Putting WA Affiliate Links in WA Blogs Have NO Benefits

A couple of days ago Vicki (Vickic3) wrote a blog about another member posting a WA promotional blog here within WA containing WA affiliate links. When she tried to help this member to tell her that she could not put affiliate links in WA blogs and that a promotional blog was of no benefit here, she was rudely attacked.

WHAT VICKI DID NOT KNOW AT THAT TIME

I chimed in on her blog and told her that there was nothing wrong with this other member posting a WA promotional blog here within the community. Many of us who have been here for a while write WA promotional blogs. We don't write them for you WA members, we write them for people who are NOT WA Members.

There are still many members here, even some Ambassadors, that either have forgotten or do not know that every WA blog gets indexed and ranked in Google just like your website content. Your WA blog is a powerful way of getting referrals to join WA. This is why I created a tutorial on how every member can make money with their WA blog, see below link.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-make-money-w...

But Vicki did not know this at the time she was politely trying to help this other member. That being said, the member who rudely came back at Vicki should have known better. This member could have politely explained to Vicki that she wasn't doing anything wrong. I do not know why she was rude, but there is no place for that here.

RULES - NO AFFILIATE LINKS IN WA BLOGS

In the WA rules called Spam is a No No, it states that we are not to use our WA blogs to self promote any of our niche websites and thus place any affiliate links that we can benefit from. Like this member who snapped at Vicki, other members who write WA promotional blogs will sometimes place WA affiliate links in their posts.

Does this violate the Spam is a No No rules? Not exactly and here is why. None of us can gain any benefit from them because the only people who can click through on the links are already WA members. Notice I said that only WA members can click through on them. So this means by using WA affiliate links in your WA blogs will yield no benefits to you.

WHAT ABOUT NON-WA MEMBERS?

Now that you know only WA members can click on the WA affiliate links in our blogs, you maybe thinking that the links are for non-WA members to click on. For those members who put the links in their blogs, they are NOT clickable to non-WA members. So why do members who write WA promotional blogs include the links?

Perhaps they believe the links are clickable by non-WA members, which they are not, or perhaps they are using the links as bait to get these non-members to click on them. Why bait someone to click on a nonfunctional link? Though I do not believe in doing this, when a non-WA member clicks ANYWHERE within a WA blog they get a Join WA Registration pop up.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/what-people-outside...

The link above is to a tutorial I created showing you what non-WA members see when they click on our WA blogs posted on social media, within our websites if relevant, and when they find them during a Google search. Knowing what people outside of WA see helps greatly in the crafting of a WA promotional blog and why using WA affiliate links has no direct benefits.

Personally I don’t like using WA affiliate links in my WA promotional blogs because I do not like to bait people to click. These links are nonfunctional and I see no purpose in frustrating my readers. The ONLY time I will use a WA link to get non- members to click would be when I say something like “Join Me at WA” or “Checkout my WA Profile”.

JUST TO RECAP

There is nothing wrong with posting WA promotional blogs here within the WA community because like our website content, they will get indexed and ranked in Google for the whole internet world to see.

Placing WA affiliate links in your WA blogs does NOT produce any benefits to the blog post writer because the only people who can click through on them are already members of WA.

Any kind of link within a WA blog is nonfunctional and cannot be clicked through by non-WA members. Attempting to do so will cause a Join WA Registration pop up to display.

With the exception of links to other WA blogs and tutorials, or outside links to information that you are not the author of, ANY and ALL links that are to your content and niche affiliate programs are PROHIBITED!

If you have any further questions on what I have shared with you here, please leave them below and I would be happy to answer them.

Hi Rob,

You are correct, there is zero benefit to putting a WA affiliate link in posts here at WA because every person that reads it already has an affiliate ID, is already a member, or came through with no affiliate ID Initially but has one set because we set affiliate links automatically for anyone who blogs at WA.

So, this is why we are lenient with this - it makes no difference.

Affiliate links to other programs is strictly prohibited and will cause your blog to be deleted or invisible to the community upon manual review.

Carson

Hi Carson and thank you clarifying

She still had no right to be so abusive to me here, on my profile and in a pm- My help was genuine and all she had to do was explain it kindly and help me and all would have been ok
I would never say the things she said to me to anyone and it was truly very upsetting
Hey onward we go

Vicki

Thanks for your reply Carson. Other than to clarify why WA affiliate links in the WA blogs serve no benefit to the writer of the post, I wanted to inform the community so they do not report a WA blog as spam that contain WA affiliate links.

Hi Carson,

I understand that by posting your WA affiliate link within a WA posted blog will not benefit the individual. But your response slightly confuses me.

I read the rule as no self-promoting, to me that would include a link to anything related to me including any of my blogs, training, social media platform links, or websites if I post them unannounced or unasked for.

I ask this because when I first joined, I too made the grave error of posting a URL unasked (had not seen or read any rules for the platform), and received a tongue lashing from many of the older members here. I was told if someone would have asked me for the link it would have been acceptable but since I posted it without being asked it was a violation of the self-promoting rule.

There is a very fine line between the two and it did take some communications back and forth with some of the other members, before what the difference was between the two was understood by me.

My conclusion from those conversations was to translate the rules as:

1. One you are asked for it - so it is acceptable.
2. The other you are giving it unasked for so you are promoting yourself - and is unacceptable.

So how could you be lenient on this and not the other isn’t this sending mixed signals on self-promoting?

Calvin

Hi Vicki,

I am late reading. No one should be disrespectful specially if you trying to help.

Hugs your way!

Ana

Thanks for yous support Ana
Enjoy your new week ahead
Vicki

Calvin,

You obviously did not understand my post here and Carson's reply to it.The spam monitors here at WA are only lenient to WA affiliate links being posted in WA blogs because it serves no financial benefit to the person posting it.

Example, if I posted a WA affiliate link in my WA blog and only WA members can click through on them, how does that help me when the only ones who can click on the links are already members?

On the contrary, if I posted a link to my website in a WA blog that have affiliate links to other opportunities, that is considered self promotion because I can financially benefit if a WA member clicks on any of my non-WA affiliate links.

If you still do not get it here is an easy solution. DO NOT POST ANY LINKS INSIDE A WA BLOG. - And if you see a blog with links, make sure the link is going to an outside source and is not a WA affiliate link.

Hi Rob
My initial thought when I saw this blog was I felt for this member as I had already helped 2 other members earlier who had posted in WA by mistake and were so grateful for my help and I also helped them by suggesting to rewrite or rearrange some of their posts so they wouldn't be duplicated and again they were really happy. Then I came across the one you are referring to and thought ok, there are links to this members sign up.
Why would this be here as we are all members so I very kindly asked her if she had posted here my mistake and she slammed me instantly which shocked me as my kindness and sincerity was all there?
Hey- I'm over it now and I do know we are all allowed to post promotional blogs for WA here thanks to you and will sidestep any I see with links as this really threw me on my perch - Her rudeness was totally not called for and it even extended to my profile and my pm which was really disheartening
Hey onward we go and thanks for your help

Oh, by the way, the other 2 I did help were not WA promo blogs, they were website posts :( Hope those 2 members go it all sorted out and are happy campers

Cheers Rob
Vicki

Like I said Vicki, you were politely trying to help a member who you thought had made a mistake. There is nothing wrong with that.

This other member should have been kind and gentle in her response to you, explaining that what she was posting was not a violation of the rules.

But everything both positive and negative can be a learning experience. You learned that WA promotional blogs with WA links are accepted here within WA.

Just forget about what that other member said and do not let it stop you from helping other members of this community. There will always be bad apples in an apple tree.

Thanks, Rob- you rock and I love helping people- my purpose in life is to help people succeed and grow and I will always do this :)
Go well and enjoy the rest of your weekend
Vicki

My pleasure Vicki.

Hi, Vick,
I am happy your ok now. It certainly wasnt fair what happened to you. We grow thick skins although we shouldn't have too. :)

Debs :)

@boomergp08...….That might have been me , because I posted my website,NOT knowing that it was some kinda a rule that you cant...and to BE perfectly honest ...ALL I wanted was someones opinion on how it looks and if they had some pointers. The last thing on my mind was to gain anything else but that. And I hope that if another WA member visits my website he/she should know that it has affiliate links on them...that's why we are all here right ? And whats wrong with saying Hey here is my facebook page can ya guys help me out with some likes ? Carson, Kyle..I do apologize for NOT reading ALL the rules LOL I just wanted to get started making my website right away !!! LOL

The person I was referencing in this post was not you, but there are many members like you who do not know of the posting rules. The link to the rules are below. If you want feedback to your website or Facebook page, there are appropriate places to ask for this inside WA. Do not use your WA blogs to do this.

I understand where your coming from. This self appointed WA Policeman boomergp08 thinks it's his duty to police what people do on WA website. I was trying to protect anyone else from the abusers that dwell in here. The matter with Vicky should never be in public. It should had been handled in private but some dwellers want to be noticed. It's so sad that other people approve of this guy below. Because of him I will only constrate on my website and stay away from the community. It's not worth getting into fights over this small issue. If you would like a free comment from me just P M me.

yeah but if im talking to someone on here...making friends and helping each other and say ...hey can you take a look at my site and let me know what ya think.....I don't consider that spam ! If I go down every post and everyblog here and drop my link then that would be spam ? so if im talking to someone on here and just ask if they can check my site out I couldn't do that ?

I will check out your site any time you want. Just private message me so no one else will get offended.

You most definitely can do that. If you are talking to someone and you ask them if they could checkout your site or FB page, if they agree just send it to them in a PM. You could also use the Site Feedback area as well, though I feel direct contact through a PM would be better. This way it remains private.

Thanks for straightening that out whew

You are welcome.

Thanks for sharing, Robert.

You are welcome Roger.

Why do I see posts here bringing links from outside WA? I think that is a promotion of a website, whoever has that website. If other websites can be brought in here, can we not promote our websites?

No, we cannot post links to our niche websites because self-promotion is prohibited in our WA blogs. If the links from outside sources are for informational purposes and do not benefit the person posting them, then those are acceptable.

Boomer,
As always very informative and thank you for sharing :)
Susan

You are welcome Susan. Happy to have shared this information.

I know of one member who didn't realize she could copy a link from the browser's address bar and was using the WA Affiliate Link instead. It's not all cut and dried, is it?

There will always be people that make mistakes just because they do not know any better. I know I have made mistakes in the past and still do sometimes. It is up to us who know to help those that don't.

Hi Rob thank you for taking the time to explain how this works and providing links to the training in this area.
Cheers Cass

You are welcome Cass. There is still some confusion by many members here in the community when it comes to WA affiliate links in our blogs. I just wanted to make things more clear.

⭐️ Good to know & thanks kindly for sharing your seasoned advice -- the clarification is much appreciated, cheerio .. 😊

You are welcome Keisha. Happy to have made things clear for you.
