I've added media to my posts and pages yet can't figure out how to add to my home page. I want to design my page with photos, graphics, etc. I've added images under my theme but
I've changed my theme and love it! Thanks to everyone who helped me with their suggestions - much appreciated.
Progress! My home page is taking shape, yet my theme requires strange image sizes, which requires conversion. If I change my theme now will this make or break my website? I spent a lot of time & energy choosing this theme!
I've changed my theme and it didn't affect anything on my site including my rankings. I had to make a few changes in the widgets
It shouldn't mess up what you have built. It will just look different. I had to try a few themes before I found the look that I felt good about.
Sometimes you can adjust the image sizes, sometimes not. I am still working some on my theme to figure out how to get images beside my blog posts. I know I am just missing a tweak of some kind.
Find the theme you are comfortable with that you can make quick adjustments to.
Maybe this helps.
Okay - I'm using the Polaray theme that says, "Your theme supports a static front page. Front page displays either "Your latest posts or A static page." I'm unsure which to choose, since I want my posts listed with photos/graphics/artwork but also want a static banner heading, etc. If I choose static page, I get two options: front page & posts page with both listing options from my menu (i.e. About Adele, etc.). How can I add a really, big photo of my subject at the top and smaller artwork at the bottom and/or sides of the home page?
The easiest way would be to choose the theme that supports widgets on the front page. Than you can put lots of stuff into these widgets - featured posts, featured pages, slider, html, whatever...
I am talking from the experience with Genesis child themes, of course :)
Hi make sure you choose a theme that best suits your site. Make it a static page for your posts. Your home page will show your posts when anyone goes to your site. You can also add a featured image to each post. You can find this at the far right of your right menu at the bottom. Make sure you click on update for everything you do. Hope this helps.
I think you have to go to settings and make the landing page a static page. Then you choose your home page as static page.
Hi. From what I understand your hompage whatever page you set it as. So when you edit that page or post and add media just update it and people will see your pics and graphics. I hope I've answered your question. If your question what steps you follow. click on add media and select files, if they are saved on you computer you'll be able to select it, then upload.

Did you add the images in text or visual. Some things don't work if it is done in visual rather than text

I keep getting this message every time I try to add media (100% free photos) to a post on my site. Can anyone help please?
Sounds like something you should put a support ticket in for. Click on the blue "Build My Website" to the left there and you will find "Support Tickets" in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Why is my favorite domain name selling for $1,900 on Namecheap.com with only a 327 search listing on Keyword Tool? I'm shooting for 5,000 searches, etc. on a name. I've tried ju
It's content that ranks these days, not domain names. I'd rather have http://boohoo.com than http://www.buycheapdesignerwomenslcothesonline.com It doesn't even have to be relevant to be successful, otherwise http://apple.com would sell fruit and http://amazon.com would sell river trips. It can even be personal, http://craigslist.org I seem to recall it was http://casino.com that sold for $5m+ as a premium domain name and it doesn't even rank on the fist few pages for that term, massively outstripped by brands that don't have any keywords relevant to gambling in their names. The online co. http://net-a-porter.com sold for $350,000,000. etc. etc. I'd much rather create a memorable brand, than try to find EMDs or keyword rich domains. :) Rich.
Agreed, I am on the same boat. I don't care if a keyword is in the domain at all, content is Queen!
oops now am concern about my domain name. I paid it and owned it. now i want it to
promote wealthy affiliates products. please my site out and need your opinion on it .
Thanks Rich. Now I've got more choices that I'd like for a domain name. It's like buying toothpaste - one brand is just fine, right? They all just clean your teeth. I will choose one eventually - otherwise I'll go pop! lol
Delly,
This might confuse the issue a bit, but www.SnapCracklePopcorn.com is available.... :)
Ooh, or www.popcorn-pop.com
Brainstorming is fun :)
Hey Guy. I've always felt that the whole "hyphen" argument is just snobbery, there are many successful sites using them, ie. http://net-a-porter.com or http://emirates-executive.com or http://cyprus-mail.com or... :) Rich.
Because it is not available and someone is trying to resell it. If your domain is "premium" it means it is owned by a reseller that is trying to get top dollar for it. I never pay more than $12 for a domain and only buy domains that are available.
Thanks Kyle. I can't believe this is taking me so long. I'm shooting for a really catchy, money-making, memorable name! So many names are taken on namecheap. I'm trying to achieve the top numbers too. Big challenge.
Don't worry about having a keyword in your domain and aim to get a .com...it will make your domain purchasing process that much quicker.
Hi - just an idea - cornthatgoespop.com - is available for .com .co.uk .org .net etc?
Cheers, Mark
3,534 searches & 601 traffic for popping the corn - available for $10.69 (popping corn - taken)! Good?
Hi Delly.
It's like people buying bits of land that may not be worth much today (or when they bought them) - but they see it as a place that potentially in the future, someone will really want to live there - so they can invest little "now" and reap the rewards when someone wants to buy it "later".
That's all that's happened here - and unfortunately an extraordinary amount of great keywords have been turned into domain names - with no website behind them. Just some individual or company waiting for YOU to come along wanting it bad enough to buys it from them.
I have a .co.uk domain I've had a working website behind since 2004 - I didn't have the foresight at the time - but 2 years ago, someone approached me and offer me the .com of the domain which they had registered some time before. They had no intention of using it for a website - but they put a price of $29,000 on it.
So, any ideas... head over to http://www.namestation.com/contests/closed - they run competitions for people who are looking for creative domain names. When the competition is closed (ie. the person looking for the domain has decided which to go for, and bought it), the other suggestions from people are listed for others to buy.
So start a competition and get input from thousands of people - please check the T&Cs; though - I don't know if you just have to buy the chosen domain through them, or if there is another fee behind it.
You could also try fiverr.com - just type in "domain name" into the search, and you'll get loads of offers from people who will come up with suggestions for you - for $5.
I hope this helps?
All the best, Mark
Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for all your ideas! I checked namestation.com & fiverr.com for ideas. On namestation.com, contests require available domain names which brings me back to square one. On fiverr.com, of course pay $5 for an idea which I want to find on my own. I just checked the "corn that goes pop" as a domain name! It's available! I really like this one. My problem has been finding a name that fits the bill, (5000 searches or under with a decent estimated traffic of about 200 or above and about 500 websites quoted). That's where I get hung-up. It's a great challenge to reach these numbers. Are they crucial to success on Google? My current site name: the popped corn (siterubix).
