Newbies - Be aware of information overload!
Information overload will stop you moving forward
I have just completed what is becoming a weekly task, although it was never planned this way. This is resetting my personal goals, ticking off the parts I have completed the previous week and planning my next steps towards achieving my bigger goals.
I never used to work this way, I have only picked up this habit since joining WA. The reason I now work in this manner is because of my tendency in the early days to try to do too much. I was jumping from one section of WA to another and ending up with information overload.
Although I was working hard, I was not achieving much at all. I was also trying to fit all my work and family stuff around my WA time, often forgetting the previous section I had worked on. Affiliate marketing was all pretty much new to me and I was seriously considering if I was cut out for this type of work, of course this was making me feel depressed.
Was WA another mistake? Had I started another thing that sounded good when I explained it to my wife, only to have second thoughts after a couple of weeks - I had been down this track before?
The targets I now set myself include the stuff I need to do around the house and garden, I am a keen gardener, and at this time of the year there is always stuff that has to be done in preparation for later in the year. This separates my WA time and helps me keep on track.
Setting my goals/ targets down on my computer has been a key to my learning. I now move forward logically completing my tasks, for example writing content for a page - I stay with it until I have it done.
By having everything written down in front of me on my desk top, also gives me a boost when I have completed a set target. In fact I have to say that I get real pleasure from ticking off my targets and this is reflected in my demeanor around my family. I am really surprised to see how effective this simple task has been for me. I am now really positive about what I can achieve and I know WA is not another one of my many mistakes.
I have read a lot about goals and breaking them down into smaller steps, the one simple thing that I have really benefited from, is putting a real emphasis on completing the little steps to get to the bigger goals.
Well that’s just the way it’s evolved for me, so I thought I would share it with you guys, it may help someone else in their early days from jumping around the training modules, classrooms, videos, activities, chat etc. Information overload will stop you moving forward.
There has been some talk recently whether the WA ranking is important. I believe it is very important, alongside everything else we are trying to achieve. It seems sensible to me to add simple targets as part of the bigger targets, and I include my WA training and activity in my target lists.
One of my original targets was to be ranked by WA in the top 100, this was going to be a big challenge for me. I first set my target to achieve this in six months; I have since revised this target to the end of February.
Today I am currently ranked at 114 - I am on target and feeling Gooood!
Bill.

You have done very well and I thank you for this post. It's a good reminder. There is SO much information on the training site and then you read posts and get MORE information and links. It can get overwhelming. Time to take a breathe and move forward with focus. Debbi
You are so right Sui, its exciting to get stuck in and want to get there faster. But it doesn't work and we have to slow down. Thanks for your comment.

indeed you are Bill, and we can all heed your realistic, and achievable suggestions, Andy
In all this is the best that you are a keen gardener because one of proverb says: "If you want to be happy for an hour, get drunk - if you want to be happy for a day, get married – if you want to be happy for life, plant a garden." :)
Ha ha! I will remember to tell my wife this when she complains I spend too much time in the garden. :)
Thank you for your comment Terry, we learn something new everyday and grow with our experience.
Cheers Bill
Good advice! I am on day four and am steadily moving forward. It is hard to keep the blinders on - there is so much here! I force myself simply to follow the training, step by step. It works! And without knowing anything about the rankings, I have noticed I have jumped from somewhere 8000+ to 1000+. How can that be? I don't know, but it feels good. Congrats on 114!
Thanks Eileen, its not financially beneficial, but if it makes you feel good and it gives you confidence to keep moving forward, then it should be a target in my opinion.

I have an app in my phone called 'ColorNotes Notepad Notes'. I keep track and mark off my daily task (and write my WA ideas in it too). It's simple to use. Nothing too sophisticated if you like. You can find it at Google play. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing Cathy, I have not heard of this, I will have a look for the app.
Cheers

I think it is a bit like eating the elephant Bill, i.e. one bite at a time.
Yes it does seem a bit like that, its a good problem though to have too much good information.
