'We Didn't Start The Fire" came out in 1989. In 1990, it was #35 on the Billboard Year End 100 Hot Singles.
#1 was 'Hold On' by Wilson Phillips, it may be a while before I hear that one.
There is awesome contemporary Christian from hard rock such as Stryper and Whiteheart and well everything else. I like it all! :)
"Mem'ries, Light the corners of my mind. Misty water-colored memories. Of the way we were..."
Just to change the tune in your heads.
Great song (I was dancing sitting on my kitchen chair) and brought back memories. Thanks for sharing Phil ;-)
Yes Emilie, lots of memories. Today is the anniversary of the start of the 13 days of the "Cuban Missile Crisis".
Yesterday, the brother-in-law of the Rosenbergs, who lied and let them be executed died.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I would not trade my past for a 20 year old's future.
Yes our generation has lived some amazing history and we also have the greatest music which is also liked by the newer generation.
Emilie, I'm going to guess that you never had to hide under your desks at school when you were a child.
Us kids always wondered how a wooden desk was going to protect us from a Nuclear Bomb.
No Phil, I did not. I grew up in Brazil and then I went to South Africa at 17 so I was not as aware of this as you were.
If Khrushchev, hadn't of blinked I'm pretty sure you would have become aware of it. Ahhh, it was a false alarm any way. ;^)
Maybe I wouldn't have had time to have become aware ;-). It's all in the past and now this red hot minute as we are chatting we are ok.
I remember hiding... and wondering what it was all about. Nuclear bomb? My child-brain just couldn't comprehend.
Of course we have folks here born after 1989 and they might not know... Funny you should say that. A few years ago, I was at an event in Florida, and chatting with a young man who mentioned he was born in 1989. As we chatted, I decided to ask him if he knew who Jimmy Carter was. He answered, sure I do. He's the wide receiver for the Jaguars.
Skip, I'm curious to see if any kids even look at this post. If they do who they know. I'm going to guess Marilyn, Kennedy maybe Elvis.
Peter you know what's interesting, if you play the video for the music and scroll through the personalities list.

Great song! Got so much more out of it now than when Billy Joel recorded it. 1989... in the thick of diapers and runny noses! Thanks bunches for the rewind and repeat, BP :-)
Gwynn, you're very welcome.
It's kind of amazing how little we learned from even this not too distant past. Afghanistan practically ruined Russia, I'm sure we didn't make the same mistake. 8^o
