Affiliate Marketing Advice - Do Not Rush Into It
Too often I see new members here at Wealthy Affiliate rushing into the process of starting their own online businesses without taking the time for planning. Why are you in such a hurry? Are you in need of a job or have mounting bills to pay? Or perhaps you are so excited at this free and easy way to get started that you forget to plan things out.
6.8 BILLION DOLLAR AFFILIATE MARKETING INDUSTRY
Online affiliate marketing is steadily growing and looks to continue this upward trend for the foreseeable future. This is extremely advantageous to every member here at WA because of the many facets of the easy training and business building resources available for one low monthly cost of $49.00 USD.
This is merely a drop in the bucket when it comes to the investment you will make to get your piece of the multi billion dollar affiliate marketing industry. It is now November 2018 and in another 14 months the Affiliate Marketing Industry is projected to be a 6.8 billion dollar industry by 2020. That is $6,800,000,000.00 per year!
Why is it such a profitable industry? Because practically every business that sells products, services and experiences online has an affiliate program. These companies will gladly pay anyone with a blog or website to promote their products. The more people use the internet for commerce, the more opportunities are available to the affiliate marketer.
But in order for you to effectively make money in affiliate marketing online, or any business of your own, you need to have a plan. You cannot build a business without first knowing what it will be about and then how you can put it all together, no matter how long it takes. And trust me, it will take several months before you earn your first payment.
HAVING A CLEAR PLAN WILL SAVE YOU TIME
Many people seem to think that having an online business will make them rich in a short period of time and for very little work. If you believe that then I guess you also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Financial success in any online business takes time and some hard work, and having a clear plan will make things easier.
One of the first things you need to do when starting your affiliate marketing website is to choose what it will be about. What kind of product, service or experience do you want to promote? Are you knowledgeable enough in it to recommend it to others? Whatever it is you choose to promote, to a specific group of people, this is called your niche.
Of the many aspects of building your affiliate marketing business, one of the problems I see many newbies having is trying to find a niche. I think many people just overthink the process, making it harder for themselves. It is super simple to find a niche. I have written a few tutorials explaining what is a niche, how to find them, and I give you dozens of niche examples.
I do not even need to see you right now yet I can tell you of at least one niche you are using to read this blog. Want to know an easy way to find niches? Go to a book store or any place that has a magazine rack. Each of those magazines represent niches. Automobile, Gardening, Photography, Computers, Fashion, Cosmetics, Fitness, Travel,... These are all niches.
DO YOUR KEYWORD RESEARCH
The next thing you need to do after deciding on which niche you will promote is to come up with some keywords. These keywords are what you believe people will be typing into Google to find what you are promoting. The trick with keywords are to find those that have a low competition value, meaning, that not many other bloggers are using the same keyword. Those of us here at WA have free access to the Jaaxy Lite keyword research tool. When I write my content on my chosen niche I always spend a couple of hours coming up with about 12 low competition keywords for just that one post. Then I choose the one out of 12 that I will use for my target keyword. The remaining keywords I ignore, unless I can use them elsewhere.
You only need one low competition keyword with a high amount of searches to appear in your page or post title. People searching Google for that keyword will find your blog but only if you provide a thorough amount of content that answers that keyword query. If your content is not good enough, Google will not highly rank you, no matter how good your keyword is.
Many times I see members ask if they can change their already indexed post titles because they found a better keyword. Well that tells me you didn't do a good enough job at your keyword research. Now I admit this sometimes happens to me too, but I never change an already indexed page or post title. What do I do with that better keyword?
I save it to use in another post that I will write at a later date. If I really really want to use it in the post that has been indexed, I will add it to my content as an H3 heading tag and then write a few paragraphs of content to answer that keyword. A keyword only needs to appear once within your content for Google to rank you for it.
A PLAN OF ACTION WILL SAVE YOU TIME
The best advice I can give to a newbie looking to start a profitable affiliate marketing business is to spend some time planning your course of action. First choose the topic or niche for your website, take the easy step-by-step training here at WA, come up with at least 12 low competition keywords for your page or post, and write your content for your website visitors NOT Google.
When taking the training here at WA, do not move on to the next lesson until you understand the current lesson. If you need to, go back and take the lesson again. You can take it as many times as you like. Also ask the community questions, no matter how silly you think it is. Many times the questions you think are silly can help you to better understand the learning.
Make sure to complete each task within each lesson before moving on to the next lesson. Do not skip a task thinking that you will get to it later. The tasks are very important to complete when they are given to you. Skipping ahead without completing them will cause problems for you in the following lessons. Rushing through is not a good plan of action.
Just like with social media it is very easy to get distracted here within WA but in a different way. Whereas social media distraction rarely benefits your ability to earn money, the distractions here will in some way contribute to your future success. Just make sure to focus on the training tutorials first and then the other stuff later when you have the time.
If you go into this online affiliate marketing endeavor with a plan of action, not expecting to get rich within a year or two, your financial future will be a good one. Affiliate marketing is the easiest and least expensive way to make money in this multi billion dollar per year industry. And being a member of Wealthy Affiliate gives you the best chance for SUCCESS!
ONE MORE PIECE OF ADVICE
For those of you who answer the questions of newbie members, make sure you give an EDUCATED ANSWER. Don't just say, 'follow the training and you will get your answer.' In my opinion that is a really lame answer. If you cannot give an educated answer, then do not reply to the question. Here is what I mean. Which answer below sounds more educated?
HOW CAN I MAKE MONEY HERE? - Everything will be explained in detail in the upcoming training.
HOW CAN I MAKE MONEY HERE? - You will create an easy to build website and promote products being sold by other online retailers like Amazon. You will be paid by these companies for every sale your website sends to them. This will be explained in detail in the upcoming training.
I realize we are all encouraged to interact and help out members of this great community, but if a member, especially a newbie, is asking a question, give a good enough answer. I know if it were me and I received an answer that said to follow the training and it will be explained, I would be upset and probably would quit. How would you feel if you received your answer like this?
Everything requires thought and a plan of action. Rushing through the training or giving a quick answe to a question is counterproductive to both the person giving and receiving. What are your thoughts on what I have outlined in this post? Leave them below. If you are still stuck on finding a niche and how to narrow it down, I give dozens of examples at the link below.

Thank you Marion. How are things in the "Land Down Under"? Has anyone heard from Joseph? Last I heard he was facing some medical problems with one of his legs.
It's been a very long time since I heard from Joseph. I left several messages via Skype with no response.
He must be alive because Skype says he was last seen an hour ago. I've left a new message.
Robert,
I agree about giving answers. We want to give proper answers or have those you know are very knowledgeable assist. Training is what I am doing and not rushing even though it's tempting with the holidays coming up. :)
Very good post overall.
Thank you. I am happy you liked my post and I can understand the temptation for wanting to rush though because of the upcoming holidays. But regardless, it is a temptation that needs to be avoided.
Great, sound advice Robert.
A plan of action is so important and to follow it through.
Also, thanks for the reminder that we need to be more mindful in our responses to new members.
The questions they ask may seem trivial but for them, it could mean make or break for pursuing their online business.
You are welcome Jackie and you are definitely correct. The very trivial questions by newbies are not trivial at all where they are concerned.
Some great things to not only think about but incorporate into the business plan! Great post, thank you for sharing!
Really good stuff. In your opinion when you start a blog how long should you wait to monetize it? When you have a certain number of visitors a day? Thank you for the great article.
You are welcome. I would wait until I am receiving a fair amount of daily traffic, because without the traffic you cannot get potential sales.
Plus, if your website is fairly new, Google is not going to highly rank you without a fair amount of informative content. Great content leads to higher rankings which in turn leads to higher traffic.
Your words are to be followed to the letter, Robert. I have always found your advice to be solid, honest, and trustworthy.
Thank you...
You are welcome James. I am just paying back to the community the advice I received many years ago from other more senior members.

A well put together post. This gives confidence to someone new to this business format, to slow things up a bit & plan it properly.
Thanks for confirming to me, within your post, that I personally believe that I am on the right track to seeing a brighter future.
It was my pleasure to share this information with you and the community. Having an action plan and moving through it methodically will yield better results in the long run. Rushing through will not make you money any faster.
