A typical day of learning
Since I am in the middle of Course 3 where we are being told to sign up as affiliates and add affiliate links to our posts, I went ahead and wrote a draft of a post to work on applying the information in one of the lessons.
I had already signed up for an independent affiliate program but the only link provided by this particular program was one affiliate link to the home page of their website. No banners, no specials, just the one potential link. So, I added the link into my draft post a number of places, as instructed.
Now I need relevant media
As I started to think about pictures, I realized that I had nothing from the vendor's site to add to my post. I found logos and banners for the vendor on Google but I knew I couldn't copy or use them without permission.
I wrote to the vendor, asking permission to use a banner in my post. They responded within a day and explained that all their banners were copyrighted. They also asked which one I was interested in using, however. After I showed them the specific banner, they wrote back and granted permission, giving me a "Use of Copyright Information" authorization number. That was cool!
Now I had a nice banner to use and I found a couple relevant pictures.
What in the world is a pretty link?
Then I saw something about Pretty Links in the discussion area. I had no idea what pretty links were. Well, thanks to WA's fantastic archive I was able to dig about and find several discussions about the Pretty Links Lite plugin.
With my new knowledge of how pretty links could help, I continued to research to find out how to create and insert these links.
Taxing but fun
It's fun to learn new stuff! And there is so much to learn.
All of this happened within the past couple days - during and after writing my previous post about building a foundation.
For those who read that post, I'm not going back on what I said. I still need a lot of content to make the affiliate links worthwhile. In the meantime, though, it was great to pull together a post that allowed me to learn more about the links and how affiliate programs work.
So, what's my point? Keep driving ahead. It may take some time to get where we want to go but if we enjoy the little things along the way we will feel much more fulfilled in the end.

Thank you for the post Allyn. It is encouraging. We need to remind ourselves to be determined. On a separate issue, I think you have come up with a new slogan for the HMRC and IRS: "Taxing but Fun" lol.

I am also working those lessons. I think these are the exciting lessons we are at. I just finished lesson 5. Keep going forward!

It is exciting! It gets hard when we get stuck on something and don't get to learn something new each day - kind of like what happens sometimes with a J.O.B.

The learning NEVER stops here trust me. :-) It's all exciting though.
That is one of the exciting parts of this business. It can be overwhelming but certainly never boring!
