
    No chemical fertilizers
    No bug destruction

    .... the list is long

    πŸ₯°πŸ‘£

We are lucky to have many birds as well..no chemicals in our garden... all kind of wild species...nature knows better if we start to respect that.

Sitting here in my workroom looking out of the window at the nice panorama the world seems completely ok, sadly it is not. We all have to make an effort only like that we will make it.

Today it is a bright and sunny day with 31C. To the north, I can see El Torcal from my window. Wrote a WA post about that some time ago. During that hicking trip, we could disconnect completely for some hours. All the best, Taetske

    Awesome Taetske... keep sharing.

Good post Fleeky, very thought provoking.
We do all have choices but not everyone understands that.
They believe life happens to them and do not understand it is the result of their own choices. Many seemingly do not understand that doing nothing/not making a choice, is also a choice too.
    Does that make sense?
Many shout about climate change and then fly of to conferences on the subject which makes a mockery of it.
That however is a choice they make, seemingly with little understanding of how foolish they appear.
Its a bandwagon well known people jump upon to shout loudly about. But there are many working quietly in the background, well known and unknown, to bring about change.
Sadly we only hear about the bad rather than the good.
