How To Get Stuff Done

Earlier this week I got a reminder of my number 1 tip for improving productivity.

I have been working on a project for my business for a few weeks now and I thought I was nearing the end of it. However, after reviewing it I discovered quite a few jobs that still needed doing - some that I had forgotten about and some that I realised I had done wrong.

It can be a bit of a dispiriting blow when you suddenly find yourself further from your goal than you thought you were!

Instead of thinking you have only 1-2 things to do you suddenly have dozens of things to do and it feels like you can't focus on any single one of them.

If this happens to you then it's time to make a to-do list

By writing down everything that is spinning through your brain, you are essentially doing a very nice data dump.

Once it’s written down, you can choose one thing to focus on until completion. And anytime a thought gets in the way of something else that needs to be done, simply write that down as well.

This one simple trick can double and even triple your productivity. More importantly, it also decreases stress and increases a feeling of calm happiness. Try it and see.

Just seeing everything written down makes it somehow feel more achievable and as you finish each task there is a real satisfaction in striking it off the list.

This builds a nice momentum and really helps to get things done.

Anyway, that's my break over for now - I just wanted to share that wee tip with you.

Time to strike something else off my list!

Enjoy your weekend!

Dave

That was nice, changing "to do's" to "tah dah's!" Hi Dave, Twack sent us over here and I was sort of wandering around reading and thinking about what I was reading, and just basically enjoying myself.
I read the post about cancers and wonder if you all's know the PSA blood test for prostate cancer was in error 50%, of the time. Maybe it's better now, maybe it's not.
I have this story where this guy at church was ( like too into me, and not mutual).
Collin was his name and he'd corner me and want to hold my hand, then I'd never get a word in edge wise! I'd do my best to surround myself with friends so there was no place for him to sit or sit in the last row on the end.
Well he announced to the pastor that he had a friend who was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he'd grab the floor and not stop, until even the pastor would tell him, alright we'll pray for your friend, and now let's get the next prayer request.
This stuff went on for almost a year!
Finally I told him that your friend's life is in danger, because neither of you learned anything on your own about this cancer, or the testing or the treatment.
You commiserate with your friend, and by now, surely he thinks he will die, and because he's thinking that, he will give up and die.

And there is a 50% chance that he never had this cancer to begin with because the PSA test is wrong, or false positive 50% of the time!
So then they want to "harvest tissue samples" like maybe even 12 of them, and I have a friend who almost died of blood poisoning because of exactly that.
And the grippy snippy thing the doc used to collect tissue samples became contaminated, but doc did not change it out, and nearly killed by Bible friend down in the next town below here.

I mean the doc could have busted out a clean grippy snippy. Seems he should have used 2 since you guys have 2. Or even 12 samples 12 tools, why not?
Could be they are plastic throw-aways for one time use, or they should be!
Yet another iatrogenic, or doctor caused dis ease or surgical injury, or even death by doctor. there are 770,000 per year in the US, and less than a half of one percent of Co Iris, those who died had a co-morbidity like heart disease, PAD peripheral artery disease, diabetes, COPD Chronic Occluded Pulmonary Disease, obesity, etc. Where is the uproar about 3/4ths of a million killed by docs every year?
And why shut down the economy over the flu that 99.5+% of the people get over?

Or have no symptoms because, Glory be! Their immune system is actually working, unlike vaccinations that impart Zero immunity.

My Organic Chemistry teacher, Jesse I's wife was a flu researcher, and she told us that the flu they were working on would be the "current" flu vaccine in 2-3 years, but by then a new flu will have mutated. So they were always a couple years too late.

Plus with a dead virus the adjuvants, stuff they add to vaccines makes you sick, so your body reacts, but no natural lasting immunity happens. And all of that DNA of dog, peanut, monkey virus, human fetal tissue, and aluminum, stay in your system.

Anyways Collins's friend was just fine, after the message was received. And hopefully Collin learned that a conversation should be 2 way. And I moved on to another church 10 miles closer to where I live.
Hey Mr. Dave07, I'm following you now, maybe you would please follow back so I can return and look at your trainings?
Thank you so much, I had a nice time over here, you know
Suzay

I had to do that yesterday Dave. I had to focus 100% on a page that I have been updating and researching again. Its often the only way to go. It took me 3 days to get it done but the focus worked.

Wishing you a profitable and successful week ahead.

Trevor

Hi Trevor
Yes it’s amazing how much easier it is to make progress when you can see exactly what needs to be done.
Have a great week too

Thanks
Dave

Always great advice Dave, thank you.
I am heading towards creating the 'mother' of all to-do lists in the next few days, there's been so much going on I've ended up with multiple piles of notes, in no particular order whatsoever. I'm managing to get the priorities sorted but not much else.
I'm actually looking forward to writing it all out. (must remember to add eating and sleeping to it)

Lol Twack - yes finding time to sleep and eat is underrated sometimes.
Prioritising tasks is also an important part of the process which is why it's important to make that list initially so you can actually see what needs done and then create some sort of order.

Thanks
Dave

Very welcome.😁

Thanks for sharing this idea, Dave!

Jeff

No worries Jeff.
It really helps to be clear on what needs done.

Thanks
Dave

It does, indeed!

Jeff

There is a wonderful book written by a productivity expert called David Allen called Get Things Done (GTD). It is available on Amazon or Kindle.

Hi Richard
Thanks for the tip - I must have a look
