Here is how:
Yes, you can and should remove articles that are no longer relevant to your new niche — it's important to keep your site's content focused and high-quality.
However, because some articles are already indexed, it's best to handle removals carefully to avoid SEO issues:
Set up proper redirects: If possible, set a 301 redirect from the deleted article's URL to a relevant page on your new site. If there's no direct match, redirect to your homepage or a broad category page.
Use 410 status codes if necessary: If the content is completely unrelated and you don't want a redirect, you can return a 410 ("Gone") status, signaling to search engines that the content was intentionally removed.
Update your sitemap: After removing or redirecting pages, submit an updated sitemap to Google Search Console to help search engines reindex your site faster.
Request removal in Google Search Console: For faster deindexing, you can also request URL removal through Google Search Console.
Taking these steps helps preserve your site's SEO health while aligning your content with your new direction. 👍
Fleeky Tip:
This way your reply sounds professional, strategic, and actionable... not just "yes, delete them" (which could cause SEO problems).
Hi Meina
The 410 is the gone status.
You find some explanation here:
https://www.keycdn.com/support/410-gone
Goofle will notify with this status, and there you can remove your page or post (limited per week)
What I do?
- I set index to non follow,
- and post or page to draft.
- Resubmit my sitemap to google.
- And after a while, delete post or page
Hope this helps
Fleeky
Hi Fleeky, thanks for your input, I also like this idea of requesting URL removal.
I will try this method, and also install the plugin that Carson mentioned, sounds very useful.
Thanks again.
Mel B
Fleeky, I'm not very techy, can't get my head around this one.
I will stick to requesting removal of URL and plugins.😊
Thank you for your help.
Mel B
Hi Fleeky.
Understood, thank you. Back then, I wanted to do a major update (rewrite everything) on a review post. What I did was change the permalink (because the course changed its name) and did a redirect from old to new.
Apparently, that was a mistake because it gave a 404 error. So, I just created a new post and did the proper redirect. After a while, I deleted the old post but didn't request for removal.
Currently, both are on the first page, which I just realized today. I just submitted a removal request.
Nah. If only the new one isn't on the first page, I'd definitely keep the old one, but in this case, I'm fine with removing it😁

If you're deleting articles because the content is no longer relevant, then just go ahead and delete them. Redirecting is not going to help much at all because google is going to drop those indexed links the moment is realizes they are gone.
That said, if you want to hide things from your site, but you do not want to actually delete them, you could use a plugin like “Ultimate Category Excluder” or “WP Hide Post”:
WP Hide Post lets you hide posts from:
• The homepage
• Category pages
• Tag pages
• Recent Posts widgets
• RSS feeds
• But the post remains accessible if someone has the direct URL.
This is basically like "Archiving" your posts.
Category Excluder likely requires you to put your posts that you want to hide, into a category, and then you can HIDE any post in that category from your site. The post would still be visible if someone has the link (or if Google links to it from the SERPS).
Carson
I will look into the plugin you mentioned; sounds like a great alternative,

Hello Community, I need help with how to delete articles that was written when I had Elementor installed.

When you change your theme the content itself doesn’t change, just its aesthetics. You can just edit the post so it fits the aesthetics of your new theme.
Thanks for your input Eric.
Somehow I'm having issues editing the articles that was done when elementor was installed, therefore I want to safely delete them.
I think I may go with Andre's idea of a staging site.
Hi Mel
Are you saying you want to update your Kadence implementation for the posts to look like they did under Elementor?
;-)
Richard
Hi Richard, thanks for your feedback.
I want to safely delete the articles that was done when I had elementor installed.
OK, Mel.
In your shoes I would create a free siterubix staging site (as suggested by Andre (@Apache). Don't be shy of asking Site Support to help with that. Then you can use the posts list to identify and select posts for deletion. Once you've deleted the posts that you don't want, ask Site Support to transfer the staging site to your main site.
;-)
Richard
Yes will do; this makes sense.
I also have other repairs to make, therefore staging site would be the best way to go.
Thanks for the reassurance Rich.
Perhaps what you can do to test it out is ask site support to create a staging site on your current website then with that you can convert your theme and test the staging site without affecting your real site.
That way you can see which theme works best and then convert your actual site to that theme.
Have you used GeneratePress theme it is very good and certainly helpful in many ways without the need to use Elementor or other such plugins.
Good idea Andre, only thing is...,
I feel like I've moved in with site support and overstayed my welcome.😟
Thank you, I will try support if all else fails,
Mel B
No probs Mel Besides I have been here for over 11 years and they still accept my messages and give me support so you are certainly good to go.
Wishing you well and have a great Easter weekend too.
Andre
Cheers Mel and no need to feel guilty that is what they are there for to help us out.
Andre ;)

Hello All,
I'm am trying to upload to the drive, as per a message from site support.
Can you please assist me with how to do this?
I've already zipped the files, I
Anytime support gives you some instruction that you don’t quite understand, don’t hesitate to ask them to explain. It worked wonders for me when I got my start. 👍🏼
Yeah, guess I could have asked, but I really didn't want to push it.
I've been having a lot of technical issues.
Great suggestion though.
That’s the only thing support is there for: technical issues. Anytime they respond with something you don’t understand ask them to explain it so you do or else you’re not going to get your problem fixed. 👍🏼
Hey Melanie,
Whenever they've asked me to do that, I upload the zip file using my FTP access to the site in question.
That saves both you and them time.
Hope you find this helpful.
Thanks Phil,
I tend to NOT trust ANY cloud or Google stuff... due to privacy NOT being there for those users.
this will be somewhere online you can share the files with support like google drive or other online drive....
as Trish says you could use ftp to upload....
this is in effect using wa as a drive....
hopefully you are sorted now....

I'm beginning to think my site has been highjacked.
Support has been dealing with the same issue for almost 3 weeks now, and the responses doesn't even sound like site s
I just contacted Kyle and Carson, via the links provided, both messages went to Site Support which kind of defeats the purpose.
Also, I'm no longer getting email notifications, I have to sign in to WA and check the bell icon.
Hey Melanie,
It might be time to reach out to Carson in a DM: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/message/carson
Just make sure you select "Report Content" so that your message will land in Carson's inbox and NOT back out in a classroom.
Hope you find this helpful.
I reached out to Kyle a couple of times, no response, he may not be getting my messages.
I will try the link you provided.
Thanks Trish, this is helpful.

I have had to use them a few times over the last month, and I have had no issues with the service... always helpful and fast!
I've never encountered this kind of service until now. Support is usually very good and quick to respond.

Do this immediately.
