My lack of consistency and persistance has now cost me, BIG

I'm now learning the hard way of what happens when you don't work consistently, don't research enough, and don't have a full plan of where you want to go with an online business because when the unexpected and big things come at you in life, it throws everything out of whack and makes you wish you had stayed up a little longer, researched a little more, done some extra training etc.....

I unfortunately received bad news today. I'm going to lose my job in 2 months because the client I was working with through my company has decided to pull out in order to cut costs. Many people today were devastated and I was shocked because I certainly didn't see it coming. It's not like they were leaving because of bad performance, we were actually doing fairly well. The problem is we weren't getting the volume they wanted (which they failed to tell us that a brand new site in another country had just opened taking that volume away).

This is the way of the 9-5 world and I've been through this before and I should've not gotten complacent. Now my mind is on full throttle of what is coming next and also what more I should've done here at WA to lessen the impact of what had happened today. I can't dwell on it much though as tomorrow is coming no matter what has happened today and I can either dwell in pity or do something to help get myself in a better position in the future.

This is a big lesson for those that are new here. Work as hard as you can on your sites, go through the training and go through it again if you have to in order to understand everything, ask for help if you don't understand something, but most importantly, TAKE ACTION! Do it even if you don't want to, it will pay off in the long run especially if you want to get out of the typical day job world.

Now I'm going to have to scramble to get applications and resumes out and hope I can get a job where I'm making at least close to what I am now which I hate to say it is unlikely. I'm not in danger of leaving WA because my yearly membership was already renewed from the Black Friday special.

They are trying to get a new client in the building before the 2 months is up and I'm hoping they will have the same position available that I'm in now if they are successful. Even if that doesn't happen or I don't find another job before that time, I will get some kind of severance package plus unemployment. I also was smart enough to save up some money in an online savings account (One of the things I HAVE consistently done), plus I'll be getting money from my tax return too and I've made some money from freelance work that can also help (I have to thank WA for what I've learned here to allow me to do freelance work).

The timing of all this just stinks! I was getting ready to enjoy my 2 week vacation that starts next Saturday as I was going down to New Orleans with my parents to visit family, but now I may have to cut that vacation short or cut it out entirely.

Wish me luck folks, the next few weeks and months are going to be interesting for me, but I'm hopeful that something will come along and now I have new motivation once again to work hard and consistently and STAY working consistently on my websites. I had such good momentum in the first half of the year and I let off the throttle when I shouldn't have. I blame no one but myself. Lesson learned.

A hard challenge, but good motivation

Stay positive, you can do this!

Thanks for sharing this with us. You seem to have a great attitude for facing the future. I am sure that with perseverance and you outlook things will fall into place.

Another thing you've got to count in your blessings is that you've been given a two-month warning. I know this isn't the most encouraging thing in your situation at this point, but there's what's called the "At Will" policy. It began during the 19th century. The policy states that you, as an employee, have the right to quit on the spot. Unfortunately, this is a two way street. The employer can end relations with you for good reasons, bad reasons or no reason at all!

Many employers will not disclose such upcoming ordeals because they don't want morale to go down and thus a suffering in the quality and performance, so many times, they simply wait a week or even a day or two before springing the bad news. Sometimes there is no warning at all! They're covered by that policy. If you were to leave on the spot, that would look bad you when you prospect for re-employment with another company. In spite of the policy, which is supposed to likewise protect you, it doesn't. As an employee, the odds are stacked against you.

You've made a number of wise moves, of course, a yearly subscription being one of them! With all these things in mind, If you have to cut back on the vacation, do that, but if I were in your shoes, I'd still go. You deserve it.

Goes to show that life will catch you with your pants down and you've definitely prevented them from going all the way down. For some people, this is instant catastrophe. You, at least, have time to adapt and carve out a new path for yourself and family.

Perhaps, the greatest error you've made here is not being inconsistent and doling into the work here as if there were no tomorrow, but that you've let your guard down with regard to the fickle nature of employment. I have written an entire book on this topic, though I have never published it. Most people (the masses) believe that employment is the only acceptable way to make a living, but we know that isn't true. It's a very consumer mindset way to think. Employment is expedient so long as you making your way to replacing that income with far healthier ways! Thus, employment is temporary for those of us who are blazing trails to entrepreneurship.

From what I've read of your accomplishments, I believe you will get through this and it will be better for you than as you've known it. Go for it!

Daniel

It's part of being employed as soon as you do. is a profitable business more then you may find yourself looking for something new to do

I feel your anxiety......be grateful you do have a financial safety net....one suggestion, don't cut out family; that is ONE thing you can't take back or fix, lost time with family and friends. Like you are experiencing, there are no guarantees in life.....be open with them and listen to the advice and support you will get. Enjoy the love and use it to inspire you.

Well, good luck, at least you have a little bit of a safety net and I only have one speed. Sometimes, I wish I knew how to take a break or something. Sleep too is something I can do when I am dead. In order to get anywhere, I have to keep moving. You will find something, don't worry and think positive :)

Yes you have to be constantly in forward gear!

Your post just woke me up. I have been asleep for so long, it's time to roll my sleeves and start working here at WA. Thank you for sharing this post. It means a lot to me.

So sorry to hear about your job, hopefully something better will come along real soon until you can get your online business established.

Thanks for sharing your Life's Lesson with us. Wish you all the best and much success ahead!

~Audrey
