20 Die and Guns Sales Soar

I have been memorized by the latest killing spree of this sicko at the school in Connecticut...

I hear and watch all the sympathy and sorrow and all the support most folks have or are giving to these folks in their time of need at it is promising for sure mankind can be sympathetic to others pain...

But at the other side of things I am watch CNN and they say gun sales are on the rise since the shooting....

They interview some idiot and he says he better get this gun he has been wanting before the laws change....what.....20 kids just got shot and all he can think about is how he is going to get more guns....

On one hand society and the outcry for this tragedy has been very commendable....

On the other hand society has lost its mind....more guns is not the answer but it is crazy that sales rise instead of drop....

society or part of it thinks of themselves....a very sad world my friends when this shit happens and many just want more.....how sad...

YES< Beautiful; please read my blog also, I just post it on my profile

Thank you

My hats off to you sir, your blog shows me that you are aware and concerned about what goes on around you. It really doesn't matter if I agree or don't. We all need to do the same and not only on the gun issue. It seems we bury a lot of things deep in the closet as long as it does not affect us directly. Or does it. All the best to you and yours. See you later

Thanks for the comment people have to start caring what is going on around them and in the rest of the world and stop being selfish and thinking of only themselves it would be a better world for it....

It is a tough call all around. There are no easy answers to this kind of madness.

Why does anyone need and assault weapon in their house, and ammunition that could start a war their is no need.....guns only have one purpose........thanks for the input

I'm probably going to get attacked for this, but here goes: Being from a family that believes in guns for self protection, the events of last Friday has caused the govt to run amok. While the events that occurred are beyond horrible, it was not the guns fault that the shootings occurred. It was instead the instability of the person who chose to pick up the gun and commit the crime that is to blame. There has been an uptick in sales, not because of a feeling of helplessness but for fear that govt will make a half assed decision to prevent the honest citizens of the world from purchasing a gun for protection against the crazies of the word, when these changes will in no way prevent the criminals of the world from getting their hands on a weapon when they need it. Sales have increased on the very items that they are trying to ban as those who purchase said items before a ban are commonly grandfathered in. Its easy to think that the sales are just breeding more crazes but that is not the case. Would you rather be somewhere where guns were banned and a crazy person came in and shot everyone, or would you rather be in a place where guns were allowed, carried by honest citizens and should said crazy individual appear, there would be not one but possibly several individuals who could potentially end the situation long before it started. Many may disagree with my view but I'd rather be given the ability to protect myself from the crazies of the world than have my govt think they're doing the right thing by taking the guns out of the hands who never hope to have to use them but can should a bad situation occur where themselves or a loved one was threatened.

I understand where you are coming from and while I do not agree, I respect your opinion.

Let's take for example the shooting at the movie theater. In side that theater was total chaos. People running up and down aisles, people climbing and jumping over seats.

Having more honest citizens in that theater carrying guns would have led to more deaths and injuries and here is why.

The urge to try and "help" the situation would have had people firing weapons while there were people flying around all over the place. The assumption that there "could" have been these magically crack shot armed people in the theater carrying weapons is one of false perception.

You would have had at minimum a couple people carrying guns that were terrible shots and terrible judges of when to fire only adding to the carnage.

I am not attempting to argue how you feel because, as I said, I understand how you feel and I do not agree.

A ban is not the answer as Americans always seem to find what they want be it illegal or not. Look at the "War on Drugs" the US government has wasted billions of dollars on over decades only to result in NOTHING.

Recognition and treatment of the mentally ill in our country is the logical first step.

Even though I see absolutely no need for ANYONE to own semi automatic or automatic weapons (there is no legitimate argument aside from hiding behind the Constitution) it si not going to end.

Ironically it was the Conservative Republican administration under Ronald Reagan that shut down thousands of facilities to treat the mentally ill and is the same factions now shouting about "give me my guns"

You cannot have it both ways.

Jennifer you are right on, guns don't kill people, sick people kill people.

Actually the percentage of the 2 armed citizens in the theatre being crack shots would be higher than you may think. Most people that purchase and carry a gun dont simply fill out the paperwork, wait the required time period and then never fire it. Most actually practice on a regular basis at ranges and become at the very least good shots. Although I dont personally carry a handgun, I have handguns in my home and know how to use them in case of a home invasion.

Does the media fail to report the individuals who have successfully prevented these mass shootings by carrying their own gun??? or has it just not happened??

Can you explain why the USA has the highest shooting incidents /deaths per head of population in what is considered the "civilized" world?? It has been reported that there is an average of 30 shooting deaths per day in the USA.

The solution is arguable.

As Joniki says below : " Americans are going to have to realize one day that Freedom has a price". IMO the price is either the 2nd amendment or your conscience.

Fixing the health care system to identify possible psychos? how long will that take , (assuming it is possible!)?? How many more incidents will occur while they "fix" health care? You may notice that it is happening more frequently. Do a google search for " a timeline of mass shootings in the us" and see what you find.

Unfortunately it is political suicide for anyone in government to take a decisive stand on such a divided debate, in what is increasing becoming a divided nation.

I totally disagree with you for sure Jennifer, protection, well if you lived in Iraq ok I could see that, how many times have you been robbed or attacked that a gun would have prevented it...???? Are your guns that easy to get to if someone entered your house...how long would it take to get them and load them.....different scenario.....a child finds the gun while playing....bang someone lies dead...can't say it has never happened before...it has...no guns no death....

For joniki....yes mental instability is a huge problem even here in Canada, it seems when there are economic cuts to be made the mentally ill suffer in spades....many wondering the streets.....that is a true shame how we treat our mentally ill....I see guns of having only one purpose and that is to kill...no other reason....self protection I here this all the time from the USA...it really makes me laugh....

For Jerrymc...for sure guns do not kill, people with guns kill.....but if those guns were not at this persons immediate reach, would these shootings have taken place....???? Probably not....case closed no guns in the house those people would still be alive....

For theronatwork...I still laugh at the reasoning of home invasion for the use of guns in the home...is this a daily event in your town...does it happen much....is their a real need for this....now if you are living in the boonys and you need protection form bears wolves and all round dangerous animals now that makes sense to me... thanks for the comment...

As far as kids finding and playing with guns that falls in the hands of the parents. I have grown up around guns and was taught to RESPECT GUNS, They are NOT a playtoy. Never once did I think to rummage around my parents home looking for one to play with. If a parent chooses to have a gun, it is there responsibility to teach their children about it, how to handle it if needed etc... I was still in grammar school the first time I went shooting with my parents. If you never learn about guns then you will automatically fear guns.

There have been stories all over FB. One of a attempted bank robbery in FB that was stopped because a patron in the bank was carrying. I think the biggest issue here is the stigma many seem to associate with the person carrrying said weapon.

At least in our state, we had to go through multiple background checks, town and state, and complete a gun safety course just to be able to obtain a pistol permit.

As for if anyone were to break into my home, regardless of the recommendations, a weapon for protection is already loaded and in a safe place you can easily get to. And, harsh as it may sound, if someone comes into my home its a case of shoot to kill, not wound or harm as there have been instances of criminals suing the homeowner over injuries. How stupid is that. Its always a case of I feared for my life etc so I did what I had to do. I just hope that it never has to come to that.

I whole heartedly believe that if criminals knew that there were more people carrying weapons, especially in areas like schools, malls, movie theaters where they are currently not allowed, they would think twice about committing such a crime as what occurred on Friday. You can disagree with me as you are welcome to, but I will always stand my ground in using a gun to protect those that matter to me most.

Gun owners are not war mongers, we just fear that govt will take it to the extreme and take rights away from us honest owners in an attempt to protect the world from more massacres and crimes, which I am sorry to say will never happen as stricter gun laws will ONLY ever take them out of the hands of the honest, and if that happens, there will be no one to protect you should the, pardon my french, Shit hit the fan and you have to watch a wife, daughter, or someone close to you die in front of you with no possible means to have prevented it.

For Meredithlnestar....I live in Canada, Hamilton Ontario...I have never had a need for a gun in my life....and I use to run with a well lets say a shady crowd at one time in my past....and have seen the shady side...and still I have no use for one and see no use for one except to kill someone....scenario....I was about 14 years old or so....went to my uncles in Florida for New years with my Aunt and her new husband....one thing led to another the adults were drunk...out come the shot gun next thing I know we are being chased out of my uncles house with a shot gun...it could have been worst than it was...if that gun was not there....it would have been much different...
You say at one time a gun may have come in handy...so do you carry a gun with you everywhere you go now...???

Can we as humans live our life on what might happen, or should we fight harder to change what has happened so as it shouls not happen again...

Take a page from the Austrailians and see how there guns laws were changed after a shooting....guess what no more senless shootings since then....oh what a blessing that would be.....

This is not Irag....I see no need for guns, guns kill and that is all.....thanks for the commnet....

For Bigwill....I find that is a huge problem with governments its not what is good for the people it is what is good for them or their party and they do not want to take on the tuff issues....Exactly how many have warded off an attacker with a gun????? If you do hear of it....people killing folks because they enter their house unlawfully.....then they are up on murder charges....Is taking a life that easy for people to do.....if a person is set to rob you is it safe to say you can shoot him....????I would say not.....Will killing go on for sure they will....will criminals get a hold of guns for sure they will.....

My conern is the innocent child or mentally ill dependent getting a hold of guns and going out to kill.....if the guns were not their the outcome will always be different.....First hand experience if guns are not in the house it is a safer house....

If someone does get in your house will you have time to go get your guns....I think not...??? thanks for the comment....

Back to Jennifer here....if criminals knew you had a gun would they rob or try to hurt you....for sure they would..if you think because you carry a gun or have one they will not commit the crime....death penalty has not curved murder much....

Teach your kids the right and wrongs of firearms of course....only if you could make all parents do that....it is not the case as it is sad to say...it is not the knowing right from wrong it is the fact that it only takes a split second to make a bad decision and some is dead....and lilke I say how often have you needed a loaded gun....????

Some people respond to feeling helpless by buying guns. What other things can we do? Suggestions?

The majority of these sale are not related to people feeling helpless. They are people fearing that there is going to be some sort of gun ban and are running out grabbing up weapons they suspect will be banned while they can.

i have no need for a weapon and never will...

I see both sides of the story and then look at how other Democratic Societies have handled it. The results speak loud and clear.

Americans are going to have to realize one day that Freedom has a price and personally my freedom is not worth the cost of 20 innocent young people.

Just curious, where do you live that you know absolutely, positively that you will Never need a gun? There was a time when I needed one.

well one thing for sure more guns is not the answer.....why would anyone think it was...?????thanks for the input....this is for dazzle fish
